Tzenkethi Behind Protomatter Attacks; Alliance Mobilizing to Defend Threatened Systems
This weekend, a protomatter detonation which wiped out the primitive inhabitants of Draconis III was reported as a mystery. Sources within Starfleet Command have now confirmed that this detonation was a deliberate attack by the Tzenkethi Coalition. In the days since this discovery, several other detonations have been detected in the Ferenginar Sector, and both Starfleet and the KDF have sent vessels to investigate.
The I.K.S. Kor and U.S.S. Chimera joined the Lukari vessel L.S.S. Reskava in the Mivic System, at the site of a recent battle. In addition to debris from over fifty native ships, the Alliance task force discovered that this planet too had been rendered uninhabited by a Tzenkethi Protomatter Bomb. A small group of survivors from a species called the Povini were recovered from a disabled civilian vessel. They provided an eyewitness account of the Tzenkethi attack, which appears to have been sudden and unprovoked.
Only a few short hours later another protomatter detonation was detected, and the Kor, Chimera, and Aventine responded to the Jod'Cor System. They arrived to find a Tzenkethi battlegroup in orbit and Tzenkethi lifesigns on a pre-industrial world. The Tzenkethi attacked the Alliance task force, but were defeated and repelled from the system. Reports from the planet's surface indicate the the Tzenkethi were attempting to detonate a Protomatter Bomb in a cavern of crystals, similar to the one found on Draconis III. At present, it is not clear what these crystals are, or why they're being targeted by the Tzenkethi.
In response to these events and Tzenkethi fleet movements, both Starfleet and the KDF are mobilizing units into defensive positions. Starfleet has repositioned elements of the ninth and sixteenth fleets, and placed the eleventh and thirty-eighth on standby. The KDF fourth fleet has been deployed to the Tzenkethi border and several Federation-border strike groups have been reorganized to reinforce KDF task forces based out of Defera and the Zenas Expanse. The Allied defense effort is being coordinated by KDF General Rodek.
