MISSION Facilitating a cultural exchange between the Federation and the Thyrivi people.
OUTCOME Cultural exchange seemed to go well, lots of happy faces all around except for CAPT Mirazuni.

NARRATIVE Captain Mirazuni and myself arrived on Tyrion V and were informed that another diplomat, previously assigned to this task had been taken ill “by too much partying” and that we were to fill the role instead. With little time to plan, and figuring that “sport” would be the easiest out of the four possibilities for cultural exchange presented (Sports, Art, Debate or Theatre production) I took the initiative.
What I didn’t know is that we would be speaking to children. My first suggestion was that we try football, given it would be easy to set up on the beach we were on with simple enough rules as well as my experience with the game. Interestingly enough it turns out the Thyrivi independently from any human influence have a very similar sport they call “Skuzball”.
I had the Opportunity beam down some holoemitters that could generate some goals, however Captain Mirazuni then suggested we play volleyball instead. I agreed, given that playing a game they were all familiar with probably wasn’t as good for a cultural exchange, and it seemed to be the only way of getting my fellow Captain actually engaged with the process.
We lost three points to four. Captain Mirazuni is a far better volleyball player than I am, though if this was football, the “Oppy Crew” and I would have easily had this, especially given the skill shown by the local Thyrivi at their version of it. I think the Federation team might have some trouble in the league against these guys given a few more years.
RECOMMENDATION While the outcome was positive, I feel like both myself and Captain Mirazuni would have benefitted from having a little more time to plan, though as far as I can tell this wasn’t a possibility.
