NARRATIVE: Whilst conducting border surveys alongside USS Akagi & Baton Rouge along the established Azedi-claimed border, long range sensors detected a large number vessels on an intercept course at low warp. These were soon determined to be cosmozoan's and further identified against ship's records of those known to be used for space travel by a species known as the Tik's. Working from experience of previous encounters with this species, we deduced that something was amiss given their somewhat xenophobic outlook. Though specifically this outlook was towards users of artificial technology rather than specific species types.

Allowing the herd to approach, we were promptly contacted with a request for aid; stating that they had been attacked and that one of their cosmozoans was dying (also making reference to previous encounters with the species by this ship, indicative of the possibility that one of this specific herd was the same Tik vessel that was previously dealt with). A preliminary scan of the creature indicated severe energy weapon damage to it's lower port beam with trace indicators of neutrino and verteron signatures; readings consistent with Azedi weapon configurations.

Upon our agreement to attempt assistance, we were provided coordinates for an away team to transport to the cosmozoan - further evidence of their desperation in light of known attitudes towards technology and users of it. The interior environment was entirely aquatic and reportedly likened to an estimation of the interior of a biological lifeform with reference to corridors being akin to blood vessels and the liquid environment to the creatures blood-equivalent, including it's circulatory flow which hindered the teams progress on several occasions during the mission.

Internal assessment of the injury determined that one of the creatures primary organs was damaged and it was essentially bleeding internally. With the organs functionality likened to that of a bipedals kidney, the optimal solution was in fact presented by LT Finney who was quick to associate the functionality of such an organ in an aquatic environment with that of our water purifiers. This revelation led the team to determine that the optimal course of action was to install a series of adapted purifiers to the cosmozoan's interior, effectively running a dialysis treatment. Though the Tik's were naturally apprehensive of such a treatment, they were - thanks in no small part to a commendable diplomatic display from Mia - convinced to attempt the treatment in favour of abandoning the creature to die.

The overall treatment process took several hours for the adaptation and installation of the water purifiers, and upon completion we had to 'transfuse' a large volume of environmental fluid from another member of the herd. However at the time of parting company from the Tik's, the injured cosmozoan was confirmed as having biologically accepted the implanted water purifiers and - though still weakened and under observation from the Tiks - showed early signs of making a recovery.

RECOMMENDATION: No further action is deemed necessary in direct response to these events. Scan data of the cosmozoan interiors is included for archiving, along with copy data of all information provided to the Tik's regarding the installation, use, and removal of the water purifiers. Though diplomatic relations with the Tik's are not believed to hinge solely on the outcome of this action, it is the consensus of those who interacted with them that successful recovery of this injured creature will serve to distinctly strengthen the bonds of trust between the Tiks and the Federation.
