Tessa draws her left arm back, swinging her right arm towards Lir's punch, in an attempt to deflect it. Assuming that's successful, her left palm slams forward, into Lir's sternum.
Training or not, Lir is still an ameteur fighter. That open palm slams forward into her chest, sending her reeling backwards, coughing in surprise. It does, however, have the silver lining of driving the reality of the fight home for the until-then unsure Romulan girl. Her stance is quick to reset, still defensive, but she stays lighter on her feet rather than digging in, arms raised in the event Tessa decides to press her attack.
