Task Force Argo Incident Report
Waydi Diplomatic Mission
Stardate: 45237

The mission to conduct diplomatic negotiations with the newly identified Waydi species did not go as intended. Attending the negotiations were Lt Sedai, Ambassador A'Printa and Captain Melor. Commander Ne'Pock accompanied the diplomatic team, but his ship, the USS Brunton conducted external scans of the Waydi vessel while the primary diplomatic team beamed aboard. The Waydi had present one ambassador named Cei. The negotiations started off with the Waydi referring to the Federation as an "Empire" and asking about their tactical and military intentions. They made several references to the "Dark Wave" who had destroyed the "Guardians" another species that had visited the Waydi several thousand years before. The Waydi had drawn the conclusion that the Federation was this "Dark Wave" and that the negotiation team was their vanguard, intent on conquering the Waydi people. Later it was made evident that the Waydi were led to believe this by the Klingon Empire, and that the Klingons were planning to conduct an ambush during the negotiations.

The diplomatic team attempted to explain that this was not the case, and it became evident that Ambassador Cei believed the negotiators but that he was unable to stop the Klingon attack. As the diplomatic team prepared to leave, several Klingon boarding parties beamed into the Waydi ship. The negotiators had to fight their way back to the pattern enhancers in order to beam off the Waydi ship. Ambassador Cei was last seen in the negotiation room and it is presumed he died in the crossfire of the initial fight with the Klingon boarding parties.

Once back on their respective ships, the negotiation task force found themselves surrounded by a larger Klingon Fleet. Another battle ensued in an attempt to get clear of the system and warp out. During the battle, the USS Brunton, Captained by Commander Ne'Pock, sustained significant damage and the ships anti-matter containment field failed. It was destroyed, all hands presumed dead.

Klingon communications during the space battle indicated that they had made contact with the Waydi between the initial contact with the freighter and the diplomatic meeting. This supported what ambassador Cei had stated happened. During the space battle, the Waydi ship warped out of the system. At this time it is unclear if the Waydi are intentionally supporting the Klingon empire or if they have been tricked or subjugated.

We are awaiting further orders from Starfleet Command on actions in that system.
