AAR - New Circini - 'A Delicious Acquisition' Incident

Stardate: 93409.5New Circini - 'A Delicious Acquisition' IncidentReport Submitted: CMDR ThiessenLevel 2: Confidential

While attending the New Circini Charter Festival it came to be known that in the Bazaar, the ship listed as 'A Delicious Acquisition' had been offering free samples of deviled eggs to all that passed. I happened to purchase a copy of the cookbook wherein the recipe is contained from their shop.

While preparing a meal I utilized the book, the recipe called for 'Echomet eggs'. While the Echomet talks were going on I had read in their file that the Echometa reproduced via egg laying methods. This concerned me - it shouldn't have because it was a far shot - but it did. With this on my mind I returned to 'A Delicious Acquisition' the following morning to purchase the remnants of their remaining leftover eggs.

Admiral Perim assisted me in contacting Captain Draz to run a full series of genetic panels on the sampled eggs. Captain Draz was able to confirm that unfortunately, the specimens were Echometan in origin, but specifically the eggs sampled were all those of the Irreo mutation.

Utilizing this information, Captain Desimone left on orders from Admiral Perim to handle the situation and Captain Draz was brought in to assist, given her assistance. It is my understanding via these officers the Governor of New Circini was contacted and investigators arrived to the shop. We were assured that if assistance is required further, they will let Starfleet know.

I was able to obtain the Ferengi's supplier contact information, which I will send directly to higher command and not attach to this file.

This presents a unique situation because while this is a situation wherein we must be guided by the Prime Directive, our officers have also been subjected to a unique trauma in consuming the fertilized eggs of a sentient species we have dealt with. The psychological impact this could have on all officers affected probably shouldn't be discounted and investigation should be taken, in my opinion, to determine if we can act on that trauma as a crime itself to aid in working out the supplier and what we can do legally.

Also, the status of these eggs as only Irreo has me deeply concerned. Reviewing their files in our system the Irreo eggs can be determined from the normal Echometan eggs shortly after being laid. This may be a leap and I am aware of it, but in all candor a leap of faith and a gut instinct are what caused me to investigate this situation. We must consider that whoever is supplying these eggs may be attempting to remove this subspecies from Echometan society.

Remaining samples of the eggs have been provided to the Science laboratory on DS13.
