Command has authorized the commencement of work on Deep Space 13 and in the surrounding space. The following specific objectives have been assigned for completion this week:

Restore Remaining Systems - With primary systems back online, work on secondary and support systems can now resume. Transporters, replicators, holodecks, docking ports and bays, etc. are all included in this objective. This task will coincide with the return of DS13's Operations Department, presently numbering 500, as well as the transfer of station command & control back to Main Operations.

Sterilize and Restock Medical Facilities - DS13's sickbay areas were some of the hardest hit during the battle, compounded by contamination of necessarily clean areas such as surgical suites and isolation rooms. Before the station can be considered fully operational, its medical facilities must be restored to a pristine state. This task will coincide with the return of DS13's Medical Department, numbering 800.

Reactivate Auxiliary Structures - While largely undamaged individually, the station's external structures (Transwarp Conduit, Communications Relay, Industrial Fabricator, Drydock Facility) must be restored to normal working order and staffed in preparation for supporting the 38th Fleet. This task will coincide with the return of the full Engineering Department, currently numbering 2,000.

Restock Auxiliary Craft - In preparation for the station's full reactivation, a shipment of new and refurbished auxiliary craft has been prepared for transit to DS13. Many of these are shuttles and runabouts that departed during the activation, but this task also includes the critical step of reinstalling the station's many escape pods.

Disassemble Scaffolding Structure - In the second week of reconstruction, a scaffolding structure was constructed to support ongoing repairs. With the station nearing completion and structurally sound, this scaffolding can now be safely dismantled and recycled.

Return of Remaining Departments and Fleet Support Personnel - With essential systems and services restored, along with the clearing of sufficient living space, the DS13 Intelligence, Science, and Counseling Departments, presently numbering 35, 20, and 160 respectively, will be returning. The 38th Fleet command and administrative officers will also be making their return at this time. THIS TASK MUST BE COMPLETED LAST.

Event Type: Free-form

Starting Point: N/A

OOC point of contact: any staff member

The fate of DS13 will be determined partially through this series of weekly events. Each week, command will assign a number of tasks to be completed. Rather than being actual scheduled events, these are simply available prompts for players to organize and go RP. You may use this thread, or any other means of communication to set up RP sessions

This is a dynamic event in which the overall outcome will be determined by player involvement. If tasks are not completed by players within the time allotted, NPCs will pick up the slack off-screen, but they're just not going to be as effective as actual player characters. Incomplete tasks will count negatively towards overall progress. Those NPCs just can't get anything right, after all.

Each task must be undertaken by a minimum of two players and will only be considered complete once an AAR is posted. While only one group/AAR is required to count, multiple groups can work towards the same task, if there's enough interest.

Please note that these are free-form events. Unlike structured events, that means that the GM is only providing the setting and YOU are free to determine your own results. You are free to tell your own stories within the context of the mission. You can be successful, you can run into complications, you can fail, and anything in between.

The only restrictions are as follows:
- You may not destroy the starbase.
- You may not exceed the week's objectives or be so successful that you hamper the overall plot.
- You may not recover any survivors from the station or surrounding area, without staff approval.
- You may not fundamentally alter the overall plot.

Previously completed tasks:

Initial Damage Report - Following the devastation of last week's events and the conclusion of preliminary search and rescue efforts, Fleet Command has ordered a structural evaluation of the starbase wreckage. Before any future efforts can be made towards recovery and repair, or salvage, it must be determined whether or not the station itself is structurally sound. An engineering team is being prepared to deploy to DS13 to conduct an assessment and prepare the first official damage report.

Spoiler: 26 Nov - 2 Dec: Week 1Show
Clear local debris - Before any major external projects can begin, the local debris field must be cleared for safety reasons. Intact starship segments or components may be delivered to the drydock for reuse. Large scrap may be towed to the industrial fabricator, and small scrap collected for recycling. Biomass should be collected for possible casualty identification. These tasks can be completed via starship, runabout, or shuttle.

Clear internal debris - The station's interior is currently littered with its own debris. Entire sections remain inaccessible or impassable. While actual repairs will have to wait, teams are being authorized to deploy in EV suits to begin clearing rubble and gaining access to damaged areas. Not only is this process vital to potential future repair efforts, but it will also allow the recovery of the remaining casualties, presumed dead inside.

Spoiler: 3 Dec - 9 Dec: Week 2Show
Construct Scaffolding and Remove Outer Hull - Spaceframe damage has left many decks of the station critically unstable. Differences in stress between damaged and undamaged sections have the potential to cause deck collapse even in microgravity. As a result, a scaffolding structure must be erected to remove these forces and provide a platform for future work. The first step once the scaffolding is in place will be to remove the station's outer hull, where damaged and where blocking external access to damaged sections.

Deconstruct Damaged Sections and Repair Spaceframe - The most critical damage and therefore the first repair priority is the spaceframe. Repairs to the spaceframe must be completed before any other repairs can be attempted. Three points were identified where the station is severed at the central axis. Damaged structures must be removed, replaced, and welded together so that the skeleton is complete and stable.

