Spoiler: Mission LogShow
[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Sovereign-General Xvisj cuts the comms, and after some waiting, a data packet arrives. As Egzo brings it to his holoscreen, a confidentiality contract is brought up, requiring him to sign that -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - the data that will be provided will not be shared to anyone else and used only for the agreed purpose - the release of cardassian Khemak Ghib from the Bastion Corrections Facility.

Egzo@HF_Mudd mutters, and takes the time to read the contract carefully, only having to ask Shlaak once what a word means.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Second caveat postulates that Khemak Ghib is forbidden from entering the Ventraxian State territory under penatly of death.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: Shlaak: No hidden ssstuff as far as I sssee, there isss a matter of this Bassstion being surrounded by Ventraxian sspace, but there isss a provision for uss to bring him out.

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Aight, then."

Egzo@HF_Mudd duly thumbs and assents, grimacing as he does.

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: Among Egzo's very few virtues is that he /does/ try to keep his word, whenever possible. Good for employer-employee relations, both up and down.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Let's go get'im."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "All ships, stand by to go to warp."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Couple of seconds later, Khemak Ghib's case data, including official code necessary for legal proceedings are provided.

Lorri@crystyll jumps a little as she snaps awake and sits up straight in her chair again. Looks around. Yeah, nobody saw she dozed off during the contract signing...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> IKS Barut standing by.

[Local] Lorri@crystyll: <C> Thana Vaneri stands ready

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "We got everything from the SovGen? ... mm. Hag'lhr, acting!"

Egzo@HF_Mudd gestures to Rritt to do the thing.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: | <FX> Rritt does the thing, and IKS Hag'lhr jumps to warp.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Couple of hours later, squadron approaches the coordinates provided in the data...

Egzo@HF_Mudd makes sure to drop out of warp a prudent distance away, uncloaked.

[Local] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Picking up a perimeter of Ventraxian nav buoys...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> We are getting the same sensor readings...a circular area, they are transmitting a message on repeat-

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: Think I can guess.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Well, no need to guess, putting it through...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: "Warning! You are entering the neutral territory of the Bastion Correction Facility. Ventraxian State cannot guarantee your safety. Enter at your own risk, and only if you have a valid reason."

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods again. "Every place like this I ever been to. Least we ain't bustin' into or outta this one. This time."

Egzo@HF_Mudd gestures to Nesha. "Open a channel, transmit our codes and auths and stuff."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Was a long time since we were bustin someone out the fun way.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> We know anythin' about this place?

[Local] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Codes transmitted and channel open.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Private prison, neutral. They take the real hard cases."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "S'about it."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> *a pleasing synthetic voice* This is Bastion Correction Facility. How can we assist you?

Egzo@HF_Mudd sits up straight in his command chair.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: ** Visual on screen: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/warframe/images/c/ce/OrdisArchwingtrailer.png/revision/latest?cb=20170110165512

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "This is Captain Egzo, IKS Hag'lhr. We're here t' pick up one of yer pris'ners. We got authorization from the Sov'rin Gen'rl an' everythin'."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "I'll take personal responsibility for him."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Curious, you are the second sentient to request this within the last 48 hours. Hopefully you, unlike your predecessor, have a proper case authorization code.

Lorri@crystyll perks a brow at this revelation

Egzo@HF_Mudd 's brows draw together.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Who else's askin'?"

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: [SHUT UP ORDIS] :>

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "And yeah, code's there, check it."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> A very unpleasant individual that identified themselves as Gul Donal. They demanded the release of their "comrade", but they had no authority of any kind.

Egzo@HF_Mudd shares a quick glance with his bridge officers before answering, <C> Yeeaaah, right on all counts there.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Code received...processing...code verified, case 4747-A-875. Accessing case files...I am sorry, but request is not possible to complete.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Why not?

Egzo@HF_Mudd has a sinking feeling, and another guess...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Reformed Resident Khemak Ghib has died from natural causes 235 day cycles ago. Per their request, their remains were incinerated and ashes were released into the void.

Egzo@HF_Mudd squints. That's not QUITE what he was expecting, and yet...

Egzo@HF_Mudd quickly points to Nesha and makes a finger sign to mute the channel.

[Local] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Audio off.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Their per-

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> 'e ain't dead. Cutters like that don't reform and they don't just DIE. It's some kinda trick, gotta be.

Egzo@HF_Mudd gestures again for audio.

[Local] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Everybody just dies...

[Local] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Audio on.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> - upon request.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Ah, copy that. I'm requestin'. I gotta fill anythin' out for that?

