Controversy Amidst Start To Yearly Eledri Festival
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93193.8

Today marked the start of the annual celebration known as the Festival of Gratitude, or simply Festival, on Eledri Prime. The event is normally a place for pageantry, artistic expression, cultural celebration and spiritual renewal for the Eledri, and normally apolitical. And for much of the opening ceremonies, this appeared to be the case. Many celestial objects in the Oort Cloud surrounding the Eledri system were lit bright with the traditional colors of purple and violet, casting the night sky in an almost magical tapestry of sparkling color. Music began pouring out of every corner of every major city and enclave. Revelers prepared by dressing the part, wearing the traditional garb that marks the beginning of this week long event. Even the large expatriate community got into the act, not to mention the millions of tourists who make the yearly trek to Eledri Prime to experience one of the most unique and memorable parties in the quadrant.

The stage was set, and early stages of day one festivities seemed to go off without a hitch. A massive fireworks display was set off across the massive Detak, and throngs of celebrants gathered in City Fourteen, for the official observance of the traditional Eledri new year. Representatives of the Unity government and close ally worlds, such as the Earth, Vulcan and Ferengi ambassadors all sat on the dias as the High Minister Zulana Laozai marked the 3077th year of the Eledri modern calendar, the Year of the River Lily, with the ceremonial lighting of the Festival torch.

It was not long after that the event left the routine of years past, and instead of leaving the stage, High Minister Laozai invited a member of the Goddess Council, the highest of clerical orders on the world, to read passages from The Doctrine of al'Zedai. The book, and the words within its covers are rarely mentioned, let alone read aloud in the presence of the general public, especially around foreigners. What followed was certainly historic, and seemingly unexpected as it appeared that several Unity government members were disturbed by it.

The Cleric, who did not give her name but was later identified as Subpriestess Elanna Zev, read several passages that seemed to indicate that there was room in the Doctrine for recent rumors being called The New Origin theory. An unnamed source within the Unity government says the move was last minute in nature and did not include counsel from several key Ministers, but was carried out after Laozai spoke to a group from the Science, Arts and Spiritual ministries.

Reaction to the readings ranged from positive to negative, with a noticeable group of attendees leaving the main gathering in Detak's Government district. Overall, the vast majority of celebrants seemed to either welcome the new openness, or seemed to take it in stride. And as of this report, there have been no major disruptions to planned day one events. Security officials report that there has been no violence as a result, thus far.

When reached for questioning, the Office of the High Minister had no statement and would not reply to questions. The same was the case for most lower ministries, with none willing to go on the record officially. We've reached out to the embassies of Earth and Vulcan, but no official statement from either has been sent at the time of this report.

Time will tell if this unusual start to Festival will have lasting effects, but FNN will continue to report, and bring them to you.

Eledri Festival Marked By Political Infighting As Prominent Minister Resigns
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93198.6

Following the unusual start to this year's Eledri Festival of Gratitude, sources from within the Unity government have stated that a major rift between several cabinet ministers has developed. Our source suggests that long standing disagreements on policy have bubbled to the surface, once it was clear that High Minister Laozai had picked a side in the debate over the so-called New Origin theory.

The theory, which also was being debated before the Federation Science Council in Paris, was first introduced by Thue t'Xereth and Ahnar tr'Veras, a geneticist and archeologist respectively. Both are citizens of the Romulan Republic, and that fact has been used to accuse them both of bias in their findings by some on Eledri Prime. Included among those is the now former Minister of Offworlder Affairs Katali Zebol.

Zebol offered her resignation to the High Minister, and this morning it was accepted. The move took many by surprise, as Zebol had been Laozai's campaign manager in her recent election for High Minister. Zebol's official statement stated family concerns as the reason for her resignation, but sources within the ministry have suggested that Zebol had gathered with a number of her fellow ministers to garner support for a vote of no confidence. Apparently there was enough support for the move to bring it to the Unity Chamber for an actual vote, but the movement fell apart when the Chamber President refused to hold the vote during Festival. At that point much of Zebol's support from the other ministries had started to waiver.

Our sources suggest that Zebol still had the support of both the Civil Defense Minister Duulon Xeris and Internal Security Minister Lolana Kavla. Both, along with Zebol are seen by many as the hardliners within Laozai's cabinet, often pushing the more traditional stance on many issues. Many had seen Laozai herself as a traditionalist, but recent events suggest that may not be the case, at least on the issue of a Romulan or Vulcan connection to the Eledri on the genetic level.

Laozai seems to be getting more support within her cabinet by another faction that is reportedly led by Science Minister Zinea Toldai and Arts Minister Laluu Zaldo. Sources say that it was Zaldo who brought information of Zebol's intentions to the High Minister's attention late last night, and pressured the Chamber President to hold off on any vote. As Arts Minister, it is Zaldo who is responsible for the planning and coordination of Festival events, and many have found her performance to be positive, despite the history of her family in Eledri politics. Behind the scenes, Zaldo is suspected as the one who pressured other ministers to drop their support for Zebol's efforts to remove the High Minister, and many have started calling her Laozai's Sehlat for the forceful way she has defended the High Minister's agenda in cabinet meetings and in the local press.

Our sources report that many within the Unity government see Zebol's plan as a powerplay, as the Offworlder Affairs Minister is next in line of succession, and Zebol's faction would directly benefit from any vote that would remove Laozai from office. Some see this as a failed coup, while others won't go that far. Her resignation leaves a large gap and many questions, her post is currently vacant and her duties have been delegated to her deputy. There has been no official word from Detak on who may become the next Offworlder Affairs Minister, and none is expected until at least after Festival has concluded.

We will continue to cover this story, and have reached out to all parties involved, without official reply as of yet.

As Eledri Festival Ends Many Questions Remain
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93208.7

Today ends what has been a remarkable Festival of Gratitude on Eledri Prime. The week has been marked by historic new openness about the previously mysterious spiritual text known as the Doctrine of al'Zedai, a major shake up in the High Minister's Cabinet, and high profile signals that the Unity government is open to the New Origin theory. Perhaps the most dramatic signal of all came during the closing ceremonies, specifically during the March of Banners.

