Stardate: 93502.3Report Title: Destruction of the U.S.S. SiroccoReport Submitted: CAPT Konieczko, D.Classification Level: 2 - Confidential

On Stardate 93501.5, the U.S.S. Sirocco departed from Deep Space 13 with several members of the 38th fleet to assist in the ongoing terraforming efforts taking part on Waydis II. Upon arriving we were informed that the Sirocco was nearing the end of phase 5 of their plan.

Captain Burns, Commanders Konieczko and Sedai, and myself went down to the planet's surface to take several samples of soil and water and begin the planting process. The while we had a waydi visitor watching us. The samples were aggregated into a solution and loaded into 6 torpedoes which were then transferred into a shuttle.

We made three passes of the coastal shoreline with Commander Konieczko piloting the shuttle, myself and Captain Burns deploying the payloads with our Waydi spectator looking on from the back. Lieutenant Commander Sedai remained on the planet's surface before beaming back up to the Sirocco. Upon completion were were informed of that and instructed that the we were expected back on the Sirocco. All docking procedures were followed as we arrived back with the shuttle.

Again, myself Captain Burns, and Commander Konieczko disembarked the shuttle and began making our way to the terrametrics lab aboard the Sirocco. The two others quickly noted that our Waydi spectator was not with us, we immediately doubled back to attempt to locate them. As we reached the shuttle again Captain Burns and I heard a low rumble coming from the shuttle. When he stepped in the shuttle exploded and launched Captain Burns back a fair distance. Commander Konieczko sensed that the Waydi observer was still inside at the time of the explosion.

After the initial blast we began working on the evacuation of the shuttlebay, before I could start moving to assist Captain Burns he was already working towards the controls to vent the shuttlebay before the destruction could spread for further shuttles. The Commander and myself made it out with as many of the hands working as we could before Captain Burns vented. I had organized to have him transported out the moment it opened, I later learned that it worked as intended.

Before we could come up with our next move it was decided for us as the bulkheads began cracking and buckling under the stress of the now two explosions. The order changed to move away from the compromised section and keep moving. Things began happening too quickly to get a full understanding of the timetables.

As Commander Konieczko and I moved towards the bridge we were informed engineering was tied up preventing a warp core meltdown, the explosions chaining to compromise the vessel further. By the time we got to the next corridor intersection they had sent out the general distress call. When we arrived to the safest turbolift in the area in our attempt we found it inoperable.

The order was then relayed for all hands to abandon ship. The Commander and I found the nearest lifeboat and launched ourselves. From our viewscreen we could see the Sirocco attempting to eject the warpcore, it didn't make it far before detonating. Our lifeboat was later on picked up by the U.S.S. Atlantis.

Stardate 93510
FILED BY: LCDR Sedai, Brian
SECURITY: Level 1: Open

LOCATION: U.S.S. Sirocco, Waydis system, Kelterre Sector.

MISSION: Microorganism seeding on Waydis II (reference phase V of attached terraformation project outline)

OUTCOME: Selected three colony candidate sites were seeded and germinated according to ascribed parameters. Waydi terrorist actions caused the total loss of USS Sirocco, with red alert and abandon ship calls.

KEY PERSONNEL:
CAPT Burns, Dallas
CAPT Konieczko, Dmitri
CMDR Konieczko, Mathilda
LCDR Sedai, Brian
LCDR Sedai, Katriel
CIV 'Gled' (deceased)

NARRATIVE: As one of the terraform project leads, I served as primary advisor and consultant for all surface teams, ensuring sample analysis results matched our predictions and making adjustments where it did not. This aspect of the mission went without issue. Report will focus on the events aboard the Sirocco.

While we were waiting for the ground teams to return to vessel, however, the Sirocco went to red alert. I exited terrametrics to report to my emergency station and encountered LCDR Katriel Sedai who was, regrettably, not still on the surface. As she was a visiting officer to the vessel, I brought her to my emergency station and began to complete emergency checklist procedure tasks, accounting for my department personnel, et cetera. The remaining Waydi observers were also present.

As we waited for further instructions, the deterioration of the ship reached our science lab, causing one console to overload. The resultant discharge and combustion injured several officers standing near it at the time, including myself. It was around this time that the order to abandon ship came over the comms, so instead of mobilizing for sickbay, my charges and I went to escape pods.

On our way there, Katriel sustained a dislocated shoulder due to my overenthusiasm for getting her out of the way of a collapsing ceiling strut. (I am not sorry.)

We did experience an issue while boarding the escape pods. A failsafe error was causing the pods to register to the computer as already launched, when all the pods were actually still present. Katriel and I utilized my security authorization to manually override the safety restrictions on each pod control panel and unlock each hatch for escape.

My sister and I were the last ones in our group to eject after making sure everyone else was launched, which probably led to our departure coinciding with the shockwave from the detonating ejected warp core. Our pod was subsequently damaged in the impact, the compartment flooded with radiation and the pod reported insufficient power to run all safety systems. We elected to utilize the pod's medkit to stay the effects of radiation poisoning so we could use the remaining power to prolong life support as long as possible.

My gratitude to the crew of the Atlantis who, I am told, retrieved our pod in the end and in a timely enough manner.

RECOMMENDATION: Following remarks are only pertinent to the terraforming mission directive.

Now that the Sirocco has been lost, obviously the timeline of completion for the terraformation project has been negatively impacted. Fortunately the tangible effect at this point is fairly negligible. Atmospheric balancing has mostly been offloaded to the weather regulator network and while we only completed roughly three-fifths of the intended flora seeding, the most recent soil analysis indicates that it is capable of supporting plant growth at this stage without additional assistance, though it will not be as arable as originally proposed.

Another terraforming specialist team should be sent in a month or two to verify that the progression is stable before the Waydi are permitted to settle, but I am optimistic at this time that the Sirocco's last job, however incomplete, was done well.
