LCDR Zolwink,

When you say 'good' at chess, I know you mean 'good for the Brahe', but that's fine. Come by sickbay sometime and I'll help you out with some lessons.

Nice try Doctor but I know this game well enough. It took seven security officers, Commander Ysleb, and an angry vole to catch me last time.

And the vole did most of the work.

The game has begun, Doctor.

Since you wear medical white, I suppose you go first. Then again, this was your first move.

My turn.

SUBJ Incidental Fungus

Captain,

LT Iola Cirova was transporting a fungal sample in an open container and spilled it on LCDR Tiahl. The fungus affected LCDR Tiahl's nervous system and caused a significant loss of sensation in all affected areas. LT Cirova also dismissed LCDR Tiahl's concerns about these effects being caused by the fungus because the fungus did not affect them, and LCDR Tiahl went untreated until LT Jarol noticed her distress and advised sickbay. A biofilter transport cleared LCDR Tiahl of the fungus and cleanup has already been taken care of. LCDR Tiahl was very agitated and had to be sedated during the recovery process.

I'd rather not file a formal complaint against LT Cirova as there was no real harm done, but if the sample had been less cooperative or more aggressive this could have had serious and even deadly repercussions. I recommend we send LT Cirova for a refresher course on the rules and regulations for transportation and interaction with biotic samples. I'm sure between science and engineering there are or could be plenty of inert samples that have to be carried by hand in small quantities for a couple of weeks.

SUBJ RE: Incidental Fungus

Hello Doctor,
Is there any chance it could have spread? Or that it could have come in contact with the Phillyians? Nothing sours a first contact like a plague.

SUBJ Re: Incidental Fungus

Captain,

No. Per the computer's post-decon report the only specimens that spent any time replicating were those in especially high concentrations on various parts of LCDR Tiahl. Those in inhospitable environs (exterior clothing, bulkheads, etc) do not survive long, and the computer did not track any free-floating specimens in or near the transporter room. If we can keep the crew from spilling their science experiments on each other this shouldn't happen again. Want to lay a bet?

SUBJ What A Day

Attention All Hands,
I know the sudden cancellation of leave, security sweeps, and visitor restrictions have put everyone on edge. I want to talk a bit about what happened and how we’ll be going forward.

First, an explanation. I’ve always made an effort to be open about the how and why of our orders, because I believe that the more information you have, the better you can plan and adjust to a changing situation. Unfortunately, I am prohibited from going into much details here, but we received threats from an outside source which put us, as a ship and crew, at risk. Thanks to your diligence and vigilance, we were able to guarantee the Brahe was safe and everyone accounted for.

Second, I’m afraid that, while general leave is still not available, recreational access to the station is being reinstated provided all personnel and possessions are scanned upon return to the ship. Personnel who would like to take leave on the station may do so, as long as they follow all appropriate leave procedures. Personnel whose leave was already interrupted will be considered before other requests.

Our unexpected security review also turned up a few minor issues that we’ll be working to resolve before the Brahe leaves port again. More details about those specific topics will be distributed by the individual department heads, assuming your department has any actual work to be done.

Finally, guests (both Starfleet and civilian) may return to the Brahe, but access to critical systems without an escort is prohibited (as usual). Security will be closely monitoring all guests during their visit.

For those who were with the Brahe before our transfer to Aldebaran, you may recognize that my husband, Marc Pradhan, is aboard. Feel free to stop by at say hello.

I Have the Honor to be Your,

SUBJ Takeover Aftermath

Good Morning Brahe,
The recent takeover of the Brahe by a malicious software intrusion is a stark reminder that even our best automated defenses are no substitute for following the procedures outlined by Operations for requesting third party installations. Failure to follow these procedures will result in a disciplinary action.

Replacement of the new computer core is underway. Once it is online, our off-site files will be sanitized and restored. Hopefully, little useful data will be lost; however, several computational jobs which had been running will have to be restarted. Such is the consequence: time lost for new discoveries.

I want to address the trauma each of us has likely faced as a result of a deceased comrade seemingly restored to life. Cadet Monroe was a friend and colleague to many and her apparent resurrection as a hologram, and program loss has likely reopened wounds which many of us were starting to heal. I strongly encourage everyone to find time to reflect on what has happened and seek counseling either here or on the starbase.

Robin is gone. We must accept this. Even if the hologram of her can be restored—which has strong ethical questions—it will not be Robin, but a new lifeform which approximates her mannerisms and thoughts. Accepting a loss like death is hard; it may take months, years, or even a lifetime, but for many of us, the entropy of existence is inevitable.

So, what do we do with so little time? Look to each other, love one another, and work toward a better tomorrow. The time we have is precious. Tell the people you care about you love them.

I know I will.

I Have the Honor to be Your,
Captain Zaliel Sel