For those unaware, the March of Banners is among the last events held during Festival, and it symbolizes Eledri gratitude for their many allies, as well as openness to the population of expatriates who have made Eledri Prime their new home. It includes a parade where Offworlder citizens carry the flags of their original homes, for a ten kilometer trek from the Detak city center to the High Minister's palace. Once there each group will provide a single larger flag to be lifted on poles that surround the residence.

As is custom, the Eledri delegation ends the procession leaving their banner to be the last raised. What made this year different is that amongst the Eledri delegation, some of the participants were waving flags from the Romulan Republic, along with their own flags. When asked why, one man stated that he, "... wished to show our new cousins that we support them." Others expressed similar sentiments, and overall there was a positive attitude among those in the delegation.

Republic and Unity flags were not the only ones being carried by Eledri in the parade though, with some deciding to carry a plain blue banner with the symbol of the Legacy Party, which has not held power in Eledri politics since Eledri Prime became a Federation member. When questioned as to why, many stated that they did not trust the media and would not speak to their motives. One woman did state that, "... Laozai is giving our culture away to the Romulans, piece by piece, we need to hold on to what we have, and take back what we've lost." That woman was former Minister of Offworlder Affairs Katali Zebol, in her first public statement since resigning her post.

It is clear that there are different opinions among the Eledri to the New Origin theory, and what it will mean here in Detak and across Eledri Prime. What is not known is if any of the opinions will take hold, and if so, what that will mean for the future of this world and the people living in it. There are still questions as to who will replace Zebol at Offworlder Affairs, with sources speculating that the High Minister will nominate Federation Councilor Levani Zoss to fill the role. As for who may be nominated to replace Zoss, there are several names being talked about, notably among them is Zoss' aide Zelan Zaldo. If it should come to pass, Zaldo's move to Councilor would be historic, as he would be the first male Eledri to sit on the Council.

With all the this said, it should be noted that Festival remained a peaceful celebration, which marks the start of what should be a very interesting year for this unique culture. FNN will continue to cover this story as it develops.

Councilor Zoss Confirmed As New Offworlder Affairs Minister
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93517.3

Today the Eledri Unity Diet voted 129 to 71 to confirm Federation Councilor Levani Zoss as the new Minister of Offworlder Affairs, filling the number two position in the Unity Government which has been vacant since the resignation of Katali Zebol four months ago. Zoss has been Federation Councilor since 2414, nominated by High Minister Laozai upon taking office that year, but will resign later today due to laws that restrict officials from holding both Eledri and Federation position concurrently.

Former Minister Zebol, who had been quite vocal at the time of her resignation during the yearly Festival of Gratitude celebrations, has been notably quiet about political affairs in the past several months, following several negative events tied to the Legacy movement. When asked for comment on these developments, her representatives have not returned requests. More vocal elements in the Legacy Bloc have actively campaigned against the nomination, released advertisements in opposition, and have called for the vote of no confidence in the Unity Government that had been delayed during Festival, and then abandoned afterwards.

Councilor Zoss will be sworn in as Minister at a ceremony being held at the Executive Palace in Detak on Monday morning local time. It is speculated that High Minister Laozai may nominate Zoss' replacement at the same event, with a source close to the administration saying that the short list includes names Laozai trusts, including Zelan Zaldo who is the son of Arts Minister Laluu Zaldo and Councilor Zoss' closest aide and advisor. The younger Zaldo is currently in Detak, which only adds to the speculation, though when reached for comment he said he was visiting family, and had recently attended a joining ceremony for his sister and her new husband.

Whoever is nominated to replace Zoss in the council will have to be confirmed in a timely manner so Eledri Prime can keep their vote on the Federation Council, as Eledri law prohibits the use of a temporary replacement or proxy. The Unity Diet is expected to clear its schedule for confirmation hearings once a person is nominated, with a vote by the Unity Chamber to follow the Diet's own vote. While Laozai's administration and their allies in the Unity Bloc expect an easy confirmation for whoever she selects, a Zaldo nomination could potentially complicate matters due to family reputation and the perception by some that Minister Zaldo may be using her influence for the benefit of her own family.

We will continue to cover this situation here, as well as on our video networks.

Unity Bloc Leadership Visit Joint Eledri/Romulan Genetics Lab In Detak
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93525.8

High Minister Laozai showed her support for the continuing efforts by Eledri and Romulan Republic scientists to study the New Origin theory, by taking a tour of the government facilities tasked with that research, today. She was joined by several cabinet members and key Unity Bloc leaders, including Science Minister Zinea Toldai, New Off-Worlder Affairs Minister Levani Zoss and Federation Councilor Selectee Zelan Zaldo. The tour lasted for the better part of an hour, and consisted of demonstrations of the techniques used, explanations of the findings, and a brief closed door meeting with the Eledri and Romulan supervisors of the labs.

Security, which is already incredibly tight at the facilities, was heightened due to the presence of the numbers one and two Unity Party leaders in attendance. With the security zone moved out an additional ten kilometers in radius. It's been months since the attack on DS-13 that claimed the life of that station's Commander, Andre Freeman. Investigations showed that extremist elements with loyalties to the Legacy Bloc agenda were responsible for the attack that targeted the mind behind the joint efforts currently underway to determine if there is a direct link between the Eledri and species such as the Romulans, Vulcans and other related species, Thue t'Xereth. Leaders in the Legacy Bloc were quick to condemn that attack, or any violent tactics used to further their viewpoint, distancing themselves and the Bloc from any implications of collusion.

