AAR: Examination of Listening Post 112 wreckage, Boreth Sector (Upon Rough Seas I)

ALLCON,

Met up with Lieutenant Gar Van of Starfleet Intelligence, with Ensign Brecken, aboard DS13 before departure. Lieutenant Gar briefed us about Listening Post 112 that had stopped checking in. Located near Klingon space in the Boreth Sector, chances were pretty good that it had been destroyed, so we were ordered to go have a look.

On arrival in the system, we found the listening post right where it should be, but it was pretty severely decimated, without any clear open spaces to beam into. The three of us suited up to EVA, utilizing propulsion packs to maneuver to the wreck and search the debris. We recovered and tagged six dead crew members for transport, then managed to access the only remaining console and its data.

Notable was the final data recorded by the listening post's omni-directional antennae, before everything failed. I've attached the log, but the station's destruction seemed to be preceded by some sort of extremely powerful signal that covered nearly the entire bandwidth of the antennae's receiving range, with an origin bearing of 194 mark 22.

Backtracing the signal's trajectory indicated that the closest system was the uncharted RG-691. As it was on the way, we opted to perform a quick system survey to see if we could locate the source of the signal. And we found it on RG-691c, a class N sulfuric planet. Sensors seemed to indicate the remains of a civilization on the surface, surprising considering the toxic atmo.

Unfortunately we weren't able to conduct an actual exploration of the signal source, as our EV suits wouldn't withstand the acidic atmo, so Lieutenant Gar called it until we can requisition some extra protective gear for the trip. We finished the system survey and left monitoring satellites in orbit of each planet before setting a return course for DS13.
