NARRATIVE: On 93821.9 a pre-mission briefing was held with the above mentioned personnel, given by myself, to go over the mission parameters and goals. This was followed by a short question and answer session before the team departed DS13 to board the USS Saraswati, under the command of Captain Draz.
Once in the Yuhop system, scans commenced to locate any signs of wormhole presence. These scans were carried out primarily by Commander Al Firawn, and eventually yielded a wealth of new information, not only of the existence of the Yuhop wormhole terminus, but also its nature and schedule of naturally occurring activity. These discoveries essentially verify previous information provided to members of the 2492 Diplomatic Task Force by Ambassador Altais.
Captain Draz contacted the local Yuhop government officials to alert them to our presence in the system, and gave them a general idea of our purpose, while still respecting the spirit of General Order 1. This dialogue confirmed that the Yuhop were already aware of the wormhole, which they refer to as the Nekark. It also informed us that the Yuhop had no real knowledge of its nature or how to use the wormhole for reliable travel. I would speculate that this terminus might shed light on the far-flung and previously unexplainable locales where Yuhop craft have been found, and the velocity of those craft, beyond technological limitations.
We witnessed a naturally occurring opening of the Yuhop wormhole terminus, and send a probe through it to gather data on its structure, nature and exit point. This first probe exited at the previously discovered stable terminus closest to DS13, which has been labeled as Wormhole Terminus #2. Not long afterwards, the terminus closed again. It was discovered that the actual terminus was still present, but would have to be forced open artificially with the use of a magneton pulse. This option was allowed, and was successful at opening the terminus again. A second probe was sent through and emerged within two light years distance of Wormhole Terminus #2, closer to Wormhole Terminus #1, if only just barely. Further scans detected that the Yuhop wormhole terminus opens naturally at a rate of once per twelve hour period. It should be noted that communications with the Yuhop were not possible, using their technology, while the wormhole terminus was active.
It should also be noted that while unstable exit terminuses can be reached by forcing the Yuhop wormhole terminus open with a magneton pulse, any reasonable understanding of where those terminuses might lead is, as of yet, undetermined.
Meanwhile, Subcommander Aivala was tasked with monitoring and investigating the local Yuhop data mainframe, discreetly, for any information related to our larger investigation into 2492, the potential wormhole system, and information previously recovered from the Kilur kiosk database. She managed to uncover a trade agreement between the Yuhop and Itrin governments. I believe this to be noteworthy, and suggest that assets be assigned to investigate any Itrin connection.
Also of note was Cadet Mitsuki's discovery that the Yuhop wormhole terminus is in geostationary orbit of Yuhop III (Atenalp), along the equatorial region. It is an uninhabited area consisting mostly of ocean and islands. Potentially an area where monitoring equipment could be placed with relative assurance that it would not contaminate the pre-warp Yuhop culture.
After verification and study of the Yuhop wormhole terminus, Captain Draz contacted the Yuhop officials to announce the conclusion of our studies, and offer farewell messages. We then left the system and returned to DS13.
During the mission, I suggested to the Captain that the probes should be recovered for data collection purposes. On the way home, I used my authority as co-mission commander, after consultation with Commander d'Everux, to instead leave those probes in their current locations, so they might continue to collect data on Wormhole Terminus #2. It is my hypothesis that timing the far side terminus activity might allow us to determine the number of potential exit points. We've already mapped two naturally occurring and seemingly stable terminuses prior to this mission.
It could be possible that we've discovered a hub of sorts in a larger network of wormholes, in the Yuhop system. This will require further investigation to verify. Commander Al Firawn will be tasked with continued observation of our two probes, and will update Commander d'Evreux and myself when Wormhole Terminus #2 goes active again. And a supplemental will be added to this report if needed.
I would like to commend the security, tactical and MACO personnel tasked with seeing to the safety of this mission. While this survey ended up being largely uneventful, outside of the scientific boon, it was good to know that we had protection should it have gone another way.
RECOMMENDATION: Further study of known stable wormhole terminuses in the region. Investigation of any potential Itrin connection with this possible wormhole network. Coordination with other Diplomatic Task Force teams, using this new information to assist in the larger efforts of the think-tank.
OOC: Kermit ran this, Yo! But... If you are interested in getting involved with this part of the puzzle, you can ICly take Tilly aside and ask how you can be involved.
