AAR: Waydi Distress Call & Meeting

Stardate: 89646.5Report Submitted: Lt. Hob, U.S.S. Semmelweis

Ambassador Nee'Pah'Cei called several senior task force personnel to the conference room to discuss the developing situation with the Waydi. After the attending officers had gathered, the ambassador explained that the Waydi had requested another meeting with Starfleet representatives, and that a date for the meeting had been set, but that Argo Ops had received a distress signal from a Waydi shuttle, which indicated that the Klingons occupying the Waydis system had discovered the meeting. The present captains scrambled their ships to respond to the distress call.

Upon arriving at the Waydi shuttle's location, our ships' sensors detected numerous Klingon warships attacking both the Waydi shuttle and a Klingon shuttle. Due to the number of enemy warships, their aggression, and the fact that neither shuttle had been destroyed before we arrived, it is apparent that the swift response of all captains involved played a major part in salvaging the operation.

All ships engaged immediately, drawing the enemy warships' attention away from the shuttles and toward ourselves. The battle that ensued was brief and fierce, with significant damage being dealt to the U.S.S. Belleau Wood and the U.S.S. Alamaris. Due to the overwhelming force of our combined ships, however, we were successful in driving the Klingon aggressors out.

After this, the captain of the Klingon shuttle requested our representatives come aboard. Cautiously, an away team was selected and beamed aboard. Commander Robert volunteered to lead a security escort for the away team and beamed aboard first in case of ambush. When the situation proved initially peaceful, the remaining away team officers beamed aboard the Klingon shuttle.

The Away team consisted of Counselor Katriel Sedai, Ambassador Nee'Pah'Cei, Doctor Quinn Mallory, and a security escort.

The Klingon captain revealed herself to be Karga of House Garn and indicated that her house was in rivalry with House Kartain, lead by Erak, and that House Kartain was responsible for the plundering of the Waydis system. Karga told the away team that House Garn could not let House Kartain claim the glory for successfully plundering Waydis as that would have disastrous consequences for House Garn. She indicated her desire to work with Starfleet, however grudgingly, to ensure the downfall of her rival.

The Waydi ambassador, who was also aboard the Klingon shuttle, requested that we set aside our antagonistic relationship with the Klingon Empire and work with House Garn.

At this point, I would like to mention that telepathic translators were provided and that they functioned admirably for their first field test. The translation was far from perfect, but that the translators did, in fact, function should not be overlooked.

Negotiations were cut short as sensors picked up a second wave of Klingon warships decloaking on our position. All away team members returned to their respective ships and a second battle began.

Benefiting from the element of surprise, the second Klingon battle group was able to seriously damage the U.S.S. Reliance, the R.R.W. Bloodwing, the U.S.S. Semmelweis, and the U.S.S. Yorkshire. Casualties were also reported from all ships, including both the U.S.S. Reliance's weapons officer and Chief Petty Officer Decker, who took said officer's station afterward. Nevertheless, the Klingons were repulsed, and both the House Garn and the Waydi shuttles escaped to safety.

All Starfleet ships returned to Outpost Argo, with the exception of the U.S.S. Belleau Wood, which remained to provide assistance to several damaged shuttles at the meeting point. At the Outpost, the senior officers gathered to discuss our next move. While en route, approximately 50% of casualties sustained during the fighting were treated and able to return to active duty, including CPO Decker. The presence of Doctor Quinn Mallory is appreciated and proved invaluable at this time.

Propositions for how to address the clearly deteriorating situation in the Waydis system were put forth by several officers, and most present eagerly volunteered for key tasks. Commander Shiarrael tr'Khnialmnae suggested that certain Reman officers under her command might prove useful in monitoring the situation in the Waydis system, and that the Bloodwing's cloaking capability might also be useful in getting personnel into the system. Commander Robert volunteered to lead a ground strike force in the liberation efforts. Ultimately, Ambassador Nee'Pah'Cei determined to bring several of the proposals, some involving cooperation with House Garn and some not, to Starfleet Command for review.
