After completing numerous discreet fly-bys of Nint'a and some higher risk investigation missions, we have completed our assessment of the situation involving the Pariah 'collective' of Borg. This report may be made available to any Starfleet assets interested in our findings.

Please find it attached, but I will include a summary here for your perusal, including a brief history of all encounters with Borg in the exo-solar system.

Spoiler: HISTORY OF BORG ENCOUNTERS IN PARIAHShow

  1. Argo vessels escorted a general supplies convoy to the Krikaya colony and were quite suddenly assaulted by a number of Borg vessels. As per usual, the Borg were disinterested in revealing their motives and were aggressive, thus the task force at the time reacted and destroyed all hostiles.
  2. On follow-up debris survey mission, away team encountered and dispatched a number of excessively hostile Borg drones, as well as a 'proto-queen' unit.
  3. Borg continue to be an inexplicable presence in the system, randomly assaulting convoys, but sometimes also just ignoring Federation assets, or even appearing and then vanishing again without interest.
  4. In conjunction with Task Force Omega, an assault is launched on the Borg transwarp conduit discovered a short distance away from the Pariah System. Mission parameters included permitting an Away team to board the conduit facilities to download Borg system databanks, before the conduit was destroyed by Federation forces.
  5. Post-destruction of conduit, there are no Borg sightings for months.
  6. On investigation of the missing personnel from Pariah, the semi-assimilated U.S.S. Cotopaxi shuttle's warp trail is traced back to Pariah's ninth planet, Nint'a, where a small collective of Borg are evident.

Spoiler: ANALYSISShow
The behavior of Borg located in the Pariah System has always been baffling, their purpose for being in the system being generally unclear. Early speculation suggested they might be interested in 'mineral x', but a review of their assault patterns discourages this line of logic.

At this point, our team believes the Borg's intial interest in Pariah might have actually been no different from our own; the Pariah system is an exo-solar system ejected from another galaxy and is the first of its kind to be so easily accessible to citizens of the Milky Way.

The simple novelty of the system's existence may have been what drove the Borg's investigation, perhaps in search of useful technology or inhabitants for their own purposes.

We assumed we had destroyed all of the Borg located in the system with the assault on the conduit, which now proves to be a poor assumption. However in the interim, it appears that the Pariah Collective has suffered extensive damage and deterioration. At this point, our leading hypothesis is that this is a result of the polaric radiation exuded by Pariah's sun, which has a corrosive effect on many technologies.

Thus the Borg have attempted to recoup as far as possible from the central star, but lack the resources to complete repairs on themselves at a rate faster than the decay occurs.

Currently they hold a small complement of ships, all spheres and probes otherwise, in orbit of Nint'a. There is a smaller 'colony' of drones on the planet itself, which has no M-friendly atmosphere. Our best estimate is that they number in the three or four hundreds and likely dropping by the day.

CONCLUSION

We have read the reports submitted by the U.S.S. Asura's crew on their recovery efforts of the Borg drones they recovered. Despite their tenable success, it is the opinion of this survey team that the recovery of individuals from the remaining Pariah Collective is unlikely at best, due to their extended time in a deteriorating Collective state.

The vessels and remaining colony members seem unlikely to survive at the current rate of decay.