It would seem by today's visit that the Unity Bloc, and the Eledri government plan to double-down on the research, with the High Minister stating to the press, "In understanding our past, we can better know ourselves, and where we intend to move, going forward." The presence of Zoss and Zaldo suggest that a larger focus may be put on direct diplomacy between the Unity and Republic governments, both locally and at the council level. While polls show that a growing number of Eledri would support such a move, there is still a sizable amount that worry about how Romulan influence may shape Eledri culture. There were a number of small demonstrations staged outside the security perimeter of the lab facilities and the executive palace, in protest of the visit, and what it might mean. All of them loud but peaceful.

FNN will continue to cover any developments from Detak, including the hearings for Councilor Selectee Zaldo, which start early next week.

Planned Deltan State Visit To Eledri Prime Postponed
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93536.9

A planned visit by the Prime Minister Nira of the Deltan Union, her family and other key members of the Deltan Union to Eledri Prime has been suddenly postponed. The visit was to consist of a week's worth of events, a state dinner hosted by High Minister Laozai, and important trade negotiations scheduled between Offworlder Affairs Minister Zoss and her counterpart Trade Minister Silas. According to a source within the Deltan delagation, the trip had been planned for several months, with all the details already locked down, and that this postponement came as a surprise.

When reached for comment, none was given from the Ministry of Offworlder Affairs or the Office of the High Minister. No statement has been released as of yet, with no new schedule being presented as to what will happen with the week's worth of time not being devoted to the Deltan visit. Sources within the Unity government, who are usually more than willing to talk under anonymity, have not come forward with any explanation to the postponement.

This sort of postponement is atypical of the Laozai administration, who have gone out of their way to reach out to allies, continue partnerships and build new ones. This undoubtedly will leave many to speculate as to the rationale of the delay, in the absence of any official explanation.

FNN will continue to reach out to our sources and attempt to discover what happened here, and what it all means.

BREAKING: High Minister Zulana Laozai Dead
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93560

FNN has received official confirmation of an unsubstantiated report made earlier in the day, that Zulana Laozai, High Minister of the Eledri Unity, has died while receiving emergency medical treatment for currently unknown condition she had been suffering from for the better part of the last two weeks. Early reports state that she fell ill prior to the scheduled state visit by the Prime Minister of the Deltan Union, the cause of the cancellation of that planned diplomatic and trade summit. While the exact details have not been confirmed by our sources within the Unity government, reports by al'Zanloz Media Group state that Laozai fell into a coma early Friday evening after suffering from an "unknown acute affliction" for over a week. During that time her duties were covered by Offworlder Affairs Minister Levani Zoss and Arts Minister Laluu Zaldo, with no announcements being made to the media. Our sources state that the President of the Unity Chamber, and leaders within the Diet were alerted to the condition in private consultations several days ago.

We're being told that Levani Zoss has been sworn in as the new High Minister, in a brief ceremony which took place at the Executive Palace after the death of Laozai. Further details are reportedly forthcoming, with an official planetwide address now scheduled to take place within the next day. We've been alerted that an autopsy is planned prior to an expected state funeral of the departed High Minister, and leader of the Unity Party, the largest voting group within the Unity Bloc. High Minister Zoss is now the ranking member of the Liberty Party, the second largest group within the Unity Bloc. Eledri political experts assert that Zoss will be made Liberty Party leader as a matter of course, but suggest that this will have little effect on the actual government structure or agenda as the two parties are closely tied.

Zoss was only recently confirmed for her position as Offworlder Affairs Minister, with her vote by the Eledri Diet going along Bloc lines. Prior to becoming Offworlder Affairs Minister, Zoss spent the last two years as the Federation Councilor for Eledri Prime. Under Eledri law she will serve the remaining four years of Laozai's term, and will be eligible to run for election herself, should she wish to. She will have the power to appoint cabinet level positions within her government, including her own replacement, for full Diet confirmation. And as of now has access to sensitive intelligence and internal security documents, now having the ultimate say over executive policy.

Condolences have been pouring in over the last few hours since the first speculative reports were made over local media feeds, both from across the greater region and locally as well, regardless of political affiliation or citizenship. It cannot be overstated that Laozai was among the most popular leaders in recent Eledri history, and while many have considered her something of a traditionalist, her agenda has been called forward leaning. She was considered an extremely persuasive diplomat, both within the confines of the Federation and beyond its borders. Recently she showed her support for the so-called New Origin theory, and our sources confirm that negotiations were in the nascent stages for full diplomatic relations between the Eledri Unity and the Romulan Republic.

At the hour of this report, thousands have gathered around the Executive Palace to hold a spontaneous candlelight vigil for the fallen leader, with makeshift shrines being erected and River Lilies being laid against the gates. Detak security personnel have moved in, to maintain the peace and allow traffic to move in and out of the compound. More mourners are expected to join them in Detak as the word spreads with the new day.

Our sources have informed us that Zulana Laozai had her last full physical examination at the beginning of the month, and that she was found fit and without obvious illness. Those records along with the results of her autopsy are likely to be closely reviewed to determine if anything was missed, though we're told that foul play or preexisting condition is not suspected currently. Her body is currently being kept at the Executive Palace, where it is expected to lie in state after the autopsy, and prior to any planned funeral events. Laozai is survived by her husband Xedok and her three adult sons. She was 78 years old.

FNN will have around the clock coverage of this breaking news story on FNN Newsfeed 47, as we will continue to bring you up to the minute developments from Detak and across Eledri Prime.

EXCLUSIVE: Closed Door Meetings Provide Clues On Zoss Administration
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93561.6

FNN has been provided a summary of topics discussed in a high level meeting between new High Minister Levani Zoss, her cabinet and high ranking members of both the Unity and Legacy blocs. The summary has been verified by another source at that meeting, and FNN management has decided that the information's value to the public outweighs other concerns we may have of publishing it.

  • The Meeting opened with a discussion of the current investigation into the death of Zulana Laozai.

Suspects have been detained in connection with the investigation, after details of the autopsy point to malicious circumstances. Science Minister Zinea Toldai has been suspended from her duties and taken into custody, though she has yet to be charged with a crime. Security personnel have questioned several Eledri and Romulan geneticists from the joint New Origin labs in Detak, with the arrest on one individual resulting from those interviews. The identity of that individual is currently being withheld from FNN.

