AAR: Retrieval of the USS Halcyon

Stardate: 91506.2Retrieval of the USS HalcyonSubmitted: LT Corerra

A summary of the events leading up to the recovery of the USS Halcyon, designated MIA over 140 years ago, in the year 2269.

As part of the exploration initiative, the USS Asimov with USS Brooklyn as escort were sent to investigate point of interest location D-1671 in the Doza Sector. Initial probe data had determined the existence of a dark nebula, but what made it interesting was the detection of materials that the probe had determined to be anomalous for this sort of astronomical body.

Upon arrival at the nebula, both vessels halted on the fringes to conduct scans. Due to nebula radiation levels and general stardust density, scanners had trouble returning refined locations and information, but eventually officers were able to get readouts of materials detected within the nebula. Among the anomalous materials were the following subset list:

  • Ditanium
  • Duranium
  • Mercassium
  • Rodinium
  • Terminium
  • Tri-magnesite
  • Trillium

Officers on the Asimov decided to attempt to beam out a sample of the nebula to study and focused their attention on a high-density location of duranium and rodinium. The results were a bit startling as they beamed aboard a cleanly-cut chunk of metal. Speculation turned to wondering if it was part of some ship debris, which the ships decided to investigate by navigating towards the center of the nebula.

Eventually, due to the Asimov's proximity sensors having difficulty detecting anything very far out from the ship, it flew into some debris that impacted the hull, though not for any damage. At this distance, sensors were able to pick out the outline of ship wreckage. Dating the hull's construction materials placed it somewhere in the 23rd century, while comparisons of parts to blueprint schematics indicated that it was likely a Pioneer class vessel.

Officers from the Brooklyn suited up and transported to the wrecked bridge, in order to attempt to salvage the ship's logs. Though the computer core was caught fast in its container, the away team was able to strongarm it out successfully. Another away team member located the vessel's dedication plaque in the debris, identifying it as the U.S.S. Halcyon.

Analysis of the Halcyon's hull indicated that it would withstand towing at warp, so the entire vessel was towed back to DS13.

As for the ship's logs, it is estimated that it will take considerable time for a mixed intelligence/engineering team to decrypt and reconstruct the events of the Halcyon's last days. We look forward to seeing what is discovered.
