Subject presented a mild and mellow manner during interview and seemed to strike the balance between professional formality and casual comfort. His responses, which were periodically preceded by thoughtful pauses, were altogether candid and very thorough, while still remaining succinct. Subject seems extremely well bonded with his senior staff and is comfortable with a commander’s implicit mentoring role. Subject also displays particular traits of resilience, adaptivity, and proactiveness. The latter of these, by his own admission, comes from an earlier lifestyle of indulging in too much inertia.

Subject does possess a mild streak of ambition and has clear goals of what he’d like to achieve. Subject trends moderately optimistic and neutral to moderately positive on the motivations of others. Subject presented a placid and self-possessed manner at interview, which was very occasionally broken by a small smile. Subject’s responses were both ready and straightfoward. A considerably private person, subject feels her internal state is only for her and those close to her to know. She is very high achieving and values intellectual pursuit, though this has come at the expense of her confidence in her social skills. Subject does appear to retain a streak of self-awareness on this and other facets of her own personality and seems to be willing to experiment at change.

Subject trends fairly neutral in world view and moderate in her opinions on others’ motivations. Subject’s current emotional support network is unsatisfactory, but given the surroundings at a new post, there is ample room for this to change. Locus of control is mostly internal. Subject is a well-tempered individual with substantial situational awareness and logical decision-making.

Subject is a well-mannered individual, keen to establish good relations with his present and future colleagues. Rather than seeking to individually outshine his Starfleet counterparts and MACO colleagues, the Captain seems to seek teamwork and cooperation with a perception of the bigger picture often vacant in people that usually occupy his position.

Subject’s ‘big picture’ worldview is applied ubiquitously in all questions and answers of the interview. Whether more grand or abstract, or pertaining to a specific situation, Subject considers those around him in all determinations. Subject’s character is best captured by the following quote uttered during the interview. “It’s vital that you know where everyone stands. Even if it doesn’t change your mind, you have to know how you’ll affect those around you.” This might also indicate well-developed emotional intelligence, but further assessments would be required before reaching a concrete determination.

Overall, subject has a very strong capacity to maintain one’s own health, social relationships, and loyalty of those around and under him. Though this is coupled with a lack of overwhelming ambition usually common in similar individuals. DISCUSSION

Subject spoke with evaluator at length regarding the incident, how it has affected her life, and what is to be done going forward. Evaluator is of the opinion that Ensign Sovum has a strong grasp on her situation and any detriments are entirely temporary. Evaluator recommended that she rekindle friendships to have a strong social circle to assist her in any distress she may face. Furthermore, Ensign Sovum appears to be on the path towards good health without any need for pharmaceutical intervention. Whatever problems may exist presently will likely be solved by her or those she surrounds herself with based on interactions with Evaluator.

Evaluator recommends that any followups related to this matter involve inquiries into her social circles and friendships, as she seems to be able to rely upon them for emotional support and assistance.

At present, no signs were shown of any need to intervene on an official basis either. Evaluator concludes that Ensign Sovum is fit for duty.

During interview, subject consistently presented a collected and unflappable demeanor. Though he typically paused to give thought to his responses before speaking them, his answers were routinely direct, concise, and generally provided no detail that was not explicitly asked for. Subject’s variety of expression was average for his species, though some extremely slight hints of emotion could very rarely be detected. This typicality extends to the subject’s detachment to his own psyche; rather than give his own opinion on a couple topics, the subject preferred to frame his conclusions through a specific Starfleet lens. This does not have to be problematic, as these two mental frameworks (self and Starfleet) likely see significant overlap in most cases; however, it would be beneficial for the subject to remember that they are not the same thing.

Despite her self-assessment as being somewhat impulsive or even undisciplined, her conversational topics indicate that she is capable of deep thought and introspection on matters both academic and not. Subject sought transfer after realizing that she may not have been living up to her full potential and appears to suffer some guilt in feeling like she has squandered her time thus far, but authority observes that she is clearly making up for lost time in her enjoyment of her current work and practical learning. Subject professes that she recognizes that she may have an attitude or personality that other personnel may find grating, which is a pleasant demonstration of self-awareness. Authority’s assessment is that at least during the interview, the subject was largely casually informal, which could be problematic with more traditionally strict supervisors.

