Jan 5: The Crusade, part 9

KDF and allies close ranks and head into the nebula to shut down the Breen trilithium weapon research facility for good.

When: Saturday, Jan 5, Beta +1

Audience: Klingon and allies

Event type: Bridge RP

Starting point: Starship bridge

OOC point of contact: @gulremal
Spoiler: Mission logShow
[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> It's been almost a day as the KDF and allies (TM) have entered the nebula in the pursuit of the breen mobile weapon facility. Travel is slow due to the size of the force and constant detours

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - necessary to evade the most dangerous gas and radiation pockets and other unhealthy phenomena.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Raider ships, led by Egzo, are in the lead, navigating and leading the bigger ships that follow at some distance.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> More hours pass until they finally catch the signs of the breen presence...

Egzo@HF_Mudd stops drumming his fingers on the arm of his command chair and sits up straight(ish) in it.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "We're picking up some Breen warp trails ahead. They're faint, but we should be able to catch up to their position within the hour."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "'Bout time."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Hope this nebula is messing up their sensors as it is ours. We could definitely use the surprise advantage."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Don't bet on it. They've been here a while, long enough t' adjust."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "The thing is, shall we try approaching under the cloak, or go in guns blazing?"

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Yeah. They probably know the place well by now."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "There's only so much they can do to compensate though, and they probably won't see us coming, especially if we try to do it stealthily.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "I think we can still sneak up on them."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Sure, let's give it a shot."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: *nods* They might not know you guys have some reinforcements."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "However, once we come in close, there might not be the time to discuss the tactic in detail. Egzo, how would you go about this?"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Raiders screen for Daramar, go after any escorts they got. Big D faces off with the carrier if it's around, then pounds their base t' scrap."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Shields won't do anythin' for either side, so we gotta go with speed an' armor."

Kayd@anncarise nods, "Agreed."

Egzo@HF_Mudd reminds the boss, "Yer gonna take some hits."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: *nods* I guess it's destiny of any big ship I fly to do so. We'll be running hull plate polarization and SIF reinforcements

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Taking out that carrier will be the main focus, just keep the small fries off us."

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods again. "You got it."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Our deflector tricks should be able to keep some of them at bay."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: IKS K'p'on and OSS Vilad will support us. Vilad has a good fighter complement on their own, that should tie up some of their fighters. Fortunate fate will stay back support us with their artillery -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - barrage and will take in heavily damaged raiders.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Use whatever tricks you have. And if you take too much damage, fall back to the Fortunate Fate."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Good to have someone covering us this time."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Figure they've had time since our last fight t' fix up the carrier, but they might not've replaced all the fighters yet."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: ** Egzo will have Heras and Bara on his wing, while Kayd will have Lexi and Daramar's new parasite craft as wingmen

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Well, let's work with the presumption they are back at full strength, maybe even some reinforcements. Everyone ready?"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Yeah."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "All prepped here."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "All right, let's get this over with then."

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods, and waits for a report of solid contact from sensors.

Kayd@anncarise readies Kayeri Vaj's systems as they await arriving in weapons range.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: ** sensor tolls

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: *rolls

[Emotes] Kayd@anncarise: rolls 2 (1-100)

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: ...

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 64 (1-100)

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: Dammit the sensors require tolls now

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: I didn't bring enough latinum

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Damn, the rads in this nebula are still messing with our sensors..."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: | "Breen signatures, dead ahead. They've... dropped from warp," Shlaak reports.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: | "And... energy discharges? Could be a storm, or a fight."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Fight? With who?"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: | Shlaak shakes his head. "I'm only picking up Breen, boss."

Egzo@HF_Mudd hmms, then thumbs the armrest. <C> One minute, mark.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Weapons charged, defenses up. Let's join the party."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> In less than a minute, squadron exits warp, and arrives at the scene of battle.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> To their starboard, massive asteroid base with a well-known breen carrier just above it, is exchanging fire with...well another breen group.

Kayd@anncarise | Kayeri Vaj is in energy masking mode, not as effective as cloaks but still extremely difficult to spot especially in this nebula.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Huh. Looks like it really was fighting."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> On the port side, breen task force consisting of one full fledged battleship supported by 4 wings, each consisting of one cruiser/warship and 3 raiders, is -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - moving in to encircle the base.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "I haven't dealt with the Breen much. Is it common for their different groups to fight one another? Like Klingon house feuds?"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Been known t' happen. Sometimes."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "A torpedo that can blow up a star might do it."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Yeah, probably."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Base is projecting powerful shielding over the carrier who has started launching it's remaining fighter wings. Asteroid base itself sports multiple defense turrets and torpedo launcher. However -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - it doesn't take an expert to realize it will not last long...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: ** more sensor rolls plox

Kayd@anncarise scans for signs of the star-killer torpedo.

[Emotes] Kayd@anncarise: rolls 73 (1-100)

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Speakin' of. Shlaak! Any a' those cutters packin' trilithium?"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: | Egzo's science Gorn checks his console again...

