MISSION: Response to the distress call from the Icarus saying that they had Captain Bishop.

OUTCOME: Destruction of the Goo Taskforce that ambushed our task force, and the rescue of Captain Bishop.

KEY PERSONNEL:
Captain Fiona Skye (USS MacAlpine)
Captain Keelah Se'Lai (USS Valley Forge)
Captain Andrej Timoreev (USS Attar)
Commander Chance Wilson (USS Fearless)
Commander Alfred (USS Endeavour)
Commander Thalszhyl'ia Zh’Zhavis
Lieutenant Commander Keri Verlin
Lieutenant Commander Sulayman al Firawn
Lieutenant Commander Jung Eunbi
Lieutenant Commander Keliaya

NARRATIVE: During the service to the late Lieutenant Junior Grade Kopa, the vessels USS Valley Forge, MacAlpine, Attar and Fearless received a distress call from a ship identifying it is self as the Icarus. In the distress call, they stated that they had Captain Bishop and wanted to hand him over to us at the location they provided.

Feeling that this could be a trap the task force moved to yellow alert before entering warp to the location provided. Once we arrived in the system, the Icarus attempted to hail the USS Valley Forge. Once they did so, they beamed both Captain Se'Lai and Commander Zh’Zhavis off the Valley Forge leaving Lieutenant Commander Jung Eunbi acting Captain of the Valley Forge while my self, Captain Skye, and Captain Timoreev coordinated with our respective commands.

It was at this moment when sensors detected an initial eight (8) vessels warping into the system to engage us followed by a further eight (8) reinforcements.

The USS Valley Forge laid in a pursuit course of the Icarus while the USS MacAlpine, USS Attar, and USS Fearless engaged the Goo fleet in an attempt to let the Valley Forge break through the encirclement. It was at this point that an all-out engagement was met between our task forces. During this engagement, the USS Endeavour arrived moments after their reinforcements arrived giving it the element of surprise.
During the battle, the Valley Forge was able to break the encirclement with the fire of the MacAlpine blasting a hole through one of the hostile ships.

Once we had defeated the Task Force, and with the work of LCDR Verlin and LCDR al Firawn, we were able to board the Icarus and rescue not Only Captain Se'Lai, and Commander Zh’Zhavis but we were also able to recover Captain Bishop.

However, during this task force action, we received multiple losses and damage to the task force, with numerous lives lost.
As of this report being created :
Numerous injured.
KIA - 210
MIA - Currently Unkown, estimate >= 300
USS Fearless - Lost in Action

I am sure more in-depth analysis of and reports from each command will be on the way.

RECOMMENDATION: Maintain medical surveillance of all taken hostage, as we are still unaware of the capabilities of the Goo based life forms.

NARRATIVE: During the service to the late Lieutenant Junior Grade Kopa, which I was attending via holo comm we received distress call from a ship identifying it isself as the Icarus. It was stated that they had Captain Samuel Bishop, and wished to returned him at the coordinates that they sent along with the transmission. Fearless, Valley Forge, Attar, and MacAlpine all responded to the area. The flag vessel, the Valley Forge advised all ships to yellow alert which we followed.

The flagship, hailed the Icarus and promptly both the captain and first officer where beamed out, I order red alert and had weapons and shields powered up. It was at this moment when sensors detected an initial eight (8) vessels warping into the system to engage us followed by a further eight (8) reinforcements. With this force the task force engaged the enemy. Each ship takeing on two vessel each. Fearless ended up fighting a cruiser sized vessel and a battleship sized vessel. While we were engaged, the Valley Forge went in pursuit of the Icarus.

Fearless engaged the cruiser first, we used all of our weapons and both out runabout. During the engagement we we able to successfully destroy the ship after using 36% of out stock of quantum torpedoes, with the help of our phasers. Fearless took minimal damage in this engagement. After the cruiser was destroyed, we moved onto the battleship, which was massive compared to the size of Fearless, easily the size of a Jupiter class carrier. As the rest of the fleet was engaged in their own battle, Fearless engaged alone, using all of our remaining quantum torpedoes and burning out three of our phaser arrays during the battle. Fearless was hit multiple times causing medium to high damage all over the ship, luck for us we destroyed the battleship with a well placed photon torpedo to its engine section causing it to explode. Unluckily we had been hit in the port nacelle (Which I will note had been hit more than once this month) which caused us to lose warp drive, and a further hit took out most of comms ability's.