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Sending you the relevant forms. Resident Ghib had no personal items upon arrival, so we can skip those forms...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Around a dozen forms pop up on Egzo's holoscreen...

Egzo@HF_Mudd rubs his turtley brow. Like he doesn't do enough paddwork in his everyday.

Egzo@HF_Mudd sets to his grim task.

Egzo@HF_Mudd mutter-hums a bit of a hew-mon song he heard once: "tis, tis a glorious thing t' be a pirate king..."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Once you send us correctly filled out forms, we will transfer the request files.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Anything else we can do for you in the meanwhile?

Egzo@HF_Mudd looks up at the screen, with the talking cube icon. "Y'said 'natural causes'. You mean age, or what? How old was this guy?"

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Khemak Ghib died from the final stage of unknown heart condition. They refused the attempts of treatment, despite our best efforts on the matter.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Khemak Ghib died at the age of 96 "years".

Egzo@HF_Mudd shakes his head, and goes back to filling out forms. 96 isn't that old, not these days, not for a Cardie. And a "heart condition" he didn't let the prison docs, or holograms or whatevs, look at? Yeah, right.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Quite a loss, I must add. They were a model resident. Despite being cleared of the original charges, they requested to stay here and help with daily activities.

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods and asks, sounding distracted and disinterested, casual-like, "What kinda daily activities?"

Egzo@HF_Mudd listens closely as he goes through the forms.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> They enjoyed working at the hydroponic farms, and they were holding the workshops on data processing and analysis, calligraphy and Alpha Quadrant history.

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods to himself. Sigint, coded writing, and... well, history.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> They were also a member of the debate team and strategic games club.

Egzo@HF_Mudd finishes with the forms, with a little help from his ship's computer and auto-complete. "All done. Transmittin'."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Data acquired...requested forms analysis...acceptable. Transmitting requested personal files.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Thankya. Oh, one last thing. Y'got a rough vector for that burial detail? Might wanna... pay our respects.

[Local] Lorri@crystyll: "Um... you guys may want to check your sensors. We have... asteroids, on an intercept course"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Uh, scratch that last, Bastion."

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Thana, watcha got?"

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Unfortunately, no. Such data was not deemed relevant to store.

Lorri@crystyll taptaps, "Patching through our sensor readouts now"

[Local] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Uh, we've got... asteroids? Six of them incoming. We've got about two minutes.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Erm, yeah...we're catching them on the senors, but barely...that is so not how asteroids work. Unless someone tractored them and let them at us...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Trying to narrow our scans...

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: <C> Asteroids. Right. Bastion, we're goin' t' yellow alert, stand by on red. Advise ya do the same.

Egzo@HF_Mudd orders, with comms still open, "Nobody target the station."

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-BCF> Thank You for the warning, but as long as they stay out of our space, it is not our problem.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: *note* Station is waaaay from here, you stopped just before buoys, it's more than 0.1 ly away

Egzo@HF_Mudd shakes his head again. Machines. He knows machines, almost as well as he knows piracy. Machines can be real smart /and/ real dumb at the same time, depending on who built and programmed 'em.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: (noted, but space engagements can cross distances quickly)

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Bastion cuts comms, leaving what is most likely and image of the

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: *most likely an image of station from the outside: https://stellaris.paradoxwikis.com/images/7/74/Evt_enigmatic_cache.png

Nesha t'Merek@thesophist readies a power distribution profile prioritizing shields, in case of imminent impact.

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Shlaak. Any power signatures or course changes, yet?"

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: whoever wants to scan the asteroid, gimme sensor roll - Nesha can scan for Hag'lhr

[Emotes] Lorri@crystyll: rolls 63 (1-100)

[Emotes] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: rolls 11 (1-100)

[Team] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: lol

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: you can reroll once per event

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: (yeah, yeah, get it out of the way now.)

[Local] Lorri@crystyll: "We're routing all we've got into the lateral sensor palettes to get a better picture for you"

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: (I wouldn't.)

[Team] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Nah I'll save it.

[Local] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: The "asteroids", they're, uh, accelerating...

Egzo@HF_Mudd nods, having totally expected that. "Red alert."

[Local] Lorri@crystyll: "Whatever they're really running, looks like they're using signature masking. But each one is uncannily similar shape and size to be random"

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Yeah, two asteroids are rushing in. Shields up! Heat up the coils!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Two asteroids speed up, moving in front of the remaining 4 asteroids, they will be in the weapons range in seconds. What do you do?