Discussion with Subject was one of roles. What role does the Subject see in themself? What role does Starfleet in the grand scheme? What role do junior officers have? What role do his fellow captains have?

Subject sees his ultimate role as that of a soldier. His views are ultimately all given in furtherance of that mindset and a desire to see the world he surrounds himself with conform to it. To him, Starfleet’s role in the galaxy is primarily a military one, with science and exploration to be left as secondary objectives. Junior officers, however capable in other fields, must learn the grittiness of war first and foremost. Senior officers must guide junior officers in that direction.

This provides a dichotomy that leaves the Subject both able to benefit others and be benefited by. Subject certainly speaks with experience on his own military experience and desires, and his presence in the fleet is contributory both as a soldier and as a potential mentor towards others younger and lower ranking than he. He may be able to, and be quite willing to, impart valuable knowledge and skills that would help junior officers in the future.

Simultaneously, it may behoove Subject to be exposed to differing ideas, both from those of his rank and those below him. In contrast to his views, the 38th Fleet does engage in substantially wider operations than those that he places the greatest priority upon. Furthering science or exploration may not involve combat, but avoiding conflict could be one of the important learning experiences of being a captain on the frontier. One of the greatest risks in adopting a role-like approach in the way Subject has is the calcification of thought which authorities should avoid if possible.

To summarize, subject’s view is perhaps entirely made through lenses and roles that he has set for himself. While extremely useful in some cases, in others it may be difficult if another lens may be required. Possibly the subject is not prone towards preoccupation or absentmindness, as he appears to largely stay grounded in the present moment; subject is highly likely to be a proponent of a more ‘go with the flow’ philosophy. Subject does profess to being interested in being challenged and solving problems, which led him to his interest in engineering. He highly values his colleagues and their contributions in teamwork.

Subject is strongly introspective and spends much of her time in analytical observance of the people and systems around her. Accompanied with her willingness to ask questions and accept the advice of others, subject demonstrates self-awareness and a will for self-improvement, as she professes to actively work on motivating herself to step out of her comfort zone.

Subject’s worldview trends more towards the positive side and she is generally more optimistic in her perspective on the motivations of others. Authority observes that subject’s self-confidence levels are perhaps a bit lower than average, although not out of the range of normal parameters for other liberated borg. Interview with the subject was eminently pleasant. Though she occasionally evidenced passing frustration or sadness at the memories raised by particular questions, on the whole she appeared relaxed and comfortable, frequently smiling and chuckling at what is happening in the present moment. Subject rarely had to think long on her answers and strongly appreciated certainty, demonstrating a willingness to divert the flow of conversation to get answers or put in significant extra time in her work for the same. Apart from this strong work ethic, authority noted that subject’s approach to command is refreshingly conventional: an interest in at least an attempt at diplomacy in every encounter, a priority on preserving crew life, and maintaining optimism for mission success.

Authority did not get the opportunity to ask about the subject’s emotional support network, but was satisfied by the subject’s answers on its sufficiency. Subject’s perspective and world view was mostly neutral, but she trended towards mostly positive on the motivations of others. Subject evidenced no nervousness or anxiety at the start of interview, presenting instead as a polite, relatively high energy individual, providing candid and occasionally enthusiastic responses to some questions asked, but occasional hesitancy towards others. Still a younger officer, subject appeared generally guileless and strongly motivated to pursue novel experiences. Such a strong growth-oriented mindset is to be commended, but authority would caution that said pursuit does not come at the expense of regularly pausing to reflect and interpret any given experience’s outcomes, lest it all be reduced to a simple exercise in hedonism.

