SUBJECT’S NAME: S’Slaask
INTERVIEW STARDATE: ((1 Aug 2016))

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority would like to register that she has always been impressed, and continued to be so through this interview, with the subject’s extraordinarily patient and polite mannerisms. This may be a symptom of being one of the very few of his species that is generally considered fairly intimidating to the average Federation citizen, as he suffers quietly through the unintentional microaggressions others leave upon sighting him. Though he is capable of not taking the slights personally, he is forced to maintain a constant awareness of who he is and his potential for damaging the relatively fragile people and things surrounding him.

Despite all this, subject appears to be quite satisfied with his life as it is presently and though he does occasionally miss the company of his kin, he appears to have carved out a niche for himself in the meantime. Subject enjoys being intellectually challenged and possesses a mild sense of humor that he isn’t afraid to demonstrate. He does retain a healthy level of self-confidence, unbothered by the possibility that others do not share his tastes. Subject’s outlook on life and those around him is, however, extremely neutral, likely feeding into his ability to remain patient and reserve judgement until he knows more about any given situation.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

During the interview, subject expressed herself directly and efficiently. Most of her responses were short or curt, addressing the literal interpretation of the questions she was asked. This often prompted multiple follow up questions, which the subject answered in similar fashion. While certainly efficient, authority has some concerns this tendency may frustrate others she works with or elongate the process of receiving all critical information during her duty shifts.

Subject exhibits an external locus of control, seeing events as things which happen to her, often outside of her control. While open and willing to learn and improve herself, she may be unwilling to seek advice from others when personal problems arise. She appears unsure of her social and emotional support network. To the subject, social situations are viewed as tactical in nature and often transactional. In a similar vein, subject does not feel comfortable expressing contradictory opinions to her superior officers, unless she believes it vital; she simply follows orders. Despite this, subject does have an overall optimistic view of others.

It is of Authority’s opinion subject would benefit from a Commanding Officer who puts her in situations where she is required to solve problems without direct orders from her superior. This will not only highlight any improvements she needs to make - which will be readily undertaken by the subject - but also begin to shift her locus of control from external to internal, increasing her confidence and effectiveness as a Starfleet Officer.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject is in possession of an eminently friendly and amiable manner, prone to smiling and not afraid to laugh at items he finds amusing. Subject treated the interview with a professional level of focus, giving thoughtful responses while simultaneously never abandoning his more casual air. He frequently found ways to lighten the discussion and moved easily between topics of varying emotional sensitivity. Subject can be mildly self-deprecating for the sake of humorousness, but authority saw no evidence that he suffers from any actual low self-esteem issues.

Subject has a clear preference for informality where plausible and has few stringent demands on the officers he works with, preferring simply that they be motivated by the gain of knowledge and joy of discovery. He trends towards moderate optimism and positivity, tilting slightly towards an externalized locus of control. Subject’s worldview and perception on the motivations of others is generally balanced, neither too positive or negative.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Previously demonstrated symptoms of trauma were significantly reduced or eliminated altogether. Subject professes to experience minor bouts of anxiety in a variety of situations, which occur a bit more frequently than authority would like, but not frequent enough to mandate use of medication, even if subject were amenable to it. Subject is eager to return to duty and seems eminently prepared to do so.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Determine subject’s state of mental health for restoration to active duty.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of insufficient mental health and therefore not fit for active duty at this time.

Re-evaluation recommended in one month.

Strongly recommending weekly counseling with PTSD specialist. Authority will also be placing subject on priority medical holodeck-use list.

DISCUSSION

Subject demonstrated several pronounced symptoms of continued trauma, including unsteady voice, frequent stutter, and avoiding eye contact. Subject’s experience during internment left him feeling largely like a hindrance, though he does not specifically regret any actions, and he remains anxious about any undiscovered effects of the neural probing.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Determine subject’s state of mental health for resuming active duty.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty, with reservations.

DISCUSSION

At this time, authority acknowledges that subject’s case is a unique one and therefore difficult to assess by any normal standards for Starfleet personnel. Authority observes that the subject produces no discernable emotional output, which suggests the subject is unlikely to be governed by the cultural emotional norms and cues that sentients usually rely on to guide their own behavior.

