LOCATION: Diaderi Prime, Kelterre Sector

MISSION: Uncover intelligence information related to Species 2492.

OUTCOME: Away team located and retrieved several key sources of information. 2492 presence forced a retreat.

KEY PERSONNEL:
Captain Benjamin Rosewood
Commander Alistair Nimitz
Lieutenant (jg) Cyrene Mavil
Sublieutenant Shiarrael t'Lhoell
Sublieutenant Aev

NARRATIVE: Knowing our time on the surface was limited to one hour due to radiation levels the team set out to search immediately after arriving. Sublieutenant Shiarrael guided the team towards our first point of interest, a weak EM field reading. We found several items en-route to the EM field's source, including food stores and what appeared to be military clothing. Several soil and plant samples were taken. The source of the EM reading was an old console, which was still supplied with power and operational. Commander Nimitz interfaced with the console and reported that it displayed a general evacuation notice and listed emergency supply manifests. Further use of the console proved impossible, as it shut down shortly after our interaction. A brief attempt to repair it was made, but unfamiliarity with alien engineering thwarted our efforts.

Our next point of interest was a faint reading of neutrino particles located a short distance away from our present location. We uncovered a working power generator, albeit one that had been in a state of emergency low power output for quite some time. I was able to determine that the power system was harnessing power from a micro-wormhole, similar to Republic Navy power generation with micro-singularities. This is positive confirmation that species in this area are capable of acute wormhole manipulation, and offers insights into 2492 power supplies. Several scans were taken by myself, SUBLT Shiarrael, and LT Mavil, but radiation on the surface appears to have rendered portions of our data unusable.

The third point of interest was a narrow band subspace signal. After receiving updated time parameters from the Asimov we set out to search nearby crates for the source of this signal. Several crates were searched before I uncovered a crate that contained the remains of an individual, communications device in hand. The individual was attempting to shelter from the radiation in the crate, but that strategy proved unsuccessful. The comm device was attempting to transmit the following message:

Spoiler: Audio RecordingShow
Communication Device wrote:
The Frith have told the military that Azed demands our silence. Our last defenders will fall within the next cycle. Your Hunters are all that remain. I implore you to escape while there's still time. Appeal to the others, make the Confederacy see reason.

The voice is female, while the remains were male. Three key names can be identified from the message; the Frith, Azed, and the Confederacy. It is difficult to speculate with such limited evidence, but 'The Frith' appear to be a group of some sort, 'Azed' an individual, and 'The Confederacy' some type of government. I am unsure regarding the accuracy of our translation matrix, so further information is needed for corroboration. I asked our medical officer if she wished to collect the remains for further study, she and the other Federation officers did not deem that necessary. I collected the remains myself for further study at Republic facilities. This is the first chance to examine such items from 2492 space, a chance I deemed too important to let pass.

Trace levels of verteron particles lead us to our fourth point of interest. Commander Nimitz recovered a crate of small arms weaponry that seemed to operate on a scaled down version of the larger weapons employed on 2492 ships. I wasn't able to study the weapons in any detail, so further information on them will come from the Commander and starbase research. Travel to another point of interest was interrupted by the arrival of a 2492 dreadnought in orbit. The vessel fired on the surface with no injury to the away team. Emergency beam out protocols were enacted and all three ships retreated back to Deep Space 13.

RECOMMENDATION: Further monitoring of Diaderi Prime system. Study retrieved artifacts.

ADDENDUM: USS Asimov landed on Diaderi Prime surface near the location of a potential Diaderi military site. USS Akagi and USS Avalon remained in orbit to provide support.

47 minutes into the mission, Akagi and Avalon detected neutrino emissions and went to red alert. Asimov began departure preparations. Over the next two minutes, a Species 2492 Dreadnought appeared via wormhole and fired at several points on the planet's surface. Asimov retrieved the away team via emergency transport and made for orbit. All three vessels left the area safely without exchanging fire with 2492.

2492's targets appeared to be underground Diaderi military sites, one of which was being approached by our away team. Sensors showed that the site's entrance collapsed, at a minimum, likely preventing future intelligence-gathering expeditions. Power emissions from those sites ceased as well, suggesting that they may have been destroyed in entirety. Additionally, radiation levels spiked in the moments after the bombardment, possibly indicating that contamination within the bunkers was more severe than on the surface.

ADDENDUM: Plant and soil samples were taken from the planet surface and studied.

After analyzing the half-life of the radioactive plants to measure the decay rate over time, we can confirm that the cataclysm that made Diaderi Prime uninhabitable occurred at some point in the 2250's. Analysis of the soil samples shows that the radiation is consistent with antimatter bombardment, but exists at higher concentrations than would be expected for the level of physical destruction noted. It is likely that the planet was intentionally irradiated to prevent anyone from resettling there.

ADDENDUM: Diaderi Body Information/Analysis by CMDR Thue t'Xereth:

We can confirm that they were mammalian and previously unknown to our databases across known quadrants. It possessed antennae, though they seem too small to serve a purpose as the Andorians' antennae do, or similar species. They were likely useless and ornamental at this point in their evolution. The cadaver we came into possession of was male, they are similar to Romulanoids in size.

Lifespan, through projection, is potentially eighty to ninety years. This individual was somewhere along the thirty year mark when he died of systemic organ failure due to acute radiation exposure. This occurred somewhere between 150 to 170 years ago. Before his death he had no unhealed injuries and was in fine health and his state of being before death indicates that their medical level may be somewhere around our current medical level. Give or take. He did die of radiation exposure.

Full genetic profile and autopsy are enclosed.