Preliminary results of the autopsy show signs of drastic mutation at the genetic level, with experts in the field pointing towards the use of intentional methods to manipulate Laozai's genetic code. There are images shown of Laozai that we have chosen not to publish at this time, showing signs of physical mutation of the skin, blood and forehead ridges.

There is a call by some in the room to openly classify the death as an assassination, and to arrest everyone connected to the New Origin study in connection with the death. This discussion is quickly calmed by Zoss, who assures the others that a fair and thorough investigation and trial of any and all suspects connected to the death will occur, but that calls for blind revenge will not be answered by her administration.

There is then a call to close the New Origin labs and end the study completely. This sparks a debate over the New Origin theory itself, amongst those in the meeting, with Zoss saying she'll take the matter under serious consideration, but not openly stating an opinion on the theory itself.

Funeral arrangements are discussed, with the task for planning falling to the Ministry of Internal Security and the Ministry of Arts.

  • The Meeting shifts to a discussion of filling cabinet vacancies, and other internal matters.

Zoss suggests that the time for division over ideology and political party needs to end, going so far as to suggest dissolving the two major blocs completely and allowing members of the Unity Chamber and Diet to vote on matters without oversight from larger political bloc structures currently in place. She goes on to offer Legacy Bloc members key roles in her administration, for the good of the people, including offering Katali Zebol her position of Offworlder Affairs Minister back. This causes a stir in the meeting, with members of the ruling Unity Bloc protesting such a move. Zebol says she will consider the offer fully, and decide promptly.

This conversation then leads to a discussion of concessions made to the Legacy Bloc, including cultural and spiritual. The exact details of this section of the meeting have not been shared with FNN.

Arts Minister Laluu Zaldo leaves the meeting in protest, after offering her resignation. Zoss accepts the resignation during the moments after Zaldo's exit.

The meeting then turns to discussions over Zaldo's replacement. No details have been given to FNN concerning potential replacements for Zaldo.

Legacy Bloc members push hard for Zelan Zaldo's name to be removed from consideration for Federation Councilor. Zoss reminds everyone that Zelan Zaldo was her chief aide for the last two years, and he has her trust. The meeting goes into a larger discussion of Federation policy, and how it may benefit Eledri Prime. Exact details of this section have not been shared with FNN.

  • There is a break of two hours, with Zoss meeting privately and individually with those in attendance. Details of these private meetings have not been shared with FNN.

  • The group reconvenes to finish the meeting with information on what Zoss intends to say to the people during her global address, and then concludes. Details on the address have not been shared with FNN.

High Minister Zoss is expected to make her address to the Eledri people late this evening, Detak time. What she intends to say is currently anyone's guess, as the previously expected smooth transition appears far less likely after the meeting described here. We've reached out to several parties in attendance, but none have gone on the record officially as of yet. The shock has not worn off the people of Eledri Prime, over the loss of their leader. One has to wonder what will come of the revelation that her death may be an intentional act.

FNN will cover the Global Address live, stay tuned.

BREAKING: High Minister Zoss' Address Spells The End Of Unity Government, Federation Membership For Eledri Prime
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93563

Within the last hour, High Minister Zoss gave an Address to a joint session of the Unity Chamber and Unity Diet. FNN was not allowed to broadcast video of the address, a reprisal for our choice to publish details on an internal meeting early in the day that pointed towards what was said by Zoss tonight. Instead we broadcasted a pool audio feed of the speech, as it played over the public address system outside the Unity Chamber building.

Spoiler: Full TranscriptShow
“It is my solemn duty as your new High Minister to report that the death of Zulana Laozai was the direct result of intentional actions carried out by one of our own people. An assassination carried out by a scientist assigned to the so-called New Origin study. His name is Zank Kaldara, a geneticist of some regard among the scientific community. I can name him here, not because I suspect him of the crime, but because he has admitted to it directly, and furthermore all evidence points to him. He will be punished in the most severe fashion allowable by our laws.”

“He did not act alone though, he had help. The equipment and techniques used to carry out this crime would not have been as readily available if not for the joint efforts of the New Origin labs. Indeed the nature of the crime, the seed of it, was planted in those labs. We don’t have proof of any Rihani involvement, either in planning or carrying out the deed, and we don’t suspect a larger plot, but the truth remains that this would not have happened without their involvement, whether they were aware of it or not. He worked from a lab built in his home to elude discovery, but that lab and the materials used and his method came directly from New Origin research.”

“But we can’t simply point a finger at the Rihani and then wipe our own hands clean of complicity. We played an even larger part in this than they did. Because it was this very government, from the very top to the very bottom, that allowed this research to happen in the first place. We must accept our role in this tragedy if we are ever to learn the lessons of it.”

“Zank Kaldara is not the problem we face, but merely a symptom of it. In his twisted mind he believed his efforts would somehow bring Eledri and Rihani closer together. Indeed his very intent was to create a process to meld our two very different kinds into one at the genetic level. Not to make a hybrid, but to create a wholly new species. He claims that he picked Minister Laozai, because he felt that if she were to be the first of that monstrous plan, if she had somehow survived, she would be compelled to accept and mandate it across Eledri Prime. Zank Kaldara is insane, and if he knew Zulana Laozai, he would have known that she would be the very last person to abandon our kind, or force this sickness on her people.”

“His madness is a symptom of the larger issues that plague us in our modern age. And it grew slowly over the past century as we settled into a Federation style society and began to forget ourselves, our very nature. In welcoming the galaxy to our world, letting their cultures help shape and guide us, we’ve allowed our own culture to be subsumed in the process, we’ve lost our way. Zulana Laozai, as Goddess blessed as she was, felt that such a sacrifice was the way one conducts themself to be a part of something larger. Her predecessors thought the same, but they didn’t pay the ultimate price, as she did.”

