On Stardate 93318.4 the U.S.S. Vanguard returned to Echomet at the request of the Federation's Diplomatic Corps.Our task was in regards to Echomet's pending application for membership to the Federation. In transit we received a holocall from Ambassador Yerely of the Diplomatic Corps. She gave a very short briefing of the situation and what we should attempt to do and not do while on planet.
Our team was instructed to deliver the news that Echomet's application was being conditionally accepted pending the repeal of several of their laws that imposed restrictions on the Irreo populace, their inability to hold political office being the most prominent.
After arriving in orbit we had fifteen minutes to discuss among ourselves an issues, concerns or plans for the meeting with Prime Minister Rieskl. The time was used wisely to decide how to approach the knowledge of DS13 and Commander Sivath's technological solutions to the Irreo's disability. Just as we finished our meeting on the Vanguard we got word that the Prime Minister was prepared to meet us at the Echomet World Union office.
We were shown to a conference room and soon after were introduced to Rieskl. The Prime Minister wore his emotions on his sleeve and went through a range of them upon being told of the conditional acceptance and conditions thereof. We explained that the current policies on Echomet do not align with the Federation's views.
The talks continued at length with the Prime Minister supporting their current laws and our away team defending the reasoning for the repeal. He took some time in thought, and we reminded him that the decision did not need to be made without consultation. Rieskl and our team parted ways with the Prime Minister intending to talk with the planet's congress and his own advisers and returning word to the Diplomatic Corps in the near future.