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 37 (1-100)

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: reciprocal *and* add to 110 :)

[Tell] Sadia@gulremal: there's trilithium signatures on the base, but no one else

Egzo@HF_Mudd | "Just the base, looks like."

Egzo@HF_Mudd mms and nods. "Put another tick in the 'fightin' over the big boom' column, maybe."

Kayd@anncarise forwards everyone a symbol of a white circle with two icy-blue blades inside, "This look familiar to anyone? Looks like the emblem of the other group but I'm not getting a match in any database searches."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> It would seem that two out of twelve raiders in the attacker's group have fallen back after sustaining serious damage in the opening phase of the fight.

Egzo@HF_Mudd looks it over. "Nuttin' I know."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Never seen it before, must be some of the merc groups or the breen states we didn't hear about...yet.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Unknown party...that's problematic. Lots of variables we can't predict."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Maybe we should wait and see," she looks to Egzo. "You said only the base had trilithium signatures, right?"

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods, "Yeah."

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: this si weird, i am chatting here just fine but I can't access literaly anything else on the webs

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Might be a good idea to wait it out. Our goal is to get rid of the weapons, not kill all Breen in the sector. If these newcomers just destroy the station and move on, they do our job for us."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "If they try to salvage the torpedoes after disabling the base, then we can strike. They'll be a lot weaker then too."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Might be an argument for an element of surprise showing up as a third party, but we'd also be caught in a crossfire, and us not being Breen..."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Who knows, they might just set aside their differences and all focus on us. Easier if one party's finished off."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "In that case, we better fall back a bit, some of the ships here don't have cloak."

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods again. "Yeah."

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: Sometimes Egzo is surprisingly articulate, usually about engineering or killing. Sometimes, it's just grunted monosyllables like most Nausicaans people are used to.

Kayd@anncarise | Kayeri Vaj begins slowly backing off, keeping sensors peeled for developments on the fight.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "In the case we do have to take out the other party, let's try to keep at least one of their ships in salvagable condition. If we don't know anything about this group, then we need intel."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "My girls can probably crack their encryptions, but we're going to need an intact computer core to play with."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "No promises. Breen ain't in the habit of leavin' much."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Yeah...they tend to self-destruct if they're about to be captured, don't they..."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Let's hope we can get something. But main focus is actually beating them if it comes down to it of course."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Can't learn anything if we're dead."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Battle rages as the attacking force closes in, pummeling that station's shields. One cruiser and two more raiders fall to the return fire. Carrier turns it's undamaged side to the main attack -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - group and it's deflectors generate a gravitic disturbance on the nearest enemy wing.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "Okay, these Breen definitely learned from our last encounter with them."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> At this point the attacking battleship joins the fray, firing it's main front heavy polaron cannons and launching a barrage of the transphasic torps.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Pfft, like you're th' only one who knows that trick."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: "To be fair it is a pretty common trick."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Base shields flicker and drop, leaving the carrier without it's main defenses. Enemy wings focus fire on the carrier and it soon goes down in flames, exploding and spraying the upper parts of -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - asteroid base. Base itself keeps firing with all it's got, focusing on enemy cruisers, taking out two of them before raiders start picking of the turret emplacements one by one.

Egzo@HF_Mudd grins viciously as the carrier is destroyed, even though it wasn't by his hand.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Two more raiders fall to the station's defenses before it's completely defenseless, and as the ramining cruiser and battleship start launching assault shuttles...

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Awright, stand by... if they beam the warheads aboard after knockin' down the shields, we need t' be ready to pounce before they warp out with their new toys.

Kayd@anncarise nods and gives orders to her offscreen crew to get ready for the Kayeri to engage.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Prolly won't use transporters, though... THAT's how unstable tri-L is. Buys us a little more time.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> They'll have t' take the station, secure the warheads, move 'em across the regular way.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> ... be a real shame if /someone/ was to blow up that rock while they was in the middle a' that.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> You're right, and we ain't going to give them the time. Fortunate Fate and Vilad will stay back and prepare to fire on the given coordinates. Rest of us, move in from the other side of the base -

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Good plan."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - target the same general location at the heart of the base. We blow that thing up and stare the mofos down.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> If they want to fight, we'll give it to them.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> If'n you want some intel, Kayd-ee, now's the time to try t' grab some 'fore it's all in lotsa little pieces.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Think we can get it out without alerting them to our plan?"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Wouldn't bet on it. May just have t' settle for siftin' through what's left.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Yeah. Don't think it's worth the risk right now."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Thought I'd warn ya, though.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> As the most of the raiders back away to assist the damaged ships that can still be salvaged, breen battleship and cruiser move closer and continue launching assault shuttles.

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Thanks. Kayeri Vaj is moving into position."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: First wave breaches one of the internal docking bays...

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> ... if we're /really/ lucky, the ones who own that base might scuttle...

