NARRATIVE: While the U.S.S. William Ockham was in orbit around Sushurra, an away team composed of scientific specialists was on the planet's surface, studying the remnants of a pre-warp society. Shortly after the ship came around the curve of the planet and was facing the sun, it was rocked by a massive concussive force.
Reports came in immediately that the force had originated from the binary stars in close proximity to one another--most likely a severe coronal ejection which had the unfortunate effect of pushing through an existing asteroid belt and flinging debris with it.
This repeated itself after a few moments, so the order was given to move the ship to behind the protective sphere of the planet once more. The away team was rescued from the surface. Sensors were damaged as well as communications, but some work has already been accomplished, as evidenced by the arrival of this report. The staff are compiling more information on this phenomenon as well as cataloguing injuries and damages and making a determination as to whether or not the ship should return.
More information will be forthcoming. A Class 10 solar probe will be dispatched.
RECOMMENDATION: Recommend no action until full reports are in.
