MISSION: Attempt to stablise the Red Clone

OUTCOME: Red Clone died in surgery, autopsy report complete

KEY PERSONNEL:
CAPT A. Nimitz
CMDR M. Leveson-Scott
CMDR K. Verlin

LCDR A. Biaan NPC

NARRATIVE: The Red clone we received (henceforth referred to as the patient), had received serious injuries on the planet, including severe brain damage, multiple bone fractures and a broken rib which had pierced the left lung. The patient went into cardiac arrest soon after we tried to stabilise her and her organs began to shut down. She was prepped for immediate life-saving surgery. However, despite our efforts, we were not able to stop the organ failures. The patient was listed deceased at 2100 hours ship time.

Commander Leveson-Scott suggested that we transfer the patient's neural activity to a holographic recreation of her in order to preserve her dying brain functions. Given the nature of the patient and authorisation from the Captain, this procedure was successful with all brain functions being transferred safely. This hologram is being stored in Holodeck 8 for further questioning.

I then began the autopsy, which included the data that the above team managed to gather whilst the patient was in surgery. The cause of death was ascertained to be multiple organ failure, though this was not linked to the injuries sustained by the patient on the planet. Shortly after death, the patient secreted a strange chemical that was not recognised by the databanks, and that vanished soon after. This was later confirmed to be the same chemical that the other team observed when they ran genetic experiments on the holographic representation of the patient.

The autopsy of the patient revealed that the clones have a similar DNA structure to the Nelaraan DNA, though there is a certain degree of genetic alteration. For example, a genetic marker is edited to create the differing skin colours. Other alterations included no presence of white blood cells or platelets in the bloodstream, but an increase of red blood cells, no doubt to increase oxygen transfer to make the clones more efficient. The clones have a smaller digestive system, which ends at the stomach; it seems that the clones sweat out any waste which would require them to have a sanitation wash at least twice a day to prevent waste accumulation on the skin. Because of this, it is unknown what the clones use for nourishment; the stomach seems highly adapted to absorb any nutrients, to the extent that it is possible for them to "feed" on air alone.

The Clones have no reproductive organs either, though this was to be expected given the fact their nature.

It is to be noted that four hours after the patient's death, the body began to decompose rapidly, with the body shrinking by 74%. Before we could transfer the body into a vacuumed environment, the body summerily disintegrated. Out of respect for the body, we ended our scans there and transferred the remaining ashes into a container for burial.

RECOMMENDATION: The chemical compound (attached below), seems to be related to the clones' genetic alterations somehow and is likely the cause of the patient's organ failure. The compound itself is unknown and seems highly volatile, disappearing before proper scans can be made. I would recommend that we gain another sample of the chemical to further analyse it.

I would also like to add that though the transfer of the patient's consciousness into the hologram was successful, we could not reverse the brain damage caused. The neurological pathways will continue to deteriorate until the hologram is unable to parse. I would recommend that the hologram be terminated before this happens and the patient be granted a peaceful and respectful termination.

LCDR A. Biaan (Doctor I/C) NPC

NARRATIVE: Beginning with Captain Bishop just before the talks, the above personnel (bar LCDR A. Biaan), fell ill soon after the talks. Symptoms included an increase in temperature, vomiting, excessive sweating, increased heart rate, and strong headaches.

Beginning with Captain Bishop, it was believed to be an isolated case, an illness picked up through an increase of stress as the Captain is prone to having. The illness was easily treated and the Captain was relieved of command for the rest of the day to rest, causing him to miss the diplomatic talks.

However, a day or so after the talks, Captain Morton, who was a guest aboard the Endeavour, reported to sickbay with similar symptoms. This was followed by Commander Leveson-Scott who complained of the same symptoms. Captain Bishop began to suspect that the illnesses were related since Commander Leveson-Scott had received a medical check following her return from the planet days earlier and was deemed to be in perfect health. He summarily called the USS Akagi for Captain Nimitz, who, upon arrival to the Endeavour sickbay, informed us that he had suffered a similar illness.

Cross-referencing his, Captains Morton and Nimitz's, and Commander Leveson-Scott's medical records, he found that there was a lone chemical that was the same throughout the four of them. Captain Nimitz recognised this chemical as the same one found in the body of the Red Clone; Unknown Chemical Compound #2323.

Upon contacting the USS MacAlpine, Leyte Gulf, and Baton Rouge, and receiving the medical reports of the rest of the above officers, I could verify that the compound had been present in all members of the diplomatic delegation. The chemical did not remain in their bodies long; its volatile nature meant that it had disappeared very soon after their exposure to it. Scans of the conference room and the Captain's ready room confirmed that the chemical had been registered in those areas, but the computer was unable to identify it at the time.

All of the affected officers were able to recover fully with no side effects in a matter of hours.

RECOMMENDATION: I once again recommend that a source of this chemical compound be obtained so that we can examine it further. The Endeavour's environmental sensors have been updated to flag up the chemical once detected, and this has been relayed onto the other ships in the Task Force.

OOC: This is the AAR for the events after "Ace in the Hole," as well as a small impromptu that was run. If anyone who was at that impromptu wants to add more recommendations to cover what was discussed, feel free! Since Azuri wasn't really around for that discussion, I've omitted it and just focused on the doctor's recommendations!
