Approval of Court Martial Proceedings (Related to Terix II Incident)

RE Hearing and Court Martial

38th JAG Department and Captains,

Based on the incident at Terix II, I want to push forward with a judicial court Martial hearings for CAPT Alexander Savage, CAPT Emery Quint, and CAPT Lauren Varley for Article 29: Failure to Obey a Direct Order or Regulation. Starfleet Command has waved their jurisdiction to hold the trial at Starfleet Command level and have given the Fleet jurisdiction to do so.

I have reviewed the inquiry information and have decided not to convene charges against Commander North.

I'm looking for a schedule of this hearing to include appointed Defense and Prosecution officers.

JAG Department, request the support of a Judge officer from sector command, they will likely press Captain Veck, again. I’m fine with that, but its not a requirement. Also coordinate for a witness testimony list. I want you to ask necessary parties and then compile the list before the trial.

Captian Perim and Commander Helstone, make sure accommodations are made on the starbase to hold the hearings, as well as guest quarters as necessary. I am leaving restrictions of said officers to their respective immediate supervisors.

Commander Dantes, be prepared for legal inquiries from outside of the fleet chain of command. Ensure that we are only giving them formal responses.

If you have questions about this. Please contact me.

Respectfully,
Rilem Celes

Hello, Argo. Yes, it's court martial time. ::cue Spanish Flea:: (this is all your fault, Tilly)

As this is a high profile case with a lot of ethical meat to dig into, we will be presenting it as a multi-day hearing, for maximum drawn out anticipation, suspense, and opportunity to get your two cents in through RP.

It is worth pointing out that we have three Captains who are on trial. Combine this with the number of roles that are necessary in just making the trial run and we are already at six different players. While we will do our absolute best and utmost to schedule for everyone's convenience, please understand that we may sometimes need to push forward without seemingly key participants in order to keep to a sane timeline for these proceedings.

We are definitely hoping to select from volunteers to play prosecution (x1) and defense (x1) roles. If more than one person is interested per role, we will designate a primary (for scheduling purposes) and backups (to make it if possible). If you are interested in the judiciary role (x1), please talk to Katriel.

Here's the itinerary so you can get an idea of what is entailed in each role.

DAY 1

  • PROSECUTOR'S opening statement (5m or less, you are encouraged to pretype)
  • DEFENDER'S opening statement (5m or less, you are encouraged to pretype)
  • PROSECUTION'S case: present arguments, call for testimonials, etc. The defense and judiciary representatives will be provided opportunities to cross-examine as necessary. (50m or less)

DAY 2

  • DEFENSE'S case: present arguments, call for testimonials, etc. The prosecution and judiciary representatives will be provided opportunities to cross-examine as necessary. (50m or less)
  • PROSECUTOR'S closing statement (5m or less, you are encouraged to pretype)
  • DEFENDER'S closing statement (5m or less, you are encouraged to pretype)
  • Recess (20m)
  • Judge's pronouncement

As a reminder, in this particular case, the PROSECUTION'S role will be to generally try and prove that Quint, Savage, and Varley exercised poor judgement in choosing to ignore their orders while the DEFENSE'S role is going to demonstrate that the orders themselves were inappropriate and contradictory to Starfleet values and therefore not worth following.

We don't care if your character doesn't have JAG experience! That's certainly a bonus, but since this is a role-play environment that tries to balance fun vs reality, we want your characters to get this opportunity to develop through acting as the defense or prosecution. So if you think your character has got what it takes, please volunteer!

Finally, I'm expecting the timeline for this to start in around two weeks, so people have time to gather testimonials.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss logistics of the court martial, but inquiries in volunteering for roles should be directed to Katriel, either in-game or through enjin mail.
