---Begin Report---
The Semmelweis returned to Waydis IV to conduct further scans of the mining platform and deploy an away team for an internal inspection of the same platform. The mission was overseen by Lieutenant-Commander Quaen while Captain T'Par of the Semmelweis handled ship operations.
While approaching the mining platform, the Semmelweis conducted a battery of scans using nonstandard equipment. The results have been appended to this report.
An away team consisting of Lieutenant-Commander Quaen, Lieutenant Hob, and Mr. Zaythowerb Nagimir was beamed aboard the platform in environmental suits to examine and recover data on the purpose and origin of the site. The results of the mission are as follows:
- Tanks containing Hydrogen-3 were found in various places aboard the station. Mr. Nagimir analyzed the contents of one tank and determined that the Hydrogen-3 therein had been in storage for 52,783 years.
- A holographic interface was discovered. It was noted as having a dedicated core separate from the station mainframe. The interface was corrupted, but has been copied and that copy brought to AG-21-8 for reconstruction.
- DNA was found on a bed that appears to have been part of a sickbay or science facility. A sample of the DNA was brought to AG-21-8 for study. Preliminary analysis shows that the DNA belongs to no known species, including the Waydi.
- In the same room as the DNA sample, a partially-intact datacore was discovered with several accessible entries. All entries were subject to degradation and missing sections, but some information was salvaged. See below.
- One crate of miscellaneous parts was beamed aboard the Semmelweis from the platform. A radio shipping tag found on the crate was also recovered and brought to AG-21-8 for study with the intention of discovering the crate's station of origin.
- Gas leaks abounded throughout the platform, visible due to the bright red color of the gas. Scans indicate that the red color may be from tagging, but the gas has not yet been identified.
- Away team members also noted that the platform's corridors were doubly insulated. Various hypotheses regarding the purpose of this were posited, but no conclusive evidence was found.
- Numerous scans were taken, including a battery to determine the atmospheric makeup and the geometric stratification of atmospheric elements. Data from these scans has been appended to this report.
Data retrieved from the datacore indicates that the species operating the mining platform possessed holdings across the galaxy--one entry referenced an "empire." While they were present, the Waydi were known to them but considered primitive. This is indicated both by an entry in the datacore and an image found in a locker-type container depicting a Waydi with primitive tools.
The mining species' datacore entries indicate that something referred to as the "Dark Wave" was approaching the station. The miners understood this Dark Wave to be a force of destruction and attempted to scuttle their own mainframe and the datacore to prevent the Dark Wave from being able to find other holdings of their empire. The miners also noted that the Dark Wave seemed to ignore pre-warp or pre-industrial species, and based on this posited that the Waydi were safe at the time.
The last entry on the datacore expressed certainty that the Dark Wave would eradicat the miners' entire species.
Names mentioned by the miners: Gabis, Jors, & Nathal.
- Preliminary analysis of the datacore entries suggests that the "Dark Wave" was a warp-capable species or coalition rather than an astrological phenomenon. This is based on the belief expressed by miners that they could prevent the Dark Wave from "finding" their other holdings by scuttling their databanks. Considering the result of the conflict between the miners and the Dark Wave, however, it is not impossible that they were wrong about the nature of the Dark Wave.
Exploration of the platform was halted when the away team encountered an unstable passage. Although blockages were also encountered earlier in the mission, this passage was deemed too dangerous to proceed down without specialized expertise and equipment. Chassy Quaen ordered the Away team to return to the beam-in location and depart. Mr. Nagimir protested, but ultimately acquiesced to the Lt. Cmdr.
Captain T'Par is maintaining a state of readiness among all Semmelweis crew for a second expedition to the platform as soon as suitable equipment can be loaded aboard and suitable specialists are gathered.
---End Report---
*appended are two datasets and an analysis report. The first is the battery of scans performed from space by the crew of the Semmelweis. The second includes data from numerous tricorder scans of the platform interior. Included with the second dataset is a rough map of the platform's layout with the origins of all tricorder scans marked and annotated. The analysis report is based on the tricorder scans and mostly notes correlations between tricorder placement and scan results, with certain trends highlighted--such as which readings were associated with proximity to a platform terminal.*
