Just one of many news reports that one might hear the droning voices of newscasters reading.
Casperians were struck by tragedy today when a malfunction during a flight drill turned an already bad situation into a worse one.
According to Starfleet officials, flight squadron Epsilon was engaging in a practice run of a routine they were scheduled to perform for the opening ceremonies of the upcoming peace conference. The squad's routine took them over Zyngetan Embassy, where they were planning to execute the majority of their maneuvers.
But in the midst of their drills, an Air Casperia pleasure tour cruiser also entered the air space. The cruiser's crew was unaware that the tour's flight paths had been altered for the morning and a malfunction in their sensor equipment prevented them from realizing the danger present. The precise details are as yet unclear, but one of the Epsilon ships was unable to maneuver out of the way and collided headlong into the cruiser, causing a complete loss of control for both ships.
The Embassy's north and west wings, which housed the diplomatic and medical services respectively, were decimated in the resultant crash-landing. An estimated twelve hundred civilians were killed and another five hundred wounded, most of them staff at the Embassy.
More details about what exactly went wrong with the navigation systems of the various involved aircraft will be revealed as we receive them...