“I find myself, in our time of grief, having to decide what course our world should take now. I was not elected by our people; I was selected by Zulana Laozai, and confirmed by this august body, not even a month ago. And yet we find ourselves here, and I must decide. Do we continue along the same path, or do we change course and learn from the errors made? And while some may not want to hear it, errors were made. I for one am the sort that learns from mistakes and corrects for them, as to not repeat them. But while I am the executive of this government, I do not run this world or our system alone. I must rely on the guidance of those elected to represent the people.”

“What I can do is introduce a platform of legislation, for you to vote upon. One I truly feel will right the wrongs of the past century and set us back on the right track. I can nominate cabinet level ministers who will carry out that platform. I can take direct action at the executive level to treat the symptoms of our societal ills directly at the source, but I will require your support to do it.”

“I am proposing a wide-sweeping and bold agenda that will set the tone for a New Eledri Century. It is one that any patriotic Eledri can support, one that looks for unity by holding tight to our legacy. At the conclusion of this address, I will present the first important parts of this agenda to the President of the Unity Chamber, and the Leaders of all parties in this hall. It will not be easily accomplished, and it only starts tonight. We will roll out important additions to it over the coming months, and we will put it to a vote while our people watch live, let them see for themselves who has the courage to stand up for our world, and let them see who won’t.”

“We call ourselves the Eledri Unity, but it's clear that we are not as unified as we would like to project outwardly. There is a quiet majority out there who simply tolerate the way things are, because it is easier to be complacent than it is to fight for what you believe in. Goddess, I’ve been guilty of that myself, we all have. I’ve spent the past two years trying to deal with the Federation council, fighting to get us all a larger place at the table, only to take a back seat to far more established powers within that institution, all the while allowing them to dictate to us, changing our own society for their approval.”

“We don’t need it, we never have. I know better than most, I’ve dealt with the inner mechanisms of the machine, I’ve studied it closely. We would be well served to abandon it, before we lose ourselves totally to it. I believe that an Eledri can do anything she puts her mind to, we are all Goddess blessed.”

“So will you show true unity now, as we move forward, or is it just a name we gave ourselves?”

“al’Zedai, al’Eledri!”

Directly following the address, we're told that Zoss indeed carried out her promise and delivered the first pieces of her agenda:

  • The first was an internal vote among members of the Unity Bloc's Liberty Party to affirm Zoss as the party leader, the vote was unanimous.

  • The next vote was for a vote to support full secession from the United Federation of Planets. An attempt was made to sabotage the vote by parties within the Unity Bloc, with calls to leave the hall and rob Zoss of a quorum, but all members of the Liberty Party remained, allowing enough members to carry the motion to vote forward. A number of Unity Bloc members remained behind to cast their votes in opposition, but the final vote for secession was 153 to 28. Effectively removing Eledri Prime from the Federation, pending official notification to the Federation Council by Zoss.

  • The next vote was to unify the Liberty and Legacy parties into one, this vote was unanimous. In effect, it signals the end to the Unity government, replacing it with the new Legacy Government.

  • The next vote was for several items in Zoss' agenda, including consolidating numerous cabinet positions into fewer positions, revoking tourist visa for offworlders currently on Eledri Prime or planning visits, and banning all research and education based on the New Origin theory. This vote passed easily as well.

Zoss seems to have focused her new agenda on isolationism, but spokespeople have expressed to the local news media that tonight's shocking developments were necessary to carry out the larger agenda, which will be unveiled over the next few months. Zoss' administration is expected to bring her cabinet nominees to the Legacy Chamber and Legacy Diet in the coming weeks. Obviously this development means that Federation Councilor Selectee Zelan Zaldo's confirmation is void, though some still believe he may play some part in the new government, due to his close ties to Zoss.

Details on when and how Offworlder visitors must depart Eledri Prime have yet to be released, though we're being told that information will be forthcoming.

FNN will continue to cover this surprising and quickly moving story as best we're able to do so. Please stay tuned.

Last Minute Legal Maneuver Attempts To Block Eledri Tourist Visa Revocation
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Dodge City, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93581.2

A class action filed on behalf of a group of one-hundred and one Ferengi citizens to block the announced tourist visa revocation set to start on Stardate 93584.5, was successful, at least in the al'Dodge province of Eledri Prime. The Regional Court of Laws for the al'Dodge province ruled six to one to block the forced exodus of tourists, and moved the matter to the High Court of Laws in Eledri Prime's capital of Detak. In effect, halting any plans to remove tourists from the al'Dodge province, until the higher court rules on the matter.

The case brought by the group of Ferengi, cited portions of the Eledri constitution related to the rights of Offworlders, both citizens and guests. That section borrows heavily from the Federation rulings on the same legal matters. As part of its ruling the al'Dodge court stated, "While the Eledri Legacy may have pulled out of the Federation as its first official act, the constitution still affords rights to Eledri, Offworlders, Citizens and Guests, and legally we can't ignore that."

Back in Detak, the ruling isn't sitting well with the new Legacy government, who sent a team from the Ministry of Information to defend the Revocation before the al'Dodge court. And of this report, the Ministry of Security say they still plan to carry out the order to revoke visas, and remove tourists from Eledri Prime in the other provinces while the case is being considered by the High Court. The case hasn't been given a date as of yet, but if the High Court rules in favor of the Ferengi, it could make the revocation and forced remove illegal planet-wide. Conversely, if the High Court strikes down the ruling of the al'Dodge province, it might signal an end to any obstacles the Legacy government has in its original plans.

The ruling itself has caused a bit of a migration, with tourists attempting to move from other provinces to al'Dodge, most choosing Dodge City in specific. We're being told that there has been an over 300% increase in transporter activity between the Dodge City hub and other provinces on Eledri Prime, and travel by shuttle and ground car have seen a significant uptick as well. While such a move may prevent some from being deported in the short term, it will be the ruling of the High Court in Detak which will determine what will happen long term.

Please continue to follow FNN as we cover all matters related to this case, and the quickly evolving situation in Eledri Prime.