Spoiler: 10 Dec - 16 Dec: Week 3Show
Install New Reactor Systems - DS13 is powered by three fusion reactors (Primary in Reactor Core Section, Secondary in Lower Core Section, Tertiary in Command & Control Section) and a Matter/Antimatter Reactor (Reactor Core Section). Only the primary fusion reactor is still present to be repaired; the rest of the reactors were jettisoned and will need new replacements. Teams this week will place and install the newly fabricated replacement reactors and ensure that each has a functioning control room, in preparation for next week's restoration of power.

Repair Primary Electro-Plasma Distribution Network (EPDN) - The EPDN is the system of conduits that provides power to the entire station. The damage to these conduits from weapons, hull breaches, and overloads was extensive. If the reactors are activated while connected to damaged conduits, fires and explosions could be the result. This week's goal is to seal any exposed conduits, ensure the integrity of intact conduits, and rebuild the primary connections to the station's vital areas.

Repair and Refill Fuel Pods - DS13's fusion reactors run on Deuterium fuel, and the M/ARA (Warp Core) additionally requires a supply of Antimatter. Much of the station's fuel supply leaked out or has been otherwise depleted, and several of the storage pods have been damaged. These fuel pods must be repaired and refilled in preparation for restoring main power.

Spoiler: 17 Dec - 23 Dec: Week 4Show
Repair Environmental Systems - In preparation for crew returning, the systems in the station's environmental section must be repaired. These systems produce, store, recycle, and distribute the station's atmosphere, gasses, and water. The environmental levels' facilities for handling waste are also essential. This task must be completed successfully before the restoration of onboard life support can be considered.

Replace Remaining Fuel Pods - The previous week's assignment failed to install 25% of DS13's fuel pods. While 100% fuel levels are not necessary to continue work, the installation of the pods themselves - and ensuring that their housings and nearby structures are not damaged - is an important supplementary task that has been added to this week's schedule.

Spoiler: 25 Dec - 06 Jan: Weeks 5 & 6Show
Establish Onboard Command Post - While the station is not yet ready for permanent crew return, it is now capable of supporting a small number of personnel around the clock. Main Operations and Auxiliary Control are still heavily damaged, so Command has decided to set up a temporary command post in Main Engineering to support continuing repair operations. This includes the setup of temporary living spaces (cots, food replicators, etc.) in the engineering section. THIS TASK MUST BE COMPLETED FIRST.

Repair or Replace Large Essential Components - Large internal components such as Shield Generators and Computer Cores must be restored to working order. As these components are deep within the station's structure, replacing them is not an easy task. It is advisable to take advantage of the depressurized sections and deconstructed hull to access these components externally. Once repaired or installed, they can be connected to the power grid and tested.

Complete Major Structural Repairs - This task involves rebuilding the internal structure of the station. Rooms and walls and doors, hallways and supports and bulkheads, all need repairing and replacing. This work is best completed before the outer hull is rebuilt, so large sections can be removed and inserted externally. As this task progresses, more and more of the station can be pressurized, which will make future systems repairs easier.

Construct New Docking Ring - A stuctural subtask, one entire protrusion of the docking ring section was destroyed in the battle (pictured above). A new ring must be constructed from scratch in its place. This section contains docking bays, ports, airlocks, as well as cargo storage bays.

Spoiler: 06 Jan - 20 Jan: Weeks 7 & 8Show
Route Command & Control Systems - While the temporary command post will remain in use for the duration of construction and repair efforts, the next step is to prepare the station's usual Command & Control centers for permanent use. This includes Main Operations ((embassy ops)), Auxiliary Control ((starbase ops)), and Tactical Control ((starbase tactical)).

Rebuild External Structures - Now that the station's major interior construction is complete, the final stage of external construction can continue. This includes the reinforced outer hull plating, windows, doors, hatches, and bays. This task includes full station repressurization, testing of structural integrity, and testing of emergency bulkheads and forcefields.

Prepare Tactical Systems - DS13's considerable arsenal of phaser arrays, turrets, and torpedo tubes must all be inspected, repaired, or rebuilt/replaced as necessary. As part of this task, offensive and defensive systems should be tested and calibrated.

Confirm Internal Security - The onset of this task will coincide with the permanent return of DS13's security complement, currently 485-strong. All areas of the station must be swept for anything that doesn't belong. With repairs and construction ongoing, areas of the station that would normally be inaccessible without clearance have been wide open (sometimes literally). It's more important than ever to ensure that there is no opportunity for sabotage, espionage, or any other unscrupulous activity aboard.

Science Sections Clean-Up - Given the damaged sustained and the hurried nature of the evacuation, the state of the station's scientific facilities remains unknown. Labs and experiments must be secured. Hazardous and sensitive substances must be contained or removed. Experiments left In-progress may need to assessed, reset, or removed. This task is designed to both ensure the safety of the station for future return of crew, and to prepare the science facilities for use.

Crew Sections Clean-Up - Before permanent crew can return, clean-up of the station's living areas must be performed. This includes mess halls, shelter areas, and crew quarters. Personal belongings of deceased and transferred personnel must be collected and removed. Remaining personnel will be permitted to visit/examine the state of their own quarters as part of this task.

