AAR: Exploration of POI K 1599

Stardate: 93191Exploration of POI K 1599Report Submitted: CAPT Bishop, SLevel 1: Open

POI K 1599 was identified with having a solar system and a nebula. The Endeavour's mission, along with a handful of officers, was to ascertain if there were any life forms on either of the M Class planets identified.

As we arrived in the solar system, we encountered a strange, artificial transmission from a satellite orbiting the fourth planet in the system. Moving closer, we tried to decipher the transmission which was on a repeating loop. However, since the language did not match any in the database, all we managed to translate was the following message:

"Learn hlen diaderi. Those who johi azedi quyura mobol know peace."

Since that message was unintelligible, I instructed Captains VanDeer and Timoreev to further scan the satellite in an attempt to access any data and linguistic records that might be stored in the files. When they came up empty-handed, we transported the satellite into the docking bay to begin metallurgical analysis to indentify the creators of the satellite. Meanwhile, Captain Nimitz, Chief Petty Officer Thyzee and I turned our attention to the planet.

Scans revealed that the satellite was orbiting man-made structures, though further, more detail analysis revealed that these were in fact, ruins and scans for life signs came up negative. Scans of the atmosphere revealed that this planet had high concentrations of neutron radiation, possibly as a result of a thermo-nucleic war.

This left us with two theories, one being that the civilisation had been involved in an internal conflict, akin to Earth's conflict in the 21st century, albeit, more total. However, both Captain Timoreev and I could not shake off the feeling that a civilisation, which was as advanced as ours, would wipe itself out completely. Our theory was that this could have possibly been the result of an external aggressor. In investigation, we scanned the fifth planet which revealed that the planet was mostly water and had no sentient life.

Whilst this gave weight to the self-destruction theory, Timoreev and I were not convinced. We magnified into the location of the ruins in hope that the buildings could give us an indication of what had transpired. Though it was hard to pick out, I noticed that the ruins had to have been created by an explosion far away and the blast patterns were consistant with those of antimatter weapons. However, since this did not tell us much, I decided that we had to try and send an away team to the surface to try and gather more information. Captains Nimitz and Timoreev joined me and we beamed to the surface in our EV suits, after gaving Captain VanDeer the con. Just before we left, my science and engineering teams working on the satellite in the docking bay gave news of more text found on the surface of the satellite. They had placed this in the computer's database and the ship had come up with a more total translation of the transmission as follows:

"Learn hlen Diaderi. Those who oppose Azedi quyura never know peace."

As we investigated the surface, Captain VanDeer and CPO Thyzee ran searches of the name "Azedi" in the ship's computers but there was no record of this race.

On the surface, we quickly tried to find any text or source that could indicate what might have happened on the surface but all we could locate were normal civilian communications. Unfortunately, before we could explore further, the radiation levels became too high and we had to be transported back on board the Endeavour.

Our efforts seemed to have shed little light on who caused the destruction of these people but through the lack of survivors (although this evidence is shaky as the event happened no less than fifty years ago, within the last century), coupled with the ominous warning satellite that seems to warn people not to cross this "Azedi" civilisation, leads me to believe that perhaps this was an external attack. However, with no concrete proof, all this is speculation.

Launching a warning buoy to replace the satellite, we turned and headed back to DS13.

This exploration, whilst informative, has left more questions than answers and the planet will need to be fully surveyed in order to understand what happened fifty years ago. I have attached suggested modifications to the EV suits in order to compensate for the radiation if we were to send another party down to the surface.

Furthermore, I recommend that further exploration into the Doza, Alpha 7190 and 7192 sectors, be proceeded with caution; we could be trespassing into Azedi territory and we would rather have First Contact on peaceful rather than misunderstood terms.

The satellite remains in the Endeavour's docking bay at this present time.

Stardate: 93193.8Exploration of POI K 1599Addendum Submitted: CAPT A. A. TimoreevLevel 1: Open

During the away mission on the fourth planet of POI K 1599, it wasn't possible to identify any plausible governmental building. It is possible that any trace of government was destroyed during the attacks, and that those were at all effects surgical strikes.
However, among the ruins it has been possible to locate a school (or a similar educational facility), from where different documents were collected and beamed on board the Endeavour.
I suggest to proceed with a thourough analysis of these documents and the ruins, possibly through another away mission on the planet. The identification of governmental buildings, or the collection of historical documents, could provide us with precious insights about the development of this civilization and, possibly, about its fate.