Sadly this wasnt it for us as yet another battleship engaged us. Seeing that all ships where still engaged, and that we had no way to run I took Fearless into her final battle. The battleship hit us a total of 12 times causing major damage throughout the ship. For our part we dealt what we got, expanding all of our torpedos and burning out six more of our phaser arrays. However Fearless's death knell was called when a tetryon torpedo shredded the starboard nacelle, causing the warp core to start a melt down we couldn't stop.

Since there was nothing more we could do to save the ship, I ordered the crew to escape pods. To which all but myself and my first officer went too. Me and Commander Jenkins set the ship on collision course with the Sacred Band Battleship and only left when we were sure that the ship would hit. After abandoning ship the escape pods formed up into "gaggle" mod and made for the nearest starship. By this point most of the Sacred Band fleet was destroyed or dieing. At this point we were picked up by the Valley Forge. Were it was learned that all the missing personnel, Bishop included had been recovered.

Of the Fearless crew of 360, we had 173 wounded and 28 killed in action (With two animals lost).

RECOMMENDATION: First off every single crew member deserves a medal for their outstanding actions during the battle, from the engineers who fought to keep the ship together, the the doctors and nurses who fought to keep us together to my bridge crew who carried out my orders. I cant thank them enough for their service and I hope you people high up will recognize that.

However, the 28 we lost deserve the most praise as they gave their absolute all, if possible I'd like to award each the Starfleet Silver Star, for bravery under fire of the most gallant.

NARRATIVE: Whilst conducting memorial service for our recently lost LTJG Kopa, the Valley Forge received communication from from a vessel [of unknown origin] which simply identified itself as 'Icarus'. The communication also stated that they had custody of Captain Bishop and wished to return to him. Given experience with previous 'Sacred Band' encounters, this was presumed to be a deception though we felt we would be remiss in our duties and responsibilities if we did not at least investigate - both for the mention of a known missing Starfleet officer, but also for the fact that the Icarus claimed to be in need of aid. It was at this time that Captain Skye expressed concerns about my own personal connection with Captain Bishop and potential for emotional compromise; to which my sincerest assurances were presented that I would most willingly defer to my impartial XO should any doubt be raised of my decisions upon arrival. This was further enforced by a reminder that I would take no action to guide the conduct of anyone else's ship, since the Valley Forge was serving as flag due to the existing presence of all senior staff.

Upon arrival at the given coordinates, we found the Icarus - a behemoth all black vessel of previously unseen configuration, estimated several km in length - to be in a low, decaying orbit around a red giant. Our arrival prompted a direct communication from the Icarus which - presumably in answering - allowed them to promptly transport myself and Commander Zh’Zhavis off our bridge through the presumed use of some advanced technology which was impervious to our shielding.

From herein, I can only provide testament to events as witnessed by myself and Commander Zh’Zhavis, deferring to the other CO's present for an accounting of concurrent events on board our vessels. We materialized on board what we assumed to be the Icarus - the interior presented as an all but pitch black interior of a Starfleet vessel. Relying on a joint effort between the Commander's telepathic perception and my own heightened visual and audio sense, we proceeded with extreme caution in an attempt to gauge our surroundings and find a means of escape. My suspicion that we were not intended to be prisoners [based on the observation that we were not only given free range of movement within the Icarus, but presented with relatively familiar surroundings] was soon confirmed as we were presented with an image of Captain Bishop, whilst receiving telepathic communication from an unknown source - though the context implied it was the voice of those controlling the Icarus.

Throughout our search, the unseen lifeform/s continued to commune with us through images of those familiar to us; with each interaction yielding further insight as to their intent. When first presenting to us through the face of Captain Bishop, the intent was clear that we [Starfleet] were perceived as a threat which they were determined to stop by any means necessary - at one point even attempting to 'buy' our agreement with a promise of giving command of the Icarus and 'untold power beyond our wildest imaginings'. Through later interactions, our resolve and determination to protect our own from the threat they posed called their belief into question as we were presented with a window which looked out at the ensuing battle outside. It is this officers opinion that they believed us to be fruitlessly sacrificing lives for the sake of one man; once this was clarified not to be the case - but in fact all of us willingly giving of ourselves to protect the wider galaxy from their hostile influence - the tone changed.

Our final interaction with the lifeform/s took a much more serene overtone where they gave detail on their reasons for taking Captain Bishop. They elaborated on their 'initial intent' that he must die to protect the secret he unwittingly uncovered - the secret of their existence - and upon further questioning, revealed that our interactions coupled with their own observations of Captain Bishop while he was incarcerated, had served to make them question their belief.