Subject has been experiencing some friction due to other individuals’ instinctive prejudice against her smaller stature, so the subject is planning to pursue ‘skeletal upgrades’ to better reflect her current age, as well as due to natural deterioration of her original frame. Subject trends moderately positive in terms of worldview and moderately optimistic in her perspective on the motivations of others, though the subject also gave many neutral answers that suggest she has yet to formulate firm opinions on some topics and lacks assertiveness. Her answers were generally to the point and minimal, though not incomplete, and she never paused to overthink a response before giving it. Despite her sometimes sparse responses in the first half of interview, subject required more precision on the Likert scale survey and did not hesitate to respond with such. Subject spoke in an informal manner and did not venture to make light at any time, though she was willing to respond with humor when the situation called for it. Authority notes that subject may have a tendency to reflexively assume more literal meanings when question prompts have potentially multiple interpretations.

Subject noted that she potentially regrets not having spent more of her earlier career in a wider variety of postings, feeling that she has potentially missed out on some wells of experience as a result. Initial cursory questions quickly ran into difficulty. Following typical inquiries into why Subject has chosen to rejoin Starfleet, initial answers were curt, short, and led to natural follow-up questions. Once a request for a specific instance in which Subject found the work rewarding as they had previously enumerated, Subject expressed distrust in either the evaluation process itself or its evaluator. On the basis that the purpose of the evaluation was to establish a baseline assessment and the source of the resistance falls outside the scope, Evaluator chose to redirect towards a more welcome questionnaire.

Subject’s responses are short and often treated reasoning to be self-evident. At the same time, Subject was clear and coherent in answers. It is clear that expected levels of reasoning in answering the wide range of questions does occur and does not incur any particularized concerns from the Evaluator. Socialization is also at a level that shows stability and competence in stressful situations. This is true from both formal answers and informal stimuli involving Evaluator’s tacos.

It is clear that Subject is capable of conducting themselves appropriately, properly rationalizing decisions, and performing duties satisfactorily. Issues may arise when the basis of the decision is questioned or the reasoning is expected to be articulated beyond personal preference.

Whatever concerns exist fail to give rise to any failure of evaluation or bar from service. However, Evaluator does recommend to decision-makers in-depth sessions to address lingering concerns. As stated, it is not expected to substantially impede Subject’s current duties. It must be stressed though that a baseline assessment is necessary but wholly insufficient to address any latent psychological questions.

Subject presented a brisk and, apart from a brief salute, comfortable manner at interview. Subject was transparent about her emotions, unafraid and unembarrassed to bare them to others, and expressing them both physically and verbally. Currently the subject is going through a period of severe lifestyle transition, including major shifts in both career and family focus, so there was understandably an undercurrent of stress and anticipation underscoring most of the discussion, but largely the subject is optimistic and excited about the direction life is taking her. Authority is largely unconcerned, but suggested if she starts to become distracted by her anxiety, coming up with backup life plans in case the first ones fall through might assist with calming them.

When motivation for career change was discussed, subject confessed to a certain level of exhaustion in regards to command and experiences with ‘bad apple’ colleagues that inevitably leave a long lasting impression. Still a believer in Starfleet ideals, subject is hoping to pursue a shift to law, and is accepting that she may sometimes be asked to handle difficult cases or clients in honor of due process.

Subject’s world view is moderately positive and optimistic, but more neutral and almost trending negative regarding her opinion on the motivations of others. Throughout the interview, subject was unfailingly considerate and ever ready to smooth over discussion points by infusing his responses with a casual warmth and cleverness and sometimes self-deprecation. Subject frequently demonstrated amusement and cheer during the conversation. Taken altogether with the previous, it lends the subject an obvious skill with developing rapport with others in every level of acquaintance. Authority additionally observed a level of discomfort when it came to the subject discussing himself and was unsure if this was due to an aversion to any potential for appearing either narcissistic or ambitious or because the subject has difficulty with discussing his self-introspection.

Subject attests that his transfer to station was largely motivated out of feeling a need to step out of his comfort zone, which is remarkably proactive in terms of self-improvement and very laudable, though it may be challenging to maintain. Subject conscientiously seeks a fulfilled and rewarding life of service and aid to others and it’s possible that this has come at the expense of his own social and emotional support, but subject seems to have all the required tools for reversing this course, so authority is cautiously optimistic that this will change with the new environment.