BREAKING: Visa Exodus Upheld By Eledri High Court
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93584.3

The Eledri Prime High Court of Laws has struck down the ruling of a lower regional court, allowing the Legacy Ministry of Security to begin the process of removing any remaining Offworlder tourists from the system. The decision was split six to five in favor of allowing the Legacy Government to revoke Class A and B tourist visas, and forcibly remove tourists who had not already left by the end of a one week grace period. That grace period is set to end in a couple of hours, as of the time of this report's release.

While it's believed a great many tourists have already made their way from the system, it is believed far more remain on the two habitable planets of the Eledri System. The Legacy Government has arranged for passage for those that remain, and will transport them from Eledri's system to the Federation colony of April's Landing, across the Kassae sector. Sources on April's Landing have told us under the promise of anonymity that the colony is ill-prepared to handle the massive influx of tourists the exodus will create. And that assistance from both Deep Space K-7, and Deep Space Thirteen have been called in to assist with the potential logistical nightmare scenario.

The scene in Dodge City was tense as countless tourists who had moved to the al'Dodge province to escape forced removal, waited for the ruling that has essentially ended any delay to the Legacy Government's original plans. Disappointment, both from tourists and locals rang out when the ruling was filed and released to the media. Personnel from the Ministry of Security moved in to maintain order, and also prepare to enforce the ruling itself. Demonstrations were carried out against the move by a massive throng of people in Dodge City's Hood Plaza, with estimates putting the number close to half a million. It remained mostly peaceful with very few arrests, according to Ministry officials, although this claim has been disputed by witnesses who claim they saw Security personnel round up protesters in the thousands.

Legacy officials refuse to give FNN a timetable for expected completion of the forced tourist exodus, and have not answered questions about the type of ships to be used for transport, or addressed any security concerns, when the questions have been put to them.

FNN will continue to cover this breaking news event as it continues.

EXCLUSIVE: Inside Source Speaks of Romulan Threats Against Eledri Prime
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN Detak, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93593.4

A high level member of the Zoss administration has given an exclusive interview to FNN, under the promise of anonymity, to make public the content of a correspondence between High Minister Zoss and an unnamed member of the Romulan Republic senate. Since the death of High Minister Laozai, Romulan scientists assigned to the joint study of the New Origin theory, have been detained by Legacy Security officials. The Legacy officials claim these forty scientists are assisting in the investigation of the alleged assassination, while opponents of the new government are openly calling them hostages and political bargaining chips. Whatever the truth is, the fact remains that behind the scenes negotiations to ensure their release have gone on since mere hours after Zoss first took office to replace Laozai, according to our source.

Our source goes on to describe a diplomatic visit by the new Security Minister Katali Zebol, who traveled to Starfleet's Deep Space Thirteen to meet with Romulan Republic Commander General Rellir t’Lhaihtrha. This visit has been verified by the public record at DS13, and apparently led to an agreement of terms to return the scientists at a neutral location. Following her visit to the Starbase, we're told Zebol traveled personally to deliver requested medical supplies to the Independent Romulan colony of Terix II, before returning to Eledri Prime. According to our source, the Zoss administration was moving forward with the understanding that the details were set, and that the actual transfer was to follow in the coming days. And while the time and location are not public knowledge, we were told nothing had changed from the Legacy side.

Our source contacted FNN to detail portions of a series of messages exchanged between the Eledri Legacy and the Romulan Republic, which according to the source included a threat of major military action, and an attempt to carry out a raid to recover their scientists. We're told language included the following quote, "...[The Romulan Republic] government will send a fleet large enough to eclipse the sun on your little world..." And then goes on to describe the scientists as hostages, which mirrors the same sort of rhetoric used by members of the minority Unity Bloc, who have called for the immediate release of the scientists from Eledri custody, and for transparency concerning the treatment of a number of Eledri geneticists who were also part of the New Origin study, as well as former Science Minister Zinea Toldai, who has been detained, but not charged, in connection with the death of Laozai.

No member of the Zoss administration was willing to go on the record publically to confirm these claims openly, but off the record a number of them seem willing to confirm the details, which according to our source were shared by Zoss herself with a number of key advisors, the purpose to determine a course of action in response to the provocative messages. We've been unsuccessful with attempts to contact officials within the Republic senate to confirm the story from their end, but FNN will continue to attempt to do so.

BREAKING: Leaked Kaldara Confession Contradicts Legacy Government Reports
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN al'Loviva VAZ, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93773.2

After months of repeated claims and speculation from the Eledri Legacy government, that confessed assassin Zank Kaldara had killed High Minister Zulana Laozai as part of a larger conspiracy with connections to the former Unity Government and elements of the Romulan Republic Navy, new evidence has been leaked out of the Ministry of Security by a source within that institution. This evidence contrasts with the official story, directly contradicting what the Legacy government had been telling its citizens about the case. While we are not at liberty to divulge the source of the evidence, we can state with a high level of certainty that it is authentic, and we've had it verified by experts in electronic and audio forensics.

The evidence came to FNN's newly established bureau in the Vulcan Autonomous Zone's capital of al'Loviva, after several backchannel discussions with the source. What it contains is the confession of Zank Kaldara while in Legacy government custody, along with his full explanation for why he carried out the act that sent this world into turmoil so few months ago. The confession is a chilling look into the mind of a man who has been used by the Legacy government to sway the population of Eledri Prime towards what it terms, "National Atavism." After consulting with VAZ Administrator T'lok, we feel we can broadcast this confession in full, and that doing so will not put the refugees in the VAZ, or the local Syranite population in undue danger.

Kaldara's own words point to a motive completely different than what has been claimed by the Legacy's Ministry of Security. He seems less a conspirator in cahoots with the Unity or Republic governments, and more akin to elements of a religious sect known on Eledri Prime as "the Purists". A group who have long been identified with the same general theory as those in the New Origin study, but with a zealotous bent towards discovering what they call "The Goddess Code." It's aims being a full reversion to an original Eledri form. The Purists have long been a marginalized part of Eledri culture, and had been thought all but extinct, though Kaldara's own confession suggests he didn't act alone.

