LOCATION: Last known location of missing Civilian ships, region uncharted

MISSION: To locate the missing crews and passengers of the ships taken during the raid by species 2492 on Deep Space 13.

OUTCOME: Success: All ships located. Crews believed to be located.

KEY PERSONNEL:
Captain Emery Quint
Captain Tadashi Kawamori
Captain Somek
Commander T'Xereth
SubCommander R'lmus
Lieutenant Alidar
Centurion Vordai

NARRATIVE: The mission was conducted aboard the RRW Aensai, we warped to the location given under cloak. We discovered an array of metallic cylinders in a circular formation. The material was not exotic, and we could discern no true function. Many theories were put forward but, with no way to test them they remained that. A high intensity scan did cause them to change orientation somewhat but we could not repeat the change. Flagging this for follow up, the Aensai moved into the nearby star system. The system was made up of fifteen planets, and over a hundred moons, as well as two large asteroid belts. The system was also clearly populated. Scans soon confirmed ships of the design of Species 2492, identifying six dreadnoughts in the system, and dozens of smaller military craft. We also logged several starbases and thousands of ships moving about. The surface had six different races accounted for. This is where we located the SS Euphoria and VS T'Ladus, as well as 59 of their respective 61 crew. 41 were kept on a large starbase, and 18 on the surface in some sort of building. At this point we moved to the next planet in the system, this one far less populated and minimal traffic, however a larger military presence, also seeming to only have two of the previous six races present. We also discovered the remaining civilian craft. We were unable to deep scan the facility they were aboard due to its hull material however we believed we had located the remaining crews and passengers as well.

It should be stated at this point I requested to beam over to one of the civilian ships that had been taken to retrieve the data logs. Thus allowing us better picture of what had occured aboard them as well as maybe allow a scan from inside the station to verify the civilians presence and state. The counters to this ranged and ultimately the Commanding officer of the ship elected not to allow this course.

RECOMMENDATION: I do recommend follow up missions with Republic Ships, as the cloak successfully kept us form being discovered. Until we move to send a rescue operation this located system should be routinely explored under cloak. As there is plenty of opportunity to learn more about Species 2492, motives, tactics, as well as keep up on the state of the civilians.

OOC:This was Kermits mission and a lot of fun.

LOCATION: Last known location of missing Civilian ships, region uncharted

MISSION: To locate missing vessels abducted by Species 2492

OUTCOME: Success: All ships located. Crews potentially located. Intel obtained on 2 populated systems and enemy bases.

KEY PERSONNEL:

Commander Thue
Captain Emery Quint
Captain Tadashi Kawamori
Captain Somek
SubCommander R'lmus
Lieutenant Alidar
Centurion Vordai

NARRATIVE:

All relevant crew met aboard DS13 with Vice Admiral Perim and the mission objectives were explained. RRW Aensai's helm was given the coordinates indicated by DS13 crew during the abduction scenario. The mission was listed for explicitly recon with intent to avoid any conflict if possible.

All crew met aboard the bridge of the RRW Aensai and were instructed on the rules of the vessel. We proceeded under cloak.

On arrival at the coordinates given by fleet command, it was noted by sensor data that within five light years of our position there were several gravitational spikes identified as likely wormholes. Within the same distance were noted two star systems. It was determined the wormholes were likely locate within said systems.

On our approach vector, six smooth, small cylindrical vessels were found in a circular formation. No systems were noted to be on-board but faint energy signatures could be detected. Interestingly, once I ordered a high resolution scan of the items and this order was carried out, power readings aboard the vessels spiked. They drifted out of their circle, forming a pattern mapped out below.

We have not successfully determined the relevance of this formation if there is one to be had.

When no further event occurred we continued on to the first system.

System A:

Neutrino and verteron particles picked up by our vessel confirmed wormhole use in-system and a great deal many signals were picked up, indicating the system was inhabited. The system has fifteen planets, nine of which are inhabited. Several moons also show signs of colonization. Multiple starbases were detected.

It was determined that the ships were using dozens of wormholes to travel from one planet to the next, as well as out of system. The wormholes were small and this seems to imply this is their primary form of non-impulse travel. No warp signatures were detected during our time in either system. 2492 fleet vessels (including the dreadnoughts previously encountered) were seen to be on patrol routes. All ships did not have shields as in previous encounters. Routes will be included with this AAR and were at the time avoided.

In System A, two vessels were located: one Federation, one Vulcan. Identified visually as VS T'Ladus and SS Euphoria. No transmissions from either vessel could be located. Vessels were found to be moored to a 2492 starbase. 59 survivors were located by scan of known species. At the time this equated to 41 on the 2492 station and 18 planetside. Planetside individuals were located in two small groups in a building that belongs to a larger facility - perhaps a prison.

Six distinct species were located in total on this planet, discounting the lost civilians. 2492 appears to be a functional interplanetary society.

Risk ratio was too high to consider transporting said civilians away. We did not wish to ruin the element of surprise of Romulan cloak technology. After making note we continued to the next inhabited system.

System B:

System B had only one inhabited planet. It hosted a colony, with a military starbase and moored military ships - with approximately 12 inactive dreadnoughts moored. Two species were noted aboard this facility leading to speculation that their military may be composed of two of the six species.

SS Egril was located. We were unable to visually or sensor-wise confirm the remaining vessels, but elements of their hull were located in a general scan. The material of the facility in which all ships were drydocked was causing interference with invasive scans, which led to an inability to collect the detailed data on previous items. S.S. EGgril was able to be located due to positioning.

It was at this point that Captain Quint volunteered to be beamed aboard the vessel to collect data, as we were able to determine it was empty. Despite the Captain's vehemence at the benefit of said action I did not allow him to disembark for fear of jeopardizing the lives of any civilians remaining aboard their military facility.

After this was resolved, we charted a return to DS13 and arrived without incident.

RECOMMENDATION: Further cloaked scans to determine more societal aspects of the 2492 civilization and determine the potential for diplomatic relations. It is my opinion that the encounters with 2492 may be more misunderstanding than villainous intent after this mission. The technology the greater galaxy uses appears to be foreign to them.

Additionally, I ordered my intelligence officers to collect incoming communications intercepted in passing on secure data drives quarantined from the Aensai's hard drive.

I will be submitting these items to DS13 Engineering and Science for potential safe review/decryption. My officers inform me that these communications may be harmful as direct items are. This implied that if we are picking up many 'harmful' communications from inter-ship chatter, it may stem from an inherent technological discrepancy causing problems rather than intentional attacks.

Recommend that this possibility be considered before armed response is made.

It is also my recommendation that someone remind Captain Quint that we are not 'cowboys' and that Romulan assets don't much appreciate the cavalier human 'cowboy' attitude that he seems so comfortable with.
