Possible Computer Core Corruption

Sir,

I’ve been tracking a potential corruption throughout the computer core that appears to be causing buffer exceptions and failed parity checks throughout the entire computer core, in seemingly unrelated systems.

At first I believed the issue to be a simple parity failure and began replacements of the affected isolinear chips, while rare it’s certainly not unheard of for multiple chips to fail simultaneously, especially of this age, but even some of the replacement chips are being affected as well.

The issue first appeared around Zeta shift today, however all files affected appear to have been created since the new year only. I’ve managed to isolate the affected areas of the core so far, it only appears to be temporary and cache arrays which are being affected.

Thankfully, the processing cores are correcting the corrupted datastreams at point of execution, but it’s taxing them, we’ve already registered a 0.6°C temperature increase. I’d appreciate any additional staff we could spare to track down the root cause if possible.

Understood Lieutenant, put together a team and consider this a priority assignment. I will brief the Captain when you have a full report.

Commanders,

I’ve been reviewing the roster for anyone with suitable computer experience and I believe you may be able to assist with the included message chain.

I’ve been attempting to track the source of the corruption as until now I’ve been believing it to be a hardware issue, however it’s becoming increasingly evident the issue lies within soft- or middleware instead.

While the majority of corrupted entries are often being resolved during runtime, we have started to observe minor display and audio corruption, typically being corrected within a refresh cycle or two. Worryingly however, some of the civilian systems aboard have been noted to exhibit similar behaviour.

I’ve verified correct network isolation which is limiting our resultant search to management soft- and middleware. I’ll have to admit some of this low level code is just a bit beyond my expertise so would appreciate any assistance you or your teams could offer.

I WILL FORWARD YOUR PETITION TO MY COMPUTER SERVICES MINIONS, WHO WILL HUNT THIS DEFECT DOWN AND SLAY IT! SOON YOU WILL SLEEP UNTROUBLED BY FAILED PARITY CHECKS, YOUR DREAMS NO LONGER HAUNTED BY BUFFER EXCEPTIONS. THIS CORRUPTING INFLUENCE WILL DIE A QUICK AND INGLORIOUS DEATH AT THE HANDS OF MY TEAM. THIS I VOW TO YOU, MY OLD SISTER IN ARMS.

I doubt anyone can beat a swatch of minions at work, but I am available as necessary. I saw the bit about low level code earlier and I have a decent amount of familiarity with diving that deep if it proves troublesome. That aside, I am likely one of the few computer experts in Science and with my upgraded duties I am more than willing to see what H’ajah’s minions find in their glorious battle before I jump in.

Tl;dr, Ping me, if you need me.~

Commanders,

I thank you both for your assistance and look forward to fighting this foe alongside your computer service minions!

I believe I may have tracked down some of this code however, it appears there is a machine learning algorithm being run from a civilian area of the station, somewhere around deck 25. I was only really able to track it down as it seems that area is serviced by the ODN junction from the habitat ring which were knocked offline briefly during the recent meteor strike, so it is likely somewhere close to the ring arms.

What this algorithm is doing, or how it’s interfering with station operations I am not sure at this time, but I think we should focus our efforts tracking this down before it impacts critical systems.