DISCUSSION

Authority’s interview with the subject was characteristically pleasant and relaxed, even when sometimes discussing difficult subjects. In many ways, subject seems unchanged from the early days when authority first met him. He continues to be thoughtful and considerate of professional propriety, happy to indulge in cheerful banter and conversation, and eminently approachable by even those who seem to know him only by reputation. Layered deep under his happy mannerisms, however, subject disclosed that he was enduring a sense of weariness and has been finding it increasingly difficult to take pauses from the work to look up and around him at the world that seems to be passing him by.

Authority recognizes that the subject has always generally kept his cards close to his chest, so to speak, and he often effaces a positive outlook for others while potentially feeling something else internally, making it difficult to form genuine connections with others. Subject was encouraged and agreed to make a concerted effort to seek more social opportunities in order to connect more concretely with other individuals, both new and old alike. As subject has high resiliency, his command is unlikely to be impacted by these developments, but authority ultimately hopes for better than the subject’s simple sufficiency.

Subject trends moderately positive on world view, and more neutral to slightly negative on the motivations of others. Self-esteem levels are on the lower end of the spectrum. DISCUSSION

Some of the impact of the subject’s unique career trajectory can be clearly observed in her attitude and presentation. Subject holds herself with obvious confidence which manifests itself in multiple ways, from the way she delivers easy compliments about those who surround her to her fairly physical style of self-expression. Despite this, subject is mindful of the potential line for arrogance and stated that she doesn’t seek validation from others, which potentially means her habitual flirtatious gestures could be an affectation purely for the benefit of those she’s interacting with.

Many of subject’s responses additionally pointed to a treasured sense of independence, both in her personal life and in professional competence. Subject holds no particular affinity for her family relations, evidently mutually content with their rarely overlapping lifestyles. She was capable of fluidly moving from a lighthearted emotional state to a more serious one and vice versa, neither in denial of difficult moments in her past nor excessively bogged down by them. Most of subject’s answers came easily to her, but subject was reasonably thoughtful with questions where no impulse answer came to mind.

DISCUSSION

Throughout interview, authority primarily noted how subject was brimming with a restless sort of ambition and a distinct desire to prove himself. Subject craves new experiences and the gratification that comes from living those experiences, perhaps also the regard and respect from others that sometimes accompanies that. Subject was candid with his responses and periodically interjected with humor. He was sometimes thoughtful, but there were also multiple times when the subject was caught off guard by authority’s inquiries, evidencing incredulousness or impatience, as if the answers should have been too obvious to warrant the question. Authority suspects it is possible the subject may not indulge in much self-introspection or detailed planning for the future.

Subject currently estranged from surviving family, a topic he was reluctant to dwell on for too long, but appears to be establishing strong ties of friendship. Cited only a few recreational activities and most appear to involve the participation or competition of others, so subject may be a bit over reliant on social connections in order to decompress.

DISCUSSION

During interview, subject was frankly skittish and agitated, actively avoiding eye contact and generally providing terse responses to questions that were asked. While subject’s personal background, young age, and junior rank do provide substantive explanations for this behavior, authority nonetheless saw fit to confront the subject on the necessity of adjusting his expectations to befit those of a Starfleet officer safely amongst his peers.

Subject received said advice with a modicum of embarassment, but also a sort of resigned acknowledgement. Subject would most likely benefit from periodic introspection to honestly assess if he is making progress, as it is often all too easy to let force of habit carry us through our days. Authority otherwise notes that subject possesses a pensive manner and, despite their brevity, generally gave candid answers. Subject is fundamentally cautious, disposed to waiting and anticipating when action may be needed.

Subject’s opinion on the motivations of others is neutral to negative, while his worldview remains neutral. Some of subject’s answers suggested he might have ordinarily been more inclined towards optimism, but personal experiences have retrained him to be reflexively more guarded.
