BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

A Romulan born on Romulus to a pair of wealthy and high-status military veterans, Marrus began his career in the Star Navy at the behest of his father to follow his footsteps. A proud Imperial, his first assignment was aboard a Romulan vessel during the Dominion War. An established and respected Antecenturion to his fellow crewmates, his time aboard the ship, and the dragging-on of the conflict, sowed his xenophobia, festering a distaste for Humans, Klingons, and Cardassians specifically in the young officer. However, his service alongside the Federation and the Klingon Empire, despite his obvious aversion, showed he could work competently alongside alien species. For his deeds throughout the war, Marrus eventually was honored with the rank of Centurion after serving as an executive officer, showing he had the potential for leadership. In the years after the Dominion crisis, the Imperial was responsible for the command of his own vessel, a Mogai Heavy Warbird, in the Imperial Armada.

Marrus wasn't present during the destruction of the homeworld, instead on assignment in the outer reaches of Romulan Imperial space when the supernova hit Romulus. While the crew of his vessel was devastated to hear the news, the commanding officer himself was outwardly stoic, showing few signs of feelings on the matter. In private, Marrus was furious, angered at the failure of even the galaxy's greatest scientists to stop his people's near-destruction. He looked to once again blame the Federation, the self-proclaimed heroes of the Beta Quadrant, only fueling his xenophobia and hatred for all things alien, and thus, lesser.

In years following the Hobus supernova, Marrus continued command of his vessel, producing a several decade-spanning career of service in the Imperial Fleet. With the fate of much of his family sealed on Romulus, he wasn't known to his crew to be easy to speak to. The majority of the interwar period involved basic border skirmishes with neighboring states, but outright conflict was rare. Nonetheless, Marrus was dedicated to his Empire, remaining in active service for the following decades.

Only during a border conflict with the Federation in the waning months of 2413 did Marrus' relatively quiet Imperial lifestyle come to an end. Assigned to defend the Empire's interests regarding a set of conquered worlds on the outer reaches of the Rator Sector, he found himself in a position where the Federation was gaining more and more traction in the region. Unable to call for reinforcements due to his beloved Star Empire crumbling from the inside out, Marrus and the other commanding officers in charge of the conflict made the decision to bombard nearby civilian populaces in order to draw out Starfleet Forces into open conflict with the Empire, allowing for a desperate attempt at victory to be made. However, due to the resilience of his opponent, particularly a Sovereign-class Starfleet refused to fall for the tactic, causing Marrus and his fellow Imperials into a desperate situation.

With the Empire collapsing, Marrus had for months been seeing the writing on the wall. In the face of Starfleet destruction, he was left with little choice but to begin negotiations of surrender. However, distrusting of the Federation, he made the decision to entrust the talks to the Romulan Republic. He and the others surrendered specifically to the Republic, preferring to leave Starfleet and the Federation out of the negotiations altogether. After weeks of talks, Marrus and the rest of the defense force was brought under the custody of the Romulan Republic, and brought to New Romulus for talks of their future.

Eventually, after extensive talks with the Republic regarding his fate, his negotiators came to a deal; in exchange for a full pardon, his Mogai Heavy Warbird would be confiscated as their own, and Marrus himself would be pressed into service as a Commander in the Republic Navy, captaining the ship once more. However, his crew would be exchanged.

In the years since his pardon, Marrus has had little chance to prove himself, even as the Romulan Republic grows in status. Used to his Imperial roots meaning easy progression, Marrus has had a difficult time acclimating to the Republic's accepting culture, put off by their near-xenophilic nature, including the treatment of Remans. Due to his rough, still Imperial-like nature, he found himself progressing very little.
