Uncolonized M-Class World

Synopsis & History

Located within the Doza sector, Denovora is relatively arid for an M-Class planet, but is otherwise within the norm. Denovora was discovered and named by a Tellarite merchant vessel that made a brief stop in the system in order to make repairs. It has two large continents, both containing an impressive variety of flora. Large swaths of the mostly temperate northern continent consist of plains, making it an excellent site for a colony. Despite its diversity of plant life, it seems to have very little in the way of terrestrial animal life. Trace pollutants discovered in the atmosphere indicate a possibility that the planet was once inhabited, but no other evidence of a population of any size could be located, meaning there's likely an alternative explanation regarding the presence of the trace particles. Recently, Starfleet dispatched a survey team to the planet, in order to examine its suitability for colonization. Scans taken by the original survey vessel, the U.S.S. Robau, indicate the planet's crust possesses an unusually high calcium carbonate content.

Following the infection of two survey team members with a parasite capable of temporarily assuming control of their host body, Starfleet has placed a level five quarantine on Denovora.

In the following investigation, a second survey team discovered that much of the planet's vast calcium carbonate veins were, a single gestalt organism calling itself 'Ophidaat Adan', or, as it translated, 'The Congress of Earthbone". By its account, it had once shared the planet with what it called, 'the first vessels', large nonsentient animalia it used as host bodies to explore its own world, and beyond. As it tells it, it gave refuge to Iconians during the original war that drove them from this galaxy, resulting in their enemies deploying some sort of weapon that destroyed much of the planet's surface.

As of Stardate 94577.4, the Denovora entity is confirmed deceased, having passed away due to structural decay and old age. As per a bargain struck by the diplomatic team sent to Denovora, a sapling provided by the creature has been put in stasis until a suitable planet for seeding can be found; no easy task, given the sapling's very specific requirements for survival. A small, prefabricated Starfleet research base has been established on the surface of Denovora; its small compliment continues to study the now-deceased organism, maintain watch over its 'frozen' sapling, and coordinate efforts to determine and potentially either revitalize Denovora or terraform a new home planet for the sapling.

The planet remains under quarantine. Access to research base must be approved by order of Starfleet Command.