Authority’s assessment is that the subject’s critical lack of self-awareness became evident over the course of the interview. Though he claimed that a lack of inability to ‘properly communicate’ with fellow officers to be the primary cause of conflicts, his responses on the BFI-2 conversely claim that he has above average conscientiousness. Apart from this, authority found it notable that the subject was unable to definitively state if he could act for the good of a social group, contrary to his own individual need.

Subject’s responses on other questions indicate that he seems to possess a primarily optimistic and positive worldview, with a heavily externalized locus of control. Remaining BFI-2 scores indicate an above average openness to experience, average extraversion, and a significantly below average negative emotionality.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject started interview with a mild degree of anxiety, but her countenance was otherwise mostly cheerful and her attitude prepared. Subject consistently demonstrated a thoughtful nature, clearly taking time to think over most of her responses. She was not reticent with her replies in any sense, but neither did she ever begin to share more than was necessary to answer the question posed. Authority also observes that the subject possesses a streak of curiosity for novelty and discovery, which led to her acceptance of her current posting on station. Subject abhors politics and likely favors more straightforward approaches.

Subject trends moderately optimistic, but with a fairly neutral view of the world and the motivations of others. Locus of control is slightly more internal than external. BFI-2 scores: High openness to experience and agreeableness. Moderate conscientiousness, negative emotionality, and extraversion.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

One of authority’s immediate observations of subject was that he takes his fun quite seriously. Subject’s facial expressions are animated and frequently lighthearted, accompanied by a relaxed and casual, almost unflappable attitude. Subject also seems to possess an unflinching streak, as he seems happy to plow into potentially high conflict situations as if they are every day occurrences. Authority hesitates to go as far as to say that the subject is impetuous or unthinking; rather it seems more as though he approaches all problems with a confident zeal. Subject seems most engaged with hands-on activities and disciplines, but he does not eschew intellectual pursuit either.

Subject trends towards fairly strong optimism, with more moderately positive views of the world and the motivations of others. Subject’s locus of control is mostly external. BFI-2 scores: high agreeableness, negative motionality, and extraversion. Moderate openness to experience and conscientiousness. Subject’s emotional support network seems satisfactory.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject came into interview feeling very comfortable from the start, deploying a quick and ready sense of humor and cheerfully relaxed facial expressions. His easy manner and fond references to his former colleagues lead the authority to believe that the subject will have few issues settling in and making his way. Subject shows a marked conscientiousness and understanding for the ‘big picture’, especially with respect to diplomacy, which authority feels will come in very useful in the subject’s line of work. Authority also observed subject’s penchant for being candid, even when it might not be the right time for it.

Authority does note that the subject has some very mild reservations as to his own capacity for developing a new social circle in his new station, leading authority to consider that the subject may seem and appear quite easygoing, but still keeping some small parts of himself in reserve. Subject acknowledges he might be a little naive in the degree of optimism he applies, but that doesn’tstop him from doing so. Subject trends moderately positive view on the world and the motivations of others, with a balanced locus of control. BFI-2 scores: high on openness to experience, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and extraversion. Low negative emotionality.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject evidenced a minor amount of nervousness at the beginning, which tapered off quickly after interview got under way and was not significant enough to inhibit him from being willing to demonstrate his sense of humor in conversation. Subject’s demeanor otherwise was cordial and attentive, his responses came easily and were pleasantly civil, and he frequently exhibited his keen focus on the upcoming preparation needed to dive into the work of a new command. Authority observed that subject also possesses a particular mindfulness of his crew and their needs. He especially values when others are confident enough to speak their minds and when they’re willing to put in the time to earn his respect.

Subject trends towards fairly moderate optimism and has a generally positive outlook on the world and the motivations of others. Locus of control is balanced, neither too internal nor external. CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty

DISCUSSION

As with this subjects previous interview the subject expressed herself directly. Most answers to questions were either one word or short simple sentences. Follow up questions led to more in-depth answers which gave a better understanding of the patient and the questions that were understanding, showing growth from her previous evaluation.

Subject has a great moral responsibility, despite being in multiple dangerous situations that have threatened herself and others she remains attached to her ideals. The subject has had a tremendous amount of experiences that to others would be traumatising, however the subject appears to be fine as a result of tackling these problems head also likely a result of her being Vulcan.

