"From this location, I have no access to Kihai systems control," Amset explains in a patient tone bordering on condescension. "But even if I were to trigger the alert from within the Kihai, it would be unlikely to draw any more invaders to this location. Observe." Amset displayed the sensor data visually at its terminal, moving aside to provide an unobstructed view. "These are the lifeforms clustered in the infirmary. Whereas these are lifeforms arrayed throughout the rest of the vessel. These energy readings here, here, here, here, here and here are force fields blocking off corridors, apparently fencing off access to critical systems and the infirmary. These force fields also block the lifeforms' path back to the hatch."

Aurelia continues to monitor the situation from the Vanguard bridge, of course.

Chassy regards the schematics and the positioning for a long moment before she, once again in silence, comes to her conclusion: "The captain should hail the infirmary, and beam us in, depending. The remaining hostiles can be cleaned up at our leisure. Please, ah, patch communication controls to the bridge and advise them of the situation. We will await their mark for re-transport...and, ah, I want my two away team members returned as soon as possible."

As the request comes through Thysa approves the release of the redshirt, after, the patients are restrained. She continues monitoring their vitals.

Amset touches its communicator. "Away team to Vanguard. Please prepare site to site transport to the Kihai infirmary, to be initiated at your discretion. If possible, it would also be desirable to inform the Kihai that we are coming, to avoid misunderstanding of our intentions."

Konie quirks his brow a bit as he responds, "Away team from Vanguard. You want to be sent into the infected infirmary? Confirm? At this point we have no way to make direct contact with the infirmary unless you can slave a computer to us or want us to send an open hail to the Kihai. No guarantee there aren't scavengers aboard the bridge. It may be a very hot transport. We'll standby for confirmation."

"The away team acknowledges the risk, Captain," Amset replies. "At this time no EV suits have been reported compromised. Stand by for confirmation." To Lt. Quaen, Amset says, "The Vanguard has no means to warn the Kihai's crew of our arrival. They await your command, Lieutenant."

(Thanks for the patience, guys. We are now back in business.)

Communications filter through the Vanguard. After Dr. Tala confirms she has no further need of them, the two redshirt crewmen are transported from the Vanguard sickbay back to the scow's bridge, making a more comfortable landing than the last trip. Once the coordinates for the infirmary are set, the original six away team members prepare for transport to the Kihai's infirmary.

"It's crowded in there," advises the Vanguard's transporter chief. "But with the scow's sensor readings, I can get you inside the door. I'll send you two at a time."

Two of the redshirts dissolve into sparkles.

"Transport successful," reports the chief. "Next two, stand by."

The second two redshirts disappear.

"Transport successful," repeats the chief. "Last two, stand by."

The world shimmers for Lt. Quaen and Amset, then resolves.

(This data is also available immediately to Aurelia, as she has the video feeds for the suits on her console aboard the Vanguard.)

The Kihai's infirmary has been greatly expanded from its original design. Sixteen fully equipped diagnostic beds reside in their own alcoves, eight on either side. Entrances to four surgical pods line the back walls, and two surgical platforms occupy the center of the room. Standing between them in tight, orderly rows are collapsible triage gurneys, packed so closely together that only the narrowest of aisles remain to traverse the room.

Every bed is occupied, and each occupant is covered entirely with a sheet of protective thermal weave, wrapped about them like a winding sheet. Each bed's diagnostic monitor is active, displaying vital statistics for the occupant. The four surgical pods register in use and their displays offer similar data.

Nothing moves. There is no sound save the soft, muted beeping of the medical equipment.

Amset finds no hostile parties in evidence upon arriving in the infirmary. It turns its attention to the diagnostic monitor of the nearest bed, keying in pairing codes so that the monitor may sync its data with Amset's tricorder for transmission back to the Vanguard's medical staff. This accomplished, Amset sets to learning what it can from the monitor's data.

Chassy isn't so certain on the 'no hostiles' part, keeping wary as she wades through the rows of medical beds, signalling the trained part of her away team to sweep the room for anyone, or anything, that is not what it seems. Provided all's clear, she'll end at the closed doorway outwards, signaling for someone to flank the other side, and prepares to open it.

Back on the Vanguard, Dr. Tala's display lights up with the data Amset is transmitting from a single patient's diagnostic bed in the Kihai's infirmary.

This patient is a human female, comatose, with minimal brain and metabolic activity. She has been equipped with an intravenous hydrating solution. The thermal blanket has helped to maintain her body temperature, but there is no other equipment in use to keep her alive. Her breathing and heart rate are well below standard, but they are steady. Despite her diminished state, the patient appears stable.

None of the infirmary's occupants move or shift; it would take Amset or a medical professional reviewing each monitor to see if they are all in the same state, but if they're faking being unconscious coma patients, they're doing a creditable job.

Per Lt. Quaen's orders, the redshirts stack up on either side of the infirmary doors. The emergency locks have been engaged, presumably to offer added security, but whether that was for the sake of its occupants or to keep the occupants from escaping is not apparent.

Thysa scratches her head in frustration, as she tries to make sense of the data. It was almost like... no that wouldn't be it, if its not that then maybe..?

"Damn it," she swears under her breath before tapping her communicator. "Amset I can't do anything with this data, could you get me a tissue sample and swab some saliva, I need more to work with."