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: everyone has an action!

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: just describe what do you do/want to do

Lorri@crystyll FX | Thana's hangar bays open up as the ship prepares itself to defend

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Rritt, evade those screeners. Line us up on one of the back four. Light it up when we're in range."

[Local] Lorri@crystyll: "I've got two squadrons standing by to intercept"

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Launch 'em."

[Team] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Can I set up a readied action? I don't think there's anything useful I can do yet, but if I can go on overwatch until there's damage to repair...

Lorri@crystyll nods and relays the order

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: you're an engineer, and you can try to use some of the engi skills from ingame if they make sense

Lorri@crystyll FX | Two swarms of Interceptors sweep out from the belly of the beast and move to, well, intercept

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: like, you can use emergency batteries to boost a certain system, reinforce hull polarity, transfer auxiliary power to something else, etc

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: If they open fire, you'll wanna stay on top of distributing shield power.

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Angling the shields", as they'd say over in the other Star series.

[Team] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Those seem like things I'd do in response to taking fire, but we haven't been hit yet. Hence my question about a readied action.

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: you can for example boost weapon system to give a boost on next attack roll

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: you can transfer auxiliary power to inertial dampeners (a skill from game) to make ship more nimble making it harder to hit

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: you don't necessary need to wait for damage to happen :)

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: up to you, and yes, you can have a readied action to react to something!

[Team] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Alright...

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: it's perfectly fine.

Nesha t'Merek@thesophist transfers aux power to inertial dampers to assist in Rritt's evasion attempt.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> As the squadron prepares for incoming asteroids, two asteroids in front start "shifting" into two large missile like object, who almost immedietaly burst into hundreds of smaller objects -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - spraying the area in front of the squadron...objects keep the momentum and rush forward...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Everyone's sensors lit up as those objects power up...and your holo-screens show the schematics of hirogen tetyron mines...

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C> Crap! Evasive!

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: -- ROUND 1 --

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: -- Egzo's action --

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: just to clarify if needed, you've got incoming a swarm of mines, ala Galaxy Quest :)

[Local] Egzo@HF_Mudd: | <FX> Rritt, as previously ordered, tries to dodge the incoming swarm of mines and get a good firing angle on one of the back four "asteroids".

[Emotes] Egzo@HF_Mudd: rolls 24 (1-100)

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: I'll stand on that roll, with Nesha's assist. Figure we were expecting to dodge a rock, not a shotgun blast.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> R'rit does his best but is forced to fully focus on evading mines, luckily Nesha's boost gives him the speed and mobility for the task. However, no better vantage point on the -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - incoming hostiles is gained.

[Team] Egzo@HF_Mudd: perfect, I was about to type how that was the priority.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: -- Nesha's action --

Nesha t'Merek@thesophist attempts to use the tractor beam to push nearby mines away and give the ship some room to maneuver.

[Team] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: Roll?

[Team] Sadia@gulremal: yesh

[Emotes] Nesha t'Merek@thesophist: rolls 58 (1-100)

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Hag'lhr's tractor beam catches a couple of mines and slams them into small cluster of incoming mines, making a small opening for Hag'lhr and giving it more space to move.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: -- Lorri's action --

Lorri@crystyll FX | Thana turns side on to the incoming mines with it's lateral cannons trying to establish a defensive barrage of AA fire while the Interceptors swarm around those bodies not caught by the barrage

[Emotes] Lorri@crystyll: rolls 26 (1-100)

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Thana's guns managed to shoot some of the mines, but not enough to clear the area in front of it. Interceptor squadrons easily clear the field and head towards 2 of the 4 incoming asteroids...

[Emotes] Sadia@gulremal: rolls 58 (1-100)

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> IKS Barut hides behind Thana.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Mines rush in and start acquiring targets, using their thrusters to home in. Over a dozen mines hit Thana, but its shields hold - tetryon energies do cause additional damage, and Thana's port -

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - side shields drop down to 40%.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Some mines try to target Hag'lhr but R'ritt uses the opening to evade most of them. Two of them still detonate due to proximity, indirect damage dropping the aft shields to 60%.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <FX> Four asteroids "shimmer" as they shift into hirogen heavy escorts - two of them open fire at the incoming squadrons, taking out couple of interceptor drones from each. Remaining two escorts move-

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: - closer and start acquiring target locks - one on Hag'lhr, one on Thana.

[Local] Sadia@gulremal: <C-Hirogen> Disable the lead vessel, destroy the rest. Alpha wants that data!
