PEACE TALKS END IN TRAGEDY
Azedi Confederation, Federation and Romulan Representatives Shocked at Unexpected Attack During Talks
DEEP SPACE 13, ALDEBARAN SECTOR, Stardate 94840.3 - While the 38th Fleet ‘Argo,’ Romulan Republic and Azed Confederation were conducting peace talks, unknown forces entered the system and opened fire on the Confederation ships. Despite best defensive efforts of the Federation ships stationed at the base at the time, Deep Space 13 was destroyed, and several ships forced to evacuate.
Deep Space 13 is a highly-trafficked station that was on its way to becoming a hub for diplomacy and joint ventures between the Federation, the Romulan Republic and several other new governmental bodies willing to work peacefully with these two. Amongst the governments that had newly-introduced themselves to the Federation, were the Azed Confederation, an amalgamation of many species with a long history of working together.
Although the history with the Confederation was rocky, the time had finally come for differences to be put aside at the negotiating table. The Confederation sent their representatives to meet with Federation and Romulan Republic officials. During these peace talks, unknown forces arrived and began firing upon the Confederate ships near the station.
Battle broke out rather quickly. The Confederacy struck several Federation ships and the station in poorly-aimed shots. Regardless, as befit potential allies, the Federation ships came to their defense. Even with the combined efforts of the Azedi and the Federation, stray shots and the unknown forces took their toll on the station, as well as the defending ships.
Due to extensive damage to the station, Deep Space 13 was forced to evacuate. Currently, death tolls are estimated at fifteen thousand, with the count expected to increase over the next few days or weeks.
Rear Admiral Konieczko addressed the fleet at large, and included these words: “I ask you to remember the principle functions of Starfleet in this time as we have not strayed from that path. We continue the advancement of Federation knowledge about the galaxy and its inhabitants, the advancement of Federation science and technology, the defense of the Federation, and the facilitation of Federation diplomacy.”
It is a difficult time, as K-7 is overburdened and overcrowded with refugees from Deep Space 13. In the coming days, Starfleet officers, enlisted, and visting civilians are asked to give their patience as medical and administrative triage is performed.
