NARRATIVE: This officer was present aboard U.S.S. Pegasus due to an ongoing social matter not relevant to the events of the report. Captain Nimitz had been indisposed during a distress call, and Commander O'Dara assumed her position as acting captain. We linked up with a friendly Starfleet vessel in the region captained by Commander Peter and discovered the cargo vessel was attacked by old Klingon vessels.

This officer discovered the following from a cursory investigation:
1) The Klingon ships were decommissioned following the conclusion of the Dominion War.

2) It appears that the yard they were mothballed in had chronic problems with corruption, with Ferengi businessmen bribing dockworkers for ships.

3) There has been no record of violence in the area following the conclusion of the war with the Klingon Empire.

Following the establishment of communication, it would appear that the crew of the Klingon vessels were large arachnid sapients. How they acquired their ships remains a mystery, but context clues in the dialogue suggest that they only recently achieved FTL.

The arachnids remained fervent in their desire to maintain border security, and that includes attacking any ships inside what they claim to be their territory whether we know and recognize it or do not. Following a ceasefire, preliminary discussions began. In the end, Starfleet took the cargo vessel to Deep Space 13 and the arachnids would not attack them or us.

RECOMMENDATION: Recommend a travel warning in the area be implemented until the situation is dealt with.

Recommend Diplomatic Corps immediately be dispatched to establish territorial borders and safe passage.

OOC: Thanks to Nimitz for DMing, and having along the ArgoRecruiting candidate was fun.