It is of the Authority’s opinion that the subject has grown much since their last evaluation. They have adapted and are happier with their work than before. Though their work can be a source of great stress and can lead to the subject not being able to be as open with answering questions, the Authority believes that they should continue in their field as it will continue to help them grow as an officer and person to eventually be able to achieve their future goals.

PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Authority observes that she had to spend a significant amount of interview time asking questions simply to understand the subject’s current socioemotional state, which is fairly complex and has very few medical precedents to draw from. Subject alternated between referring to himself as ‘I’ and ‘we’, evidence of the lack of clean disengagement between sense of self and his cooperative. While the authority empathizes with the subject’s decision to remain in his cooperative, there is some mild cause for concern if the eventual goal is for the cooperative units to separate and live individual lives.

Subject was capable of expressing his emotions visually, to a degree, sometimes smiling, sometimes twisting his features in mild distress, and occasionally these actions seem more practiced than familiar. Subject’s verbal communication style was also unusual and sometimes unclear; authority speculates that perhaps he is a bit too reliant on his connection with his cooperative that when he needs to interact with those outside of it, he potentially forgets to provide more context or information on what he’s communicating.

Subject trends towards mild optimism and moderately positive in world view and the motivations of others. Subject’s locus of control is more external than internal. BFI-2 scores: high openness to experience and conscientiousness, moderate agreeableness and extraversion, low negative emotionality.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

The subject exhibits indications of uncertainty and mild anxiety relating to his first command assignment. He expresses insecurities about his senior officers’ appraisals of his experience and age, and about his own readiness to face the challenges of his new post. These emotions, while detrimental to optimal performance, are common among new command officers. The subject appears to be coping with these anxieties and their attendant stress in a rational and mature manner.

The subject attributes his emotional discipline to a trauma therapy program undertaken during childhood. This measure was taken to help the subject adapt to the absence of his father, Capt. Oliver Macginnis, whose Starfleet file is flagged as Missing In Action. Future counseling sessions should explore this topic in greater detail.

CONCLUSION

DISCUSSION

The subject appears to be adjusting well to the unfamiliar customs and cultures of Starfleet. He understands his purpose to be one of discovery and outreach on behalf of his people, in addition to the duties of his role as security officer. The subject is engages with his role in a thoughtful and conscientious manner, seemingly informed by his experience in a similar peacekeeping role on his homeworld.

The subject exhibits particular interest in the habits of Romulans and Dominion client species due to reports he has received of tensions between their respective factions. He speaks of this cultural research and observation in terms of social responsibility, yet it seems evident that his curiosity is an intrinsic quality. This may be one reason why the subject volunteered to join Starfleet in the first place.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject’s demeanor throughout interview was altogether pleasant, professional, and calm. He frequently gave an easygoing smile with his responses, which sometimes seemed more reflexive than a pure indicator of amusement. Nevertheless, his replies were generally earnest and were regularly precluded by a pensive moment. Authority also detected an undercurrent of conviction in the subject’s feelings regarding his own potential and that of his ship and crew. The authority observed that the subject has yet to feel strongly challenged or particularly tested with his command thus far, and though he’s not ungrateful to have the opportunity to acclimate at his own pace, subject also seems more than ready to actualize his role.

Subject trends neutral, neither optimistic nor pessimistic, in his world view and on the motivations over others, but has a strong sense of self and trust in his emotional support network. Locus of control is balanced, perhaps leaning slightly more internal. BFI-2 scores: high openness to experience, agreeableness, conscientiousness and extraversion; low negative emotionality. PURPOSE AND CONTEXT OF EVALUATION

Basic Profile Assessment

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject is in possession of a profile that is not dissimilar from many incoming junior officers. Subject has no set long-term plans, with the focus currently on getting used to the current job and everything around it. Subject has approached the assessment seriously and with a degree of nervousness not uncommon for first time assessments. Following some candor and conversation, subject was more keen to open up and be willing to be far more gregarious. Anxious, but honest.

Subject’s motivations seem to stem from a strained familial situation at the subject’s previous home, matched with a desire to depart from that setting as much as possible. That being said, whilst the subject’s familial situation may be strained, the subject also places significant weight upon friendships. This leads authority to believe that the subject will seek to supplement any perceived lack of a social circle with co-workers or other associates.

