Lieutenant Commander Nim,
Effective immediately (stardate 95153.2), you are appointed Chief Security Officer of Deep Space 13. This message notifies you, your departmental colleagues, and the command staff of the starbase of your appointment. In addition, you have been granted residency, security access, and privileges commensurate with your new position.
Although you have not worked with me in the past, you will find that I prefer to be kept apprised of the station's security status. Like you, I take regulations very seriously, and your interview suggests that faithful adherence to protocol will be represented in the way that you run your own department.
In addition, in response to recent events at Deep Space 13, I expect your department to take a more active role in command decisions than has heretofore been customary at the station, and to provide me with fulsome and frequent reports and briefing related to our security state. Going forward, you will meet with me privately at least once a week along with our Chief of Intelligence to discuss measures we can take to further establish the security of the starbase and the wider sector.
Because of the massive casualties sustained by the security department during the battle at the station between the Azedi and Junayd forces, which also claimed the life of our previous Chief of Security, there have been major personnel changes in the Security department. Consequently, the Operations department, reporting to station command, is currently engaged in a routine audit of the Security department to be completed no later than stardate 95246.6. You are directed to assist CMDR Hanson to facilitate that audit's expedient and accurate conclusion.
