AAR - Waydis II

Stardate: 92963.6Waydis II Applied Science SurveyReport Submitted: CAPT Konieczko, D.Classification Level 1 - Open

On Stardate 92963.1 a taskforce consisting of the U.S.S. Asimov, Vanguard, Rutledge and Ananke escorted the U.S.S. Sirocco to the Waydi system to perform additional surveys to consider Waydi II for terraformation.

Upon arriving in the system, two away teams were sent to survey Waydis I and Waydis II. Several weather events were encountered by the away teams but they never were in any sort of harm.

With further investigation several small and large shards of egg shells were discovered on Waydis II. We beamed a fragment to the Sirocco to evaluate as well contacted the Waydi people to see if they had any information on this. The Waydi gave us information on an organism they called the 'Roechalcagh'. Find the information they provided attached.

This finding caused a decent amount of discussion. Namely if these creatures come back to the planet post terraforming, and if they would present harm to the colony and it's populace.

I believe that further study will need to be done, though I currently lean towards proceeding with terraforming Waydis II. The possibility of creating an issue with these organisms is vastly overpowered in my mind by the assured eradication of the Waydi people.

SUBJECT: Waydis II

During the expedition into the Waydis System, I was tasked with participating to a ground reconnaissance on the southern emisphere of Waydis II, together with CMDR M. A. Pohl and CMDR C. Jarnefelt. During the reconnaissance, we have been able to locate for the first time the eggshells ot the creatures known to the Waydis as "Roechalcagh", and to perform first analysis on them.
Although we haven't been able to find many useful informations, I found this discovery astounding.
I also dispatched many away teams, mainly composed by xenobiologists, from the Ananke to the surrounding regions, in order to analize as much as possible the flora and fauna of the emisphere. Their reports (which it's possible to find attached to this report) confirm what we already knew on the planet and these breeding grounds, although, under request of the Xenobiology Section of the Ananke, I ordered them to perform further analysis on the data at our disposal, in the hope of finding something more.

Recommendations:
Although I understand the concerns of both Starfleet and the Waydis government, it is my opinion, supported also by what Cmdr Pohl expressed during our debriefing, that it is impossible to proceed to the terraformation process of Waydis II without further study.
In this respect, I would like to propose to this Command to send a vessel to study more closely the habits and behavior of these fascinating cosmozoans: it is clear that the informations provided us by the Waydis are incomplete at best, and it would be imprudent and dangerous to take any further decision about terraformation without a more sound body of knowledge about them, both for the safety of the Waydis colonists and these creatures.

Note:
The whole credit for the discovery goes to Cmdr Pohl and Cmdr Jarnefelt, who did their best to find as much as possible during our brief stay on the surface.
