    Celes was the middle child of three. Raised in the Sorlhey Mountains, he had
    a modest upbringing where his mother ran a small planetside transportation
    company, moving small scale goods from maker to market. An interest in science
    compelled him in school, but so did service to Bajor, which drove him to join the
    Bajoran Militia. He saw moderate success in the Bajoran Militia until Bajor, once
    again, applied to join the Federation. Celes was one of several Bajoran Militia
    officers who joined Starfleet during this transition period and he has said that Bajor
    becoming a full member of the Federation was one of the proudest moments of his
    life.

    The majority of Celes family still lives on Bajor, including his mother, father and oldest
    sister who now operates the family business. His younger brother is a public servant
    for the Bajoran government and works on Deep Space Nine.

    Celes' husband, Jalu Tresh, is also a Bajoran public servant, though he is mostly retired
    and frequently lives where ever Celes is stationed. They have no children.