Egzo@HF_Mudd tenses slightly as he says that, then lets it out when the expected explosion doesn't come. "Huh. Guess /we/ gotta do this the hard way too."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> All right then, move in and prepare to fire. Egzo, you'll have the honors to start the fireworks.

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: so, egzo, kayd and sadia's group. no need for rounds, just describe what your wing is doing and gimme a roll

Egzo@HF_Mudd points. "Heras, Bara, stand by t' fire on the base. On three." He counts it off on gloved fingers: "One, two, burn 'em."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-Bara> Torps loaded, cannons hot, let's blow this ugly piece of rock!"

Egzo@HF_Mudd <FX> Hag'lhr decloaks (for what it's worth in this soup) and opens fire, adding a volley of torpedoes (one of them a gravitic warhead) and disruptors to the alpha strike.

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 96 (1-100)

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: I think Egzo just single handedly wiped out the Breen armada...

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: and a plasma torpedo from Heras' warbird, yes? :)

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: Your turn, Kayd. And nah, remember, a base takes a lotta pounding.

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: this is more about doing it quick, and with lots of nice collateral damage to the attackers. :)

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Hag'lhr, Barut and Riesling decloak in unison and lauch their deadly payload. Egzo's and Bara's weapons blasts the solid rock armor -

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: Hehe

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: Base shields are totally gone right?

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - and Heras' plasma high yield torp melts another massive amount of minerals and metals, revealing the innards of the station, forcefields flickering...

Kayd@anncarise <FX> Kayeri Vaj, QanwI' and the parasite craft opens fire on the base, though Kayeri Vaj doesn't try to open fire and uses the old trick of attempting to beam primed torpedoes right onto the base -

Kayd@anncarise - targetting the trilithium signatures for maximum impact.

[Emotes] Kayd@anncarise: rolls 58 (1-100)

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Qanwl' and parasite craft hit the forcefields, which were never meant to withstand direct starship fire and drop immediately. Kayd has no problem beaming high-yield photon -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - torpedoes inside the base. All three ships head out as Kayd traces her finger over the detonation button...

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: (Antimatter is very bad for your day.)

Kayd@anncarise tries to detonate as soon as they're at safe distance.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> A series of detonations bursts from the wounded belly of the station...

[Emotes] Kayd@anncarise: rolls 87 (1-100)

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: Nice.

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: Yay!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Which are a mere matchsticks to the real thing as the unstable trilithium ignites, and creates a small sun .

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Base is practically incinerated, and everyone is blown back as gases in the nebula ignite too, wrecking quite a chaos...

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "That's done it! Everyone get clear!"

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: ** piloting rolls plox

[Emotes] Kayd@anncarise: rolls 95 (1-100)

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: oh wow my rolls are getting better

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: Soon I shall become invincible

[Team] Kayd@anncarise: (watch my next one be a 1)

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 92 (1-100)

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: yeah, that's right, we're awesome.

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: *flies away from explosion, wearing sunglasses, not looking back*

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Raiders ride the waves of fires and explosions like a wave. Bigger ships didn't have it as easy, but no one suffers any catastrophic damage...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Cynis her-...-port!"

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Kayd here, my group is good! How're you holding up?"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Hag'lhr, clear and in one piece. Barut an' Riesling still tucked in tight.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Lookin' a little crispy 'round the edges there, Boss.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Glad to hear that...we've got some of that blast, but luckily had the smallest profile facing the thing...some front armor will need replacing.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-FF> Fortunate Fate here. We and your Orion allies are fine, they hid behind us while our armor soaked the damage. I never saw a ship move so fast...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-FF> Erm we are detecting some breen signatures leaving the area towards the galactic west.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Any trilithium?"

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-FF> Our sensors are not showing any amounts of that compound...good. It's downright scary...

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Not much harm in them running away empty handed. This is from the new party we can't identify right?"

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-Vilad> OSS Vilad here, Magren L'Shinie commanding. We can confirm that no trilithum left the area. Your attack was quite...thorough, to say the least.

Egzo@HF_Mudd grins like a madman.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-Vilad> Unfortunately, all the active breen ships managed to escape, aside from damaged ones that were finished by the explosion.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Not necessarily a bad thing. The star-killer torpedoes might've started this civil conflict but there's no guarantee destroying the base ended it."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "If we're lucky, these groups of Breen might continue to be at each other's throats."

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "And if their ships are fighting the Breen that's engaged with us, that's good news for us."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: Yes, I though Amoniri recruited more allies to fight on their side, not against them.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Maybe they put their faith in the wrong people."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: I guess not everyone got the memo, or there's some internal power play we are not aware of.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Somethin' to look into."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: *nods* But not today. Let's pack up and head home.

[Local] Kayd@anncarise: <C> "Yeah. Not much wreckage left here to get intel from..."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-FF> We will head back to Brionii. But we will talk soon.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-FF> Thank you again for your help. I hope next time we meet under less...world-shattering circumstances. Fortunate Fate out.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: -- SCENE END --
