LOCATION: Kelterre Sector, Emission Nebula
MISSION: Explore Stellar Nursery
OUTCOME: Malfunctioning probes within nebula were causing erratic fluctuations. Probes opened fire, when destroyed, Tamarians came to defend, peaceable ending when we withdrew.

NARRATIVE:
The original mission was to explore an emission nebula, a theorized stellar nursery. Upon arrival, sensor indicated strong, erratic fluctuations of energy within it. Closer examination revealed probes of varying energetic strengths and frequencies that were apparently malfunctioning. It could have been because of the nebula's fluctuations, or more likely, caused the fluctuations.
Shortly after making this observations, the nearest probe turned and fired upon the Ockham. The Ockham fired back and disabled, and the neighbors that joined in the attack. It took almost no time for a Tamarian ship to arrive to defend the probes. We hailed it and they responded quickly.
Commander Dantes took over the conversation and after a lengthy attempt, we eventually departed to leave the Tamarians to repair their probes. We sent them coordinates to DS-13 as an invitation to visit for further talks.
RECOMMENDATION: Engage the Tamarians diplomatically and keep an eye on the emissions nebula.