Spoiler: 20 Jan - 03 Feb: Weeks 9 & 10Show

I understand there's been some confusion regarding the nature of this event. Please see the below descriptions and examples showing the difference between free-form and structured RP.

Spoiler: Show

Free-form RP
Roleplay in which players are individually permitted to determine the responses of the environment. In a free-form RP you are allowed and expected to emote your character's actions AND the results of them on the environment. The players involved are meant to collaboratively write the scene using their own creativity. If there is a GM, the GM's role is in setting the scene, providing the backdrop, and controlling any key NPCs. Using those methods, the GM may gently guide the event to a particular outcome, or it may be entirely open-ended.

Note: free-form RP is not an excuse to godmode. Actions that affect other player-characters must still be only be attempted, so that the other player is afforded the opportunity to emote the result on their own character.

Spoiler: Free-form RP might look something like this:Show
[6:39] [Fleet] GM: <C> "Ops to Engineering Team 3, we're getting reports of flickering lights down on Deck 84. Please go check it out and report back."

...

[6:45] Kermit scans the power conduit with his tricorder and notes that it is out of alignment.

[6:45] [Local] Kermit: "Hey guys, over here. I think I found the problem."

[6:47] Suvik responds with a nod and walks over. He takes a hyperspanner out of his toolkit and gets to work. After several adjustments, he steps back. "I believe I have corrected the fault, Commander. Please verify my results."

[6:48] Kermit , who had been daydreaming about ice cream, looks back to his tricorder. "Oh! Yep, back within a 0.2 micron tolerance."

[6:50] [Local] Suvik: "That is acceptable. I will inform Operations that our task is complete."

Structured RP
Roleplay in which the GM exercises total control over the environment in which players will interact. Players are expected to emote their character's actions only, leaving the GM to provide the outcome. Structured RP events may be 'on rails' in that the GM has a specific and particular story that they are telling through RP. There may be multiple possible outcomes depending on player decisions, or the event may even be open-ended in the outcome is entirely determined by player decisions.

'Bridge RP' is a subset of structured RP in which characters each man a particular station of a ship's bridge and receive information from the GM throughout the event, specific to their role on the crew.

Spoiler: Structured RP might look something like this:Show
[Fleet] GM: <C> "Ops to Engineering Team 3, we're getting reports of flickering lights down on Deck 84. Please go check it out and report back."

...

[6:45] Kermit scans the power conduit with his tricorder.

[6:45] [Tell to Kermit] GM: The conduit is out of alignment.

[6:46] [Local] Kermit: "Hey guys, over here. I think I found the problem. This conduit's out of alignment."

[6:48] Suvik responds with a nod and walks over. He takes a hyperspanner out of his toolkit and gets to work.

[6:48] [Tell to Suvik] GM: It takes a few minutes, but eventually the problem is fixed.

[6:49] Suvik makes several adjustments, checking his work along the way. After a few moments pass, he steps back. "I believe I have corrected the fault, Commander. Please verify my results."

[6:51] Kermit , who had been daydreaming about ice cream, looks back to his tricorder to recheck the conduit.

[6:51] [Tell to Kermit] GM: The conduit appears to be back in working order.

[6:52] [Local] Kermit: "Oh! Yep, back within a 0.2 micron tolerance."

[6:53] [Local] Suvik: "That is acceptable. I will inform Operations that our task is complete."

If someone wants to host/GM a structured event that ALSO accomplishes the objectives of this event, you are more than welcome to. However, that is not a requirement. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Updated for Weeks 5 & 6. After the first task is completed, there'll be a permanent presence on DS13 (and therefore potential for non-task-related RP for anyone who wants their character to spend some time roughing it in makeshift quarters in the engineering sections!)

From this point onward, NPCs will be constantly (and competently) working on repairs in addition to PC efforts, so feel free to keep this in mind for your worldbuilding/ambiance needs.

Happy Holidays, all!

Updated for Weeks 7 & 8. At this point, work on DS13 should be proceeding daily. NPCs will be performing internal work and miscellaneous repairs 24/7, in addition to the primary tasks assigned to players above.

As noted, once the security task is underway, the Security Department will be the first to permanently move back to DS13. Please do not take this to mean that you can't RP on K-7 anymore. Presumably security is also accompanying all of the crews moving back and forth between the two stations, so there's plenty of opportunity to RP in either location.

Information on the permanent return of the rest of the crew will be available once all tasks are completed!

Updated for Weeks 9 & 10 (a day early, even!).

At this point work on DS13 should be in its final stages. Miscellaneous and cosmetic repairs are being performed by NPCs around the clock, in addition to the primary tasks assigned to players above.

As noted in the descriptions above, each starbase department will be returning as part of one of the tasks. If you have a starbase character, I highly recommend getting together with others in your department to RP your task/return. Don't sit around waiting for someone else to set it up, it's time to take some initiative!

Once all tasks are completed, all Starfleet personnel will have returned to DS13 permanently. At this point, regular RP will move from K-7 to the fleet station. Information about reopening to civilian characters will follow shortly after.