While the findings of the New Origin study have been peer reviewed, and continue to gain increasing acceptance among the greater scientific community, no such acceptance has been given to the Purists, or their own theories and aims.

The Legacy government has issued no reply to our requests for a statement on this newly released evidence, and continues its complete boycott of all media outlets outside of the local sphere. Meanwhile, our source claims that Kaldara is still alive, despite suggestions that he might be the first convicted murderer in over two centuries to be executed for his crimes on Eledri soil. Whether or not the Legacy government plans to kill Kaldara is still unknown, as is the answer to his chilling request for a lab to research this Goddess Code, though our source gave no indication that such cooperation was currently underway.

With the specter of possible research on Vulcan DNA, the VAZ authority have told FNN it intends to heighten security within the zone, as a "logical precaution." T'lok herself today taking the dramatic step of announcing that the New Origin study results are "seemingly irrefutable," makes her the first person on Eledri Prime in an position of authority to take that stance since Laozai's death. Such a move can only cause continued tension on the planet. The VAZ itself has been under increased strain as of late, due to the continued influx of Eledri citizens along with their families, many of them expats from across two quadrants. A call of aide from powers outside the Eledri system has not come as of now, but it may eventually be unavoidable.

Legacy Security have set up a taskforce to deal with defections to the VAZ, monitoring transporter usage, migration over land, and shuttle traffic in range of the zone. While these efforts have been mostly successful, many still stream into al'Loviva on a daily basis. We do not feel comfortable describing the nature of this mass migration further, as it might put people in a dangerous situation.

FNN will continue to cover the aftermath of this new evidence, and the continued refugee situation in al'Loviva as it continues to develop.

BREAKING: Legacy Ministry of Security Destroyed In Bombing, Thousands Feared Dead Including Minister Zebol
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN al'Loviva VAZ, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93873.8

FNN has verified local reports out of Eledri Prime's capital of Detak that the Legacy's Ministry of Security headquarters has been destroyed by a series of deliberate explosions. The bombings began at 0928 hours this morning, during the ministry building's busiest period, and lasted for nearly fifteen minutes. Early estimates place the death toll at 9,500, though that number is expected to change as the investigation is carried out. The explosions also damaged the nearby vicinity, leveling a number of related office buildings which were used by the security ministry and other government agencies and the ministry's maximum security prison facility, which held hundreds of convicted criminals and suspects awaiting trial.

Among those feared dead, the Legacy Government's second in command, Security Minister Katali Zebol along with her entire senior staff, who were in a scheduled briefing near the epicenter of the blast. Early reports have stated that emergency transport systems and force field shielding units were not activated as they should have been, and that this malfunction may have been due to an act of sabotage prior to the attack, though those claims have not been independently verified by FNN. Currently, search and recovery teams are on-sight and medical facilities in the City 14 district of Detak are on high alert. An unnamed but verified source within the Legacy government has told FNN that they do not expect survivors within the ministry building itself, calling the bombing, "...effective and devastating." The attack has been characterized to FNN as planned and precisely so.

High Minister Zoss has declared a State of Emergency and martial law in Detak. The Executive Palace has gone on full lockdown, and a twenty kilometer radius around the government center has been cleared of all non-government personnel. Resources have been allocated to both the rescue operation and the investigation of the attack. And while no group has come forward to publicly claim responsibility, local media reports in Detak are attributing it to "Anti-Legacy terrorists with connections to groups loyal to the Federation and Romulan Republic." Representatives from both governments have vehemently denied any connection to this attack, and the phrasing of media reports seem more likely meant to implicate the government of the Vulcan Autonomous Zone of al'Loviva, though indirectly.

VAZ Administrator T'lok has denied any connection between her government, and the bombings, characterizing the attack as, "...an unfortunate act, brought about by preventable and illogical circumstances." Tensions along the al'Loviva provincial border, which were already high, are expected to be ratcheted up due to the attack. Officials in the VAZ and elements of the former Unity Party bloc who have made it into the refugee zone continue to call on the Legacy Government to hold free and fair elections, monitored by a neutral third party arbiter, though such requests have fallen on deaf ears within the halls of power in Detak. T'lok has called the current situation on Eledri Prime, "...tenuous and unsustainable in the long term, and incompatible with the history of Eledri Prime and the ideal of freedom in the short term."

Back in Detak, the Underminister of Information, Lidona Xans made a midday statement explaining the nature of the enhanced security in Detak, along with a pledge to discover the facts of this attack and bring all parties responsible to justice. When asked about Zebol's replacement, Xans implied that it was too early and in bad taste to speculate on the order of succession, but that all necessary steps were being carried out to ensure the safety of High Minister Zoss. She also claimed that initial investigations have shown that cabrodine explosives were used in the bombings. The material, while fairly common and easily attainable elsewhere, is non-existent naturally on Eledri Prime, and illegal to trade, buy or sell by local law. Xans speculated that the use of cabrodine pointed to an off-worlder source, and used the attack as justification of Minister Zebol's visa revocation ruling, earlier this year.

FNN will continue to monitor this situation as best we're able, from al'Loviva, as requests for press credentials and visas to visit Detak have been denied by Legacy Government officials. We will bring you any new credible updates as we become aware of them.

DEVELOPING: Liberty Brigade Claims Responsibility For Deadly Coordinated Attacks Across al'San and al'Dodge Provinces
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN al'Loviva VAZ, Eledri Prime
Stardate 93960.4

FNN has verified reports coming from the al'San and al'Dodge provinces about a coordinated attack against fifteen facilities owned by three corporations with past ties to the former Unity regime, along with other symbolic targets. Initial reports suggest that the death toll reaches into the hundreds, though FNN is unable to confirm those numbers. The main targets of the attacks appear to be three corporations, Dodge Aerospace, Xalzo Fabrication, and Splendor Holostudios. All three companies are based on Eledri Prime, but have offworlder board members and strong ties to the former Unity government and Federation interests across two quadrants. A number of additional targets were hit as well. They include the headquarters of al'Zanloz Media group, which has been arguably the local news outlet most critical of the new Legacy government. The Freeworks Andre Freeman Leadership Academy, which had halted construction after the visa exodus, was also leveled, along with Breck Casino Interests, a Ferengi owned manufacturer of gaming and entertainment technologies.