They went on to identify themselves as 'the Senn' - a once expansive galactic civilization not unlike the Federation - which I would potentially liken to the Iconians in that they seemed to still be reeling from their early actions of interfering with undeveloped life, and the consequences this apparently held for them. The Senn acknowledged that - whilst similar in development and nature to their ancient selves - our conduct as guided by the Prime Directive set us apart from them and they had come to realize that we were not doomed to repeat their mistakes. It was at this point they posed myself and Commander Zh’Zhavis a question of whether we felt Starfleet was ready for first contact with them [coupled with confident assurances such contact would end in our 'doom'] - to which I reposed by suggesting that the Senn had been too long removed from civilization and were in fact not ready for first contact with us. This determination was accepted by the Senn who agreed to cease all hostilities and retreat beyond the Great Barrier at the outer extremities of the known galaxy, with the promise to remain out of reach for the galaxy at large while they 'considered' my words.

The Senn - for all the death and destruction they have caused to date, not least of which being the losses felt during this encounter -
remained true to their word, and after returning Captain Bishop to us they allowed us to restore communication with our vessels and promptly depart the Icarus after Captain's Skye & Timoreev succesfully infiltrated the Icarus to render aid. Whilst greeted with the somber sight of our task force, we bore witness to the Icarus willingly descending in the red gian'ts corona, affording us the opportunity to take stock of our losses and begin to tend the wounds - physical and otherwise -
that they had left us with.

RECOMMENDATION: Any and all historical data pertaining to the Senn [presumably more than is presently known, but may be supposed from relation to the one known relic in Captain Bishop's possession] should be collated with this new reference in mind, and preserved for posterity. Beyond this; it my humble and personal opinion that this threat has been successfully averted and requires no further direct action. Beyond this; we have the lasting price to pay through the losses felt during this encounter. Though far too many lives have been lost, I have no doubt in my mind that they were not lost in vain, given the potentially far reaching damage the Senn had the power to inflict upon the wider galaxy and believe this should be posthumously recorded against the name of every soul lost.

USS Fearless was also sacrificed, though her CO acted wisely in safeguarding the lives of his crew by calling evacuation when he did - this should be noted and considered when he is presented for reassignment. USS Attar suffered heavy damage and will require drydock time before returning to duty. At the time of writing this report, we have her under tow but intend to restore minimum functionality; that she may arrive home under her own power as a proud ship should. If it is found that the Attar will be unavailable for longer than is deemed acceptable; I offer the Valley Forge to carry Captain Timoreev's flag in the interim. Finally, I would humbly recommend all commanding officers involved in this vigil [including LCDR Eunbi as acting CO of the Valley Forge during the encounter] for appropriate recognition of the actions taken against impossible odds.

NARRATIVE:

Upon receiving a distress call, which stated a ship called the Icarus had Captain Bishop and were ready to turn him over, the assembled task force (the Attar, Fearless, MacAlpine and Valley Forge), warped to the coordinates. Worried that it might be a trap, all ships used the same anti-proton countermeasures to see if there were any cloaked ships in the area. There was none; the only ship was the Icarus which seemed to be trapped in the pull of a red giant star. When it hailed us, Captain Se'Lai and Commander Zhyl'ia were beamed off the ship, despite the fact that all ships were on Red Alert and shields were up. Lieutenant Commander Eunbi took control of the Valley Forge and we began to try to prevent the Icarus from colliding with the star, which it would do in around 10 minutes. However, scans of the ship revealed nothing that we could base our theories off; the hull seemed to prevent any scans. It was at this point when eight (8) enemy ships warped in. The Fearless and MacAlpine moved to intercept these ships, whilst the Attar and the Valley Forge continued to search for a way to retrieve the Captain and the Commander.

Lieutenant Commander Verlin suggested that if we could realign the anti-gravity generator, and use the deflector to excite and overload the tachyon shell around the sun, the rapid expulsion of the excited tachyon particles would, in effect, create "air resistance" in a vacuum; the particles bombarding the Icarus would cause the ship to slow down, buying us some more time. With quick adjustments, we were able to do this, and the Icarus was slowed, but not stopped.

