NARRATIVE: As the U.S.S. William Ockham arrived at the edge of the Isep Xedi system (POI-D-3754 on the old maps) to conduct system surveys, sensors spotted a derelict vessel. In order to investigate, we changed course to intercept.

Upon closer examination, we established that there was minimal power, enough for life support, but little else. It also had an unusually high number of biosigns that were hard to distinguish and identify, and oddly clumped together. Unable to retreive more specific information, an away team was assembled.

From reports, it is understood that the away team was not on the ship for very long, or got very far. The ship appeared to be deserted, at first. It wasn't long after arrival that signs of the fungal infection began--a slight headache. It is to be noted that it was rapidly established before much damage could be done that the majority of the crew on the away team had been infected and that the cause were spores infesting the air.

The away team reportedly encountered a large mass of fungal life in the hallway, but that was as far as they got before returning to the ship.

The crew were beamed back directly to sick bay and quarantined. It seems the transporter biofilters did not recognize this spore infection as a threat. They have since been reprogrammed.

After treating symptoms and various experimentation, Acting Chief Medical Officer deCapulet, working in tandem with suggestions from Lieutenant Xan, was able to establish a treatment protocol to not only eliminate airborne particles, but to suppress the growth of the infection in the body while other means were explored. A chemical combination of medications was found to be effective in suppressing the spread of the fungal infection within the body, but did not reverse the damage. Eventually, an alternate version of ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and an ultraviolet beam directed onto the filtered bloodstream was used to eliminate the suppressed spores in the bloodstream itself. None of the damage was permanent.

RECOMMENDATION: The Ockham has towed the derelict ship back to DS-13. Recommend full decontam procedures and a team explore the records to see where this fungal occurrence originated from so that it can be avoided. Perhaps a preventative developed.

OOC: This was one of the continuing missions of the U.S.S. William Ockham. I would like to thank everyone who participated! It was a ball, even if it ran super, super late. If I messed up the narrative or your name or anything, please contact me and let me know!