Legacy government officials have put out a statement condemning the attacks and a vow to investigate and bring those responsible to justice. We can confirm that the Ministry of Security has dispatched a number of investigation teams to the target sites, as well as medical teams to treat any survivors. High Minister Zoss said, "These actions do not represent this government, and we consider them acts of senseless terrorism. No justification, political, economic or religious can excuse the murder of Eledri citizens. We are better than those who carried out the City 14 attack, we will not lower ourselves to their level, nor let Vulcani or Humani outsiders push us to such crimes." A spokesperson for Zoss added that any attempt by those within the Vulcan Autonomous Zone of al'Loviva to take advantage of these attacks would be met with a swift and absolute response.

The attacks have been claimed by the Liberty Brigade, which is a known ultra-nationalist terror group, also responsible for the murder earlier this year of an entire civilian freighter crew, and the bombing on Deep Space Thirteen, which targeted the Romulan scientists at the head of the New Origins study, but claimed the life of Captain Andre Freeman. The claim was made via an encrypted subspace message, in the moments preceding the attack, and lists all targets hit. The Liberty Brigade, which was thought dismantled after a Starfleet operation earlier in the year, seems to only be emboldened. They also announced that more attacks will follow, and demand the immediate release of any comrades being held in Federation facilities, awaiting trial.

When asked for comment on the day's terrible events, VAZ Administrator T'lok said, "We grieve for those lost so senselessly, as we grieve for everyone and everything lost in the illogic of the past year. This is not Eledri Prime, and these are not the actions of the Eledri as I have come to know them. One hopes madness will be replaced with sanity and peace once more. We call for thoughtfulness and calm, we call for logic to prevail. We stand in unity with all Eledri who see what is happening now with their eyes, and can see what the eventual outcome of this path will be with their minds. It is not too late."

FNN will continue to report the situation as we become aware of new developments.

BREAKING: Security Forces Crackdown On Detak Demonstrations
Reported by Valerie De Labardo - FNN al'Loviva VAZ, Eledri Prime
Stardate 94007.2

FNN has learned from sources in the Eledri capital of Detak, that a massive city-wide demonstration was held by citizens unhappy with the current state of political affairs by the ruling Legacy Government. Estimates put the number of protesters in the hundreds of thousands, with some claiming it was over million in total, many of them carrying banners of the former Unity party along with those of the UFP, United Earth, Vulcan Confederacy and even the Romulan Republic. For a time, these demonstrations were being allowed, but that all seemed to change by midday when the numbers grew much higher. Local media played a part, adding momentum to the event with their coverage of it, until suddenly there seemed to be a coordinated media blackout of the protests.

While many factors reportedly led to the protests, the timing seems to indicate that they were mostly spurred by what is being referred to as the Zoss Memo; a set of unilateral executive orders that have effectively curtailed the civil liberties of the citizens of Eledri Prime. Most notably among the orders in the Zoss Memo are forced pheromone inhibition by vaccine, a new law that prohibits the use of telepathy without a government issued permit, a redefinition of voting rights, a limit on travel between provinces and compulsory enlistment of all Eledri over the age of fifteen into either the Civil Defense, Security Forces or other government bureaus for no less than two years.

In addition, the Zoss Memo also claims the authority to pull out of the Treaty of 2308, with the Vulcan Confederacy. That treaty allows for the Vulcan Autonomous Zone in the province of al'Loviva. High Minister Zoss' Legacy government claims the treaty is illegal under new laws passed recently by the Eledri Diet, and calls for the unconditional removal of all Vulcan citizens living within the VAZ. It also provides a sort of limited amnesty to those who have gone to al'Loviva, as refugees, to avoid last year's visa exodus, along with former Eledri citizens who made the dangerous trek to escape the Legacy authority, offering relocation for the refugees and conditional reinstatement of citizenship for the Eledri within the zone. It also mandates that all Eledri living off-world must reapply for citizenship, and that none can hold dual citizenship, which would affect over ten million Eledri currently not living in their home system.

All executive orders contained within the Zoss Memo are set to go into effect on Stardate 94084.9, which gives the population of Eledri Prime twenty-nine days to prepare for the largest set of changes in Eledri law and culture since Zoss took power after the assassination of High Minister Laozai. It would seem by the size and scope of the demonstrations that the Zoss Memo is unpopular with a large segment of the Eledri, who in the last year have gone through the greatest amount of political upheaval since joining the United Federation of Planets, over a century ago. A people unaccustomed to political protests, the Eledri have for the most part taken the changes of the past year in stride, but that all seemed to change today. And what occurred today is likely to have a lasting effect on the attitudes of all Eledri, regardless of what side of the political spectrum they fall on.

While reports from the demonstration are coming to FNN second-hand due to the government imposed media embargo, we've been told that in the early evening, security forces backed up with members of the Civil Defense began their attempts to end the demonstration by force, after calls to disperse were made, only to be ignored by most protesters. Tactics reportedly included mass stunning, forced transportation and physical violence in areas where protesters clashed directly with security. What followed was framed to us as a general sense of chaos, brutality and confusion. Government property and media outlets were vandalized by demonstrators, which only led to harsher reprisals. While no firm numbers exist for casualties, some are claiming that they witnessed both death and severe injury, and place the figures in the tens of thousands. What video exists of the protests seem to verify the reports coming in from our sources on the ground in Detak.

Requests for comment from the Legacy government and the VAZ Administration have gone unanswered as of the time of this report. If those requests are answered, we will report on them promptly. Please stay tuned to FNN for all developments.