Meanwhile, the Fearless and MacAlpine were making short work of the incoming vessels, when suddenly more vessels warped in. Ships logs in the aftermath reported that there were another nine (9) ships, although one was destroyed as soon as it arrived by the incoming USS Endeavour. The addition of the Endeavour was a welcome aid, but it was not enough, as the Fearless was soon hit critically, and the Attar was rammed when it tried to assist. Whilst the Endeavour and the MacAlpine managed to even the odds slightly, the real turning point occurred when the Fearless sacrificed itself to destroy one of the larger carriers. It was at this point when Captain Skye suggested that it would be best to retreat. Before a decision could be made, however, the Attar suddenly reported that she had lost all engine power trying to aid the Fearless survivors.

Whilst this was going on, the Valley Forge attempted to use a tractor beam to pull the slowed Icarus away. When the tractor beam was locked and engaged, however, there was feedback from the Icarus which overloaded Lieutenant Commander Verlin's console, and she sustained injuries. Whilst the Commander was being treated, I configured a pulse to effectively "push" the Icarus away, into a depreciating orbit, to buy us more time. The pulse worked, but drained a lot of power from the Valley Forge, dropping us to impulse capacity only.

The MacAlpine and the Endeavour now, with the upper hand being gained, made little work of the remaining vessels and quickly finished off the attacking force. With the battle over, and the Icarus slowed, I was finally able to get a sensor lock on the ship; the emissions from the sun had evidently weakened the hull's capacity to block sensors. I was able to confirm four life forms on the ship; a human, a Vulcan, and an Aenar; the last life form was unrecognisable. Though I could not beam them out due to some sort of disruption field, I was able to beam people across, and Captain's Skye and Timoreev volunteered to go. On their orders, I was able to beam them across. Still trying to get a transporter lock and push through the interference, I was able to boost the power to the transporter field which, along with the weakened hull of the Icarus due to the proximity to the sun, was enough to allow me to punch through the disruption field and beam the now five life forms back. These were the three Captains and the Commander, as well as Captain Bishop as I later learned.

RECOMMENDATION: I am not able to give any recommendations, at least, none which have not already been recorded in the previous reports. I would, however, personally, like to commend Lieutenant Commander Verlin. It was due to her scientific prowess that we were able to slow the Icarus down enough to prevent the recovery of the Captains and the Commander. Without her assistance, I would not have been able to slow down the Icarus enough, and I fear that we would have lost a lot of senior officers.

I would also like to add an observation of my own, from my own report and reading the other reports. This is, the situation just did not make any sense to me at all. If what Captain Se'Lai's report is correct, which I believe it to be so, why then was the assembled task force ambushed? The enemy had the capability to beam people off the ship even when shields were raised, so if the point of the attack was to destroy us, why did they go to the effort of even engaging us in the first place? Furthermore, why, in Captain Se'Lai's report, was she and the Commander given free reign over the ship if the enemy had meant to take them hostage? The attack on us and the capture of the Captain and Commander do not seem to add up; they seem to be two rather different events.

NARRATIVE:

The Endeavour had been on a routine patrol when we received a distress call stating that a ship called Icarus was ready to turn Captain Bishop over. Fearing a trap, the Endeavour relayed on the coordinates and the message back to DS 13, and moved to investigate. Upon arrival, it was clear that we were not the only ones to receive the message as the previous reports show. Moving in to assist our allies, we were set upon and attacked viciously. The Endeavour held her own, and, with the assistance of the MacAlpine, were able to overcome the attack. With the Fearless destroyed, and the Attar rendered immobile, the Endeavour and the MacAlpine both stepped up to destroy the remaining vessels, although not before we suffered extensive damage.

The battle, though fierce, was quick, the rather uncoordinated tactics used by the enemy was no match for the coordination between the Fearless, Attar, Endeavour and MacAlpine. Though their tactics did allow for them to wreak havoc on our ships, we were able to isolate individual ships and destroy them with relative ease.

Following this, the Endeavour assisted in the recovery of the Fearless' escape pods and escorted the other ships back to base.

Final casualty reports for the Endeavour stand as follows: 97 KIA 142 injured. All hands are accounted for.

RECOMMENDATION: The Captain seems to be weak, but unharmed, and he has been cleared to reside on the Valley Forge for the remainder of his recovery time, pending official confirmation.
I remain in command of the Endeavour whilst the Captain recovers, and then, if cleared to return to duty following extensive medical and psychological exams, I will step down. Should the Captain wish to reside on the Endeavour during his recovery, I would allow him to do so, although I would hesitate to allow him to stay on board should the Endeavour depart DS 13 on a patrol or mission. Thus, I recommend that he be assigned rooms on DS 13 for these occasions.