All of this potential containment is getting her nervous and she turns to one of her colleges.
"It might be an idea to put the emergency lock down procedures on a hair trigger, if anything goes wrong I want to be able to isolate the disease to this room."

Amset enacts the doctor's orders, methodically unpacking its medical kit and collecting the requested samples. It sends the resultant tricorder data back to the Vanguard. As it works, it addresses the away team leader: "Lt. Quaen, our research and diagnostic efficiency would be improved by tightening the feedback loop between these patients and Dr. Tala. I am capable of carrying out her commands, but time is lost in the communication of instructions and results. As soon as you are satisfied that the infirmary is secure, I recommend that she should beam to this location."
"Absolutely not." The response is a quiet but clear cut on the air. "No one else comes aboard this vessel until it is controlled. Please inform the captain that we will be needing beamed to the other side of this door. You, Ensign, and you," She indicates one of the away team, "Remain here while we canvas the rest of the ship and subdue the hostiles. Do not disengage the emergency locks."

"Skyler-Quaen to the Bridge, we will require a require a precision transport to the other side of the main infirmary door. I do not intend to compromise the infirmary's occupants by opening it."

The tissue and blood sample data takes some time to process and deliver to Dr. Tala on the Vanguard. Here are the results worth noting.

At the cellular level, energy processing and production has been reduced to almost nothing. Again, there is no suggestion of any biological agent, but the behavior of the cell is obviously abnormal. Cellular energy this low should not be able to sustain life, but if the vital signs previously provided are accurate, the subject is stable.

Once removed from the subject, the energy processes in those samples halt and cellular death takes place immediately.

"Dr. Tala," says one of the medical staff monitoring the captives' condition. The previously unconscious human scavenger is stirring, groggily beginning to pull at the restraints on the diagnostic bed.

Per Lt. Quaen's instructions, one of the redshirts remains behind as a guard for Amset. The other three prepare for transport with Lt. Quaen. With the sensor data from the Kihai as a guide, the transporter chief prepares to beam them to the other side of the infirmary door.

Precision is a relative term, but this time the chief gets them on the level and well-positioned. Lt. Quaen materializes in the narrow corridor outside the infirmary behind the relative safety of a bulkhead, a single redshirt behind her. On the opposite side of the hallway, the other two redshirts enjoy a similarly shielded position.

Between the bulkheads, a curtain of green forcefield energy hums loudly enough that it concealed the transported arrival of the away team. The two scavengers in this section of hallway are at the far end, just on the other side of another forcefield. One has ripped one of the wall panels open and is working on the wiring. The other is doing a poor job of keeping watch. They are arguing.

"...enough cutters to make it back to the ship. Let's just go," pleads the watcher in Rihan.

"Go where?" asks the electrician darkly in the same language, using her spanner to make another adjustment. "The engine room's just at the other end. It'll have everything we need and then some."

The forcefield nearest the scavengers sputters and the watcher jumps. The electrician's grin is audible in her voice. "Almost got it."

In the meantime doctor is still trying to figure out what this thing was, she doesn't even register when the results for the Kahai came through. I wander if this is some sort of...

"Dr Tala." the words cut through her trance and she follows the Medical Staffs gaze through to the restrained scavenger. She approaches the restrained human and stares him dead in the eye.
"If you don't stop struggling I'll just have to inject you with this," she picks up a hypospray, and hopes to god that the scavenger isn't well versed in medicine, "it's called Melorazine. Deadly, in the right concentration, I don't really need you with your friend so close by, so why don't you be a good man and cooperate."

She eases herself into a chair and puts on her best poker face as she folds her legs one across the other and hopes that none of the other medical staff give away her bluff. She really didn't want to waste medical supplies that she may need later.
"Captain there's someone down here who wants to speak to you."

"Understood, I'm on my way." Konie stands from his seat and points to a senior officer on his bridge, "You have the conn. If anything comes up and you need my judgement, let me know." He takes another look at the viewscreen before stepping into the turbolift.

"Deck 12, Medical Labs." The doors close and the lift begins moving, It doesn't take too long for the doors to open again and for the captain to take a step out continuing for the laboratories. As he arrives he takes the time to put on a quarantine suit before entering the laboratory. Once outfitted he heads for Doctor Tala and the scavenger, "What's going on?"

Quirks an eyebrow at the containment suite "That won't be necessary, the lab is quite safe for the moment... sir. Unless your planning to enter the containment area." She shrugs and points to her captive "Anyway our lovely friend from the Scav ship wanted to have a word with you, in your own time of course captain."
The human scavenger leaves off struggling after Dr. Tala's threat and contents himself with glaring balefully until Captain Konieczko appears.

"What's with the suit?" he demands. "You Feds got no right to keep us prisoner here!"

The Cardassian, as he has been since he was taken captive, remains silent, observing the exchange.

Dmitri nods to the doctor, "Safe for the moment, perhaps. But moments can change very quickly doctor. I won't force you, but would appreciate it if you and the staff would take the preemptive security."

He moves past and stares down at the human, "Consider both the suit, and us detaining you added precaution. Tell me what you know about the Kihai, aside from the fact your crew mates are currently scavenging it." Konie glances to the Cardassian as he finishes his thought, and back to the human.
