Jhitel was born in 2380 on the moon of Andoria, from four purely Aenar parents. She spent her formative years only in Aenar society, below the Issa Wastes in the vast underground civilization of her people. The only child of the shelthreth between her parents, Jhitel was a particularly dutiful and studious child, using her time to study alien civilizations and physiology.
Her curiosity eventually led her to visit Andorian settlements, where she would often spend large swathes of time beyond her schooling learning alien cultures first hand.
As a young woman, upon reaching adulthood, Jhitel began practicing an amateur medical profession in an Andorian colony. Though she had no official training, she used her telepathic skills and years of amateur study to work alongside a more professionally trained Andorian doctor named Shmin ch'Loran.
At the age of 22 Jhitel joined in shelthreth with three Andorians, her close friend Lisana the zhen in the relationship - the mating produced two offspring, each female carrying the Andorian traits of their fathers and Jhitel's Aenar traits. Two children born to a bondgroup being a cause for celebration, Jhitel joined Lisana to raise her daughters for the next two years. She encouraged her bondmates to reject traditional Andorian society, trying to encourage them to approach more peaceful ways of life - there was deep concern within Jhitel that her children might be exposed to more strong and aggressive emotions than were necessary, and the effect it may have on their developing telepathy.
During this lapse in practice, Jhitel placed her application with Starfleet Academy with the assistance of local Federation officers she had assisted in treating. Not long after her daughters' second birthdays the Aenar left Andoria for Earth, joining Starfleet at the age of 24.
Her time in the Academy was difficult, due to her very sensitive Aenar telepathy. An incident occurred in Academy that almost resulted in Jhitel's expulsion involving telepathy and rage issues that nearly resulted in the injury of two students. Due to this incident, he used much of her free time spending time in mental training with other Aenar and Betazed candidates and teachers - though her training as an Aenar forbade telepathy without permission, it was a skill that Jhitel would use unintentionally at times due to her extended time among Andorians.

2405 - Official reprimand for telepathic abuse. Jhitel sh'Zarath assigned telepathic-control lessons on threat of expulsion. No injuries reported from this incident.
