RE: USS Hirson Distress call

Stardate: 91101.7

Deep Space Thirteen detected a distress call from the shuttle Hirson available officers responded promptly, scans detected the shuttle coming toward the station at higher than usual impulse speed, seemingly on a collision course, the USS Galatea was dispatched to intercept and stop the approaching craft with a tractor beam and determine the cause for the distress call and the ships course.

The Hirson was on an autopilot approach vector for one of the docking bays, the bay was cleared of all personal and the area sectioned off limits, several officers beamed aboard the shuttle after it has docked safely with the Galatea standing by just in case. The away team began their investigation on the shuttle, ships systems were investigated in order to bring life support back online, the body of LT Cmdr Tanzar Merrati was discovered, death from the lack of life support.

My investigation to the ships systems discovered that while attempting to bring life support back online, several other systems began coming to the foreground with errors, minor errors, but when one was fixed another took its place. While this problem could be attributed to a singularly rare system failure, the defensive nature or the errors makes me think of something more.

The system engineers of Sigma Team have been given clearance for shuttle system code search and purge, hopefully the deeper investigation will turn up the reason for the faults.
Medical have taken the body of Lt Cmdr Merrati for an autopsy.
Docking bay 2 has been isolated for the investigation period.

RE: USS Hirson Distress call update

Stardate: 91111.7

Sigma Team made a lovely discovery this morning, it turns out what we suspected was true, It's a virus.

Having had the team go over each system, we discovered there were definitely no outgoing or incoming transmission, therefore it had to be uploaded from the inside, It's purpose is fairly simple, disrupt systems, erase the data logs that would normally track its movement and finally shut off life support, turn the autopilot on and pick its destination. The distress call cutting out was likely the virus performing its first task, and not a specific target.

We will keep the shuttle locked up for the time being as we continue purging the system for a full format, and wipe away any other traces of the virus.
In the long term I see this part of the situation resolved.
