LOCATION: Xarantine Sector

MISSION: Response to U.S.S. Zulu distress call.

OUTCOME: The USS Zulu was successfully rescued. Twenty Pirates captured to stand trial on Sherman's Planet.

KEY PERSONNEL:
CAPT A.H. Nimitz (U.S.S. Akagi)
CMDR R. Phoenix (U.S.S. Zulu)
ENS A. Carter

NARRATIVE: The U.S.S. Akagi received a distress call from the U.S.S. Zulu at around an hour after the start of Beta shift.

"Priority One Message: "This is the USS Zulu. We are under fire and are requesting backup. We are unable to withdraw."

Responding at top speed, the Akagi approached to find the Zulu under attack by three Klingon vessels, one Bortas class Battlecruiser and two Birds of Prey. The Bortas approached and responded to our hail, warning us to stay away. After a short but failed attempt to ward off the attack, I decided that the situation with the Zulu was becoming worsen. Cutting off the comms, the Akagi engaged the Bortas, quickly wearing down her shields and forcing her to cloak. Upon the Bortas's cloak, one of the two birds of prey veered away from its attack on the Zulu and made an attempted strafing run at the Akagi, but was quickly destroyed. The second bird of prey attempted her own strafing run as well. Opening a hail to the second bird of prey, the captain was quickly convinced that he was better off abandoning the battle.

The second Bird of Prey was destroyed by the Bortas as it attempted to flee the battlefield, the Bortas then warped away from the battlefield leaving only the Akagi and the Zulu still remaining. By this time the Zulu had been under assault inside the ship from boarding parties, I instructed Commander Phoenix to patch me into her vessel's PA system, and instructed the boarding parties to surrender their arms and escort themselves to the nearest cargo bay. I lead them to believe that I was beaming one hundred MACOs onboard the Zulu to aid the crew. The boarding parties decided not to call my bluff and did as instructed.

My first officer lead three security teams, two engineering teams and one medical team over to the Zulu to help with repairs and give medical attention where needed while the Akagi locked a tractor beam on the Zulu to tow them to K-7.

RECOMMENDATION: During the battle, Ensign Carter was able to discover that the Klingon ships did not bare the emblem of any KDF or Klingon Empire affiliated organization, this could be the emergence of a potentially very dangerous pirate faction, I recommend we take advantage of the twenty pirates captured on the Zulu to press for information and keep an eye out for more ships baring their emblem. I also recommend that the twenty pirates stand trial with the charges of piracy, murder, attempted murder, and attempted kidnapping, and be judged by a jury of their peers on Sherman's Planet.
