NARRATIVE: The S.S. Kantan hailed the U.S.S. William Ockham and requested to back up data with the ship, wishing to send a data packet containing research information. The request was approved, however, the data was thoroughly scanned as it was received. As the information was examined in more detail, it was determined that there was a message embedded in the code for the Ockham. It was a request for help, a distress signal. The Ockham immediately changed course to intercept and was greeted by the Captain with cheerful demeanor and an insistence that nothing was wrong.

This was when an alarm sounded. Between the research data they'd sent us, and minimal explanation from the Captain, we were able to determine that they had been conducting independent and unauthorized research into a singularity drive. It had, unfortunately, started to collapse. The resulting gravimetric forces had not only created strong pulls from their ship to ours, forcing us to constantly fight to maintain distance, but also caused critical damage to the majority of their escape pods. Our scans (and theirs) determined that an implosion was inevitable and that evacuation must begin.

There was a serious detriment, however. The Ockham is an Intrepid-class, whereas the Kantan was a Nebula-class. The difference in personnel capacity was enormous. Although time was spared to try and come up with solutions, the majority of our efforts were spent in maximizing transporter efficiency and organizing evacuation protocols.

In the end, five hundred thirty seven members of the Kantan's crew were saved out of the seven hundred fifty complement. We mourn their losses and offer our sympathies to their families and loved ones.

RECOMMENDATION: The Ockham cannot indefinitely hold such a large number of people. It is the recommendation of the Commanding officer that we move the survivors to Deep Space 13, provide them with immediate trauma and grief counseling and get them transports back to their homes.

OOC: This was a mission run by the Ockham crew. I'd like to mention my co-author, Quint, since he helped with this story. If I have misrepresented, misspelled or otherwise mistaken something, please feel free to contact me for corrections.
