LOCATION: U.S.S. Atlantis (NCC-2020) on station at Deep Space 9.

MISSION: Develop a method whereby Hur'q may be detected in advance of a potential attack; and, bring Deep Space 9 to defensive readiness.

OUTCOME: Successful development of an interferometric sensor method intended to detect Hur'q usage of gravimetric and electromagnetic fields as a part of their navigation and communication. Successful assignment of U.S.S. Atlantis engineering team with practicable defensive plan to bring DS9 to standard defensive readiness. Additional time will allow for improvements on standard defensive capabilities.

KEY PERSONNEL:
RDML Konieczko, Task Force Commander
CMDR Caspius, U.S.S. Atlantis, commanding
LCDR J. Kermit, U.S.S. Atlantis Executive Officer
LCDR Sul, U.S.S. Atlantis Chief Tactical/Security Officer
LCDR Sedai, U.S.S. Atlantis Chief Counselor
LT Seral, U.S.S. Atlantis Chief Science Officer
LT Kelda, U.S.S. Atlantis, engineering officer

NARRATIVE: On Stardate 94531.3 at 22:00 shipboard time, senior officers of the U.S.S. Atlantis convened with Rear Admiral Konieczko (38th Fleet Local Task Force Commander) to discuss how to facilitate Task Force objectives at Deep Space 9. After a brief operational overview of the role of the U.S.S. Atlantis in the task force, Commander Caspius (U.S.S. Atlantis, commanding) explained two key objectives for U.S.S. Atlantis personnel: to restore Deep Space 9 to full defensive readiness, and improve that capacity if possible; and, to devise a means to detect Hur'q in advance of their attacks. Additionally: extra personnel were requisitioned for relief efforts on Bajor.

Following Hur'q assaults, Deep Space 9 defensive systems were offline, and some weapon systems had been destroyed. In addition, there was significant structural damage, especially to areas of the upper pylons. After some discussion of the current situation, Lieutenant Kelda (U.S.S. Atlantis, Engineering) offered to take the lead role in restoring Deep Space 9 to defensive readiness. To assist him, Lieutenant Commander Xavala Sul (U.S.S. Atlantis, Tactical/Security) was assigned as an expert in defensive systems. Fifty-two hours (two Bajoran/DS9 days) were alloted for the restoration of defensive capabilities: LCDR Sul estimated that with round-the-clock teams and the full array of U.S.S. Atlantis engineering personnel, it would be possible to achieve the desired outcome within fifty hours. Lieutenant Commander James Kermit (U.S.S. Atlantis Executive Officer) was placed in direct overall command of this engineering and tactical mission on Deep Space 9.

During the presence of U.S.S. Atlantis on station at Deep Space 9, the ship's science department has been researching Hur'q communication and navigation methods. Lieutenant Seral (U.S.S. Atlantis, Science) determined that the Hur'q utilise local gravimetric sources as centres for their navigation, and that they employ electromagnetic fields as a function of their communcation. Consequently, LT Seral suggested that it may be possible to modify Class VI probes with the necessary interferometer technology to allow them to detect these gravimetric and electromagnetic effects. A system of probes, acting in concert, could relay the information, providing an early warning network of Hur'q activity within range of the deployed probes. RDML Konieczko approved the development and deployment of this technology throughout the fleet upon successful completion. CMDR Caspius was in direct overall command of this research mission aboard the U.S.S. Atlantis.

Following the meetring proper, LCDR Sedai noted that more personnel would be useful for the purposes of relief efforts on Bajor. Consequent to this, CMDR Caspius made a request through Deep Space 13 operations for any available personnel, including additional counselors and diplomats copacetic to the task. In a follow-up soon thereafter, the official personnel request was placed at 30-35 people, and the request was updated accordingly. Deep Space 13 crew are expected to make up half of the requested balance, with a further 15-20 personnel drawn from nonessential personnel in the counseling and medical departments of other ships in the local Task Force.

RECOMMENDATION: With the successful construction of Hur'q swarm detection technology, the sensor modifications should be deployed fleet-wide and forwarded to Starfleet Command for more general operational deployment; and, probes should be deployed to extend the range of the sensor detection network.

In addition, fleet command should facilitate LCDR Sedai's request for additional relief personnel on Bajor. These personnel, insofar as they have emergency medical training, may be of assistance to CMDR Pohl, as well.

OOC: Once the engineering team completes its 50-hour tour of duty (more, if they want to make those defences better than 'standard'), they should publish an AAR indicating successful completion of their mission, which is taken to be 'ongoing' at the time this AAR was written. If I have forgotten anything you'd like me to include, or misrepresented your character's actions, let me know in a PM and I will update this AAR accordingly.
