NARRATIVE: On Stardate 94225.5, the USS Victory, USS Avalon, USS Camelot, USS Hokutosei, USS William Ockham, and RRW Aensai departed Deep Space 13 for the Itrin Sector. Our primary mission was the recovery of the Civilians taken by Species 2492. If possible this was do be done diplomatically, however not returning with these people was not an option. To that end we first attempted to contact anyone willing to talk in the first system we had previously explored. After two signals and no response, I elected to do something more visible, and that would also allow the RRW Aensai to proceed under cloak and attempt to locate our people.

At this point i directed the other ships in the task force to warp to various worlds and conduct high intensity scans, then warp away, and then to another location. This had the desired effect quickly as a signal from the 1st planet in the system opened a channel. To be on the safe side, I ordered the signal to be received on the isolated communication station to be prudent. Record to follow:

<C> 1st Planet, this is the USS Victory, we are reciving your signal, and I'm listening.
<C> "You have violated Azed. Depart."
<C> Azed. Thank you for responding. We will withdraw, after our people are recovered. We only wish to speak with your people. If you wish to be left alone, that can be done.
<C> "Information was provided. Recompense will not be returned."
<C> You are referring to your ships at our starbase? No information was provided. Your signal damaged our receivers.

The next signal was the system crippling transmission. It should be noted I had directed the Task Force to proceed with a withdrawal during the conversation. Also the other civilian ships in the system started to withdraw to the populated worlds. A detonation near the USS Hokutosei was also monitored during the conversation. I took this to mean we would not be resolving this with conversation. I ordered the Federation ships to regroup and move to one of the starbases near the outer edge of the system. The RRW Aensai was directed to remain near our abducted civilians, as I was looking to get 2492's attention on us.

Before we could regroup the USS Camelot and USS William Ockham were intercepted by a Dreadnought and a Frigate. I ordered the rest of the ships to move to support them as the Dreadnought immediately opened fire on the USS William Ockham. I further ordered tactical officers to coordinate with a recently developed pattern, Gainsborough Alpha 01. As the engagement grew, I ordered the RRW Aensai to recover the civilians. The resulting battle was short as the Frigate was unable to withstand heavy fire and was nearly destroyed. The dreadnought was also taking damage, insignificant at first but a phaser lance hit from the Camelot caused significant damage. However not before the USS Hokutosei received a glancing blow from the dreadnoughts primary weapon. The USS Victory was able to shove them clear with a tractor beam, but the beam still stuck the ventral engineering section.

As it attempted to withdraw it was clear their ability to form a gateway was compromised, USS Victory attempted to close this and advised the ship we would not continue firing if they stood down. They continued anyway. RRW Aensai advised they had recovered our people and that they were in some catatonic state, and at this point we started to withdraw from the system. There was a detonation of some kind, I assume the dreadnought had some adverse reaction to going through the wormhole.

As we were withdrawing I sent a signal to Fleet Command to apprise them of the situation and request if we should withdraw or continue to attempt a recovery of the other civilians. At that distance, it would be 71 minutes for a response, during our wait however, more ships from Species 2492 appeared in system, including larger ship classes we have yet to encounter. The situation was clearly beyond our means at this point. I sent a second signal to disregard, and advised we were returning. I also left a probe behind with a message to again request a dialogue.

RRW Aensai and USS William Ockham both divided the civilians between them to begin attempting to understand why they were in the state they were in. Upon arrival at Deep Space 13 several of these catatonic civilians were transferred to the stations medical bay.

RECOMMENDATION: I believe the RRW Aensai and the William Ockham should be allowed to continue with their investigation of the Civilians. Further investigation into 2492 and its reasons for a stance with us should be looked into.

OOC: This was Kermit's event and was a blast. I also encourage the others involved to write reports.