Subject has voiced considerable sense of fulfillment from her duties, oftentimes citing that her potential is properly being fulfilled. Subject also voiced a sense of importance to her work as well. This is matched with a voiced opinion that Subject’s living standards and setting are substantively improved.

Authority recommends a follow-up on Subject’s view on the aforementioned topics, as Subject’s views are liable to substantively change once she has acclimated to her environment and been exposed to new people and ideas common in such a setting.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

During interview, subject demonstrated an unqualified enthusiasm for her new duty posting and environment. She appeared highly motivated to perform at her best and, perhaps, was a bit on the impressionable side, as she was keen to immerse herself in her new experiences. Though she is driven with specific goals, she maintains a realistic awareness of her capacity by leaving herself room to adjust before taking on additional responsibilities. Subject has a strong sense of self and though subject’s demeanor was unquestionably warm and amicable, authority has the sense that she may not be as indiscriminately open as she first appears.

Subject trends strongly optimistic in worldview, but more neutral in her perceptions on the motivations of others. Subject is secure in her emotional support network. CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject appears to be in a midway point between acclimation from her point of origin and having fully acclimated to Starfleet. Subject cites considerable differences between her own species and her life in Starfleet, and her answers to several behavioral questions alter depending on which setting she finds herself in.

These different experiences (and reactions to them) are coupled with years of experience having already been in Starfleet. Subject comes from a society in which people are taken at face value and are extremely open due to shared thoughts. Subject does not seem to view relationships in Starfleet to be of the same openness. Subject would benefit from being placed in situations in which inter-personnel relationships are important for success. Trust exercises and trust building would likely provide the most substantive results.

Ultimately, it would appear that the subject is well acclimated and suited to serving in her current role. She has an optimism that’s suitable for a Starfleet officer and a willingness to have new experiences.

CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject presented a mild and mellow manner during interview and seemed to strike the balance between professional formality and casual comfort. His responses, which were periodically preceded by thoughtful pauses, were altogether candid and very thorough, while still remaining succinct. Subject seems extremely well bonded with his senior staff and is comfortable with a commander’s implicit mentoring role. Subject also displays particular traits of resilience, adaptivity, and proactiveness. The latter of these, by his own admission, comes from an earlier lifestyle of indulging in too much inertia.

Subject does possess a mild streak of ambition and has clear goals of what he’d like to achieve. Subject trends moderately optimistic and neutral to moderately positive on the motivations of others. Subject’s locus of control is high external. BFI-2 scores: high openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion. Moderate agreeableness, negative emotionality. Subject’s familial support network is lacking; however, authority recognizes that the subject has already accepted these circumstances and has therefore moved on to form more supportive connections since then, so authority has no concerns here.

DISCUSSION

Subject presented a placid and self-possessed manner at interview, which was very occasionally broken by a small smile. Subject’s responses were both ready and straightfoward. A considerably private person, subject feels her internal state is only for her and those close to her to know. She is very high achieving and values intellectual pursuit, though this has come at the expense of her confidence in her social skills. CONCLUSION

Authority finds subject to be of sound mental health and fit for active duty.

DISCUSSION

Subject is a well-tempered individual with substantial situational awareness and logical decision-making.

Subject is a well-mannered individual, keen to establish good relations with his present and future colleagues. Rather than seeking to individually outshine his Starfleet counterparts and MACO colleagues, the Captain seems to seek teamwork and cooperation with a perception of the bigger picture often vacant in people that usually occupy his position.

Subject’s ‘big picture’ worldview is applied ubiquitously in all questions and answers of the interview. Whether more grand or abstract, or pertaining to a specific situation, Subject considers those around him in all determinations. Subject’s character is best captured by the following quote uttered during the interview. “It’s vital that you know where everyone stands. Even if it doesn’t change your mind, you have to know how you’ll affect those around you.” This might also indicate well-developed emotional intelligence, but further assessments would be required before reaching a concrete determination.

Overall, subject has a very strong capacity to maintain one’s own health, social relationships, and loyalty of those around and under him. Though this is coupled with a lack of overwhelming ambition usually common in similar individuals. Subject seems to derive happiness from his current situation, and while promotional aspirations may be considered, do not appear to be the crux of Subject’s planning. Subject seems to seek social harmony more, administering to the concerns of those around him.

Overall, Subject is in good mental health, and may even be a positive influence on those around him as well.
