NARRATIVE Following leads gathered in a previous intelligence mission regarding possible locations of the rogue Etnoziroh, the U.S.S. Mariner was deployed under silent running conditions to the Ralin system.

Upon arrival at Ralin, the Mariner performed long range interrogative scans before proceeding. It was found that in close Ralin orbit were four superheavy cargo freighters in the process of being unloaded. Contained within one of these vessels was a very large quantity of raw neutronium- enough even to satiate the Federation’s industry for some time. The hold of this vessel was only one quarter full, and in the process of being unloaded. It is inconclusive as to whether they had just begun, or had emptied far more materiel before we arrived. Additionally, faint traces of verteron radiation were found at the edge of the system, hinting at recent use of an Azedi wormhole.

Given the apparent previous presence of an Azedi wormhole, the presence of large quantities of neutronium, and the assumption that the only known Azedi wormhole generator lay at the heart of the rogue Etnoziroh, the senior staff came to the conclusion that the Ralin were in possession of the dreadnought.

It was at this moment that the science officer, ensign Vemok, noted that nearby stars were giving off unusual spectographic readings. It was immediately suspected that this may be a result of the Etnoziroh mining their cores. The Mariner immediately got underway to investigate. Upon arrival, it was quickly surmised that several stars in the local area had been used as a testing site for stellar mining operations using Azedi wormholes.

Following this confirmation of our suspicions, the Mariner set a course for the nearest neutron star. Upon arrival, to our great surprise, we were met with the sight of an Etnoziroh-class dreadnought and her escorts. However, this was clearly not the same ship that the Mariner and her crew have been hunting. The Mariner remained undetected, and performed an analysis.

The Etnoziroh was in poor condition, with several large rents in her hull that had been patched with more mundane material- she was in no shape to do battle. Our analysis reported no match to any previously identified Etnoziroh.

The escorts consisted of a new class of the Ralin navy. The vessels were equipped with matter/antimatter reactors, warp field generators, and Klingon offensive and defensive systems. While not on par with modern Federation starships, these vessels seemed more than capable of holding their own against local threats.

After the completion of the analysis, having not been detected by the Ralin, the Mariner departed the area as to avoid any potential entanglement before being advised by 38th command.

RECOMMENDATION It is this officer’s opinion that the Ralin mining operations should not be directly interfered with in accordance with general order one. However, it may be prudent to discreetly inquire about the matter using diplomatic channels.

While it remains a possibility that the Ralin are also in posession of the rogue Etnoziroh, this seems unlikely. The Mariner should continue its investigation with the end goal of forestalling any further interference in Federation interests in the region.
