MISSION Recover Away Team. Prepare for System Departure

OUTCOME Unexpected arrival of Ferengi Mining group. Ferengi did not heed warnings of Okchii Pulsar. Ferengi rescued at great risk to 10th CAG personnel.
KEY PERSONNEL

  • Captain Lunya Vel
  • Commander Riasull Dellir
  • Lieutenant Commander Jeiliscia Valusia, MD
  • Lieutenant Lalaa Drush
  • Lieutenant Vella Vardi, MD

NARRATIVE On Stardate 100904.0, USS Forrestal was in the process of recovering fighters, small craft, and the deployed away team from Okchii I in effort to leave the system and return to available duty. Previous request for system ban was declined, however a travel advisory was placed on the system. At this time, departure was deemed appropriate.

Immediately upon the return of the away team, long range sensors reported the arrival of two unknown contacts in the system. Commander Dellir deployed fighters to make visual contact with the arrivals and it was determined that the contacts were identified as a Ferengi D’Kora Class Marauder (Durgon’s Treasure) and an unspecified class of Mining Vessel (Latinum Prize). Once in range, communications contact was made with the lead ship.

Upon engaging initial communications with a Captain Durgon, it was determined that the Ferengi vessels were in the system, against the warnings of the travel advisory, to mine minerals on Okchii II. It was attempted to advise Captain Durgon about the Pulsar that is Okchii A. It was advised that there was a safe travel route into the system, however both Ferengi ships decline to follow the route of the navigation markers, and made course direct for Okchii II.

During extended communication with Captain Durgon by Captain Vel (Communications handled by Dr. Valusia for cross-training purposes), Captain Durgon accused the Federation of trying to interrupt his rights to mine. It was again stated that his rights to mine were not at risk, that the life of him and his crews were, due to the hazards of the star system. Captain Durgon ignored this warning, and instead fired a warning shot at one of the shadowing Peregrines deployed by Forrestal.

In response to this, Yellow Alert was ordered, and a command to raise shields was given due to the sudden aggressive nature of the warning shot. Before further actions could be taken, Doctor Vardi, who was manning sensors (again for cross-training purposes), gave an immediate cover order for Forrestal’s small craft near the Ferengi ships. It was at this time, Okchii A rotated in direction of the Ferengi ships, who were outside of any orbital shadow, and focused intense radiation was inflicted on both vessels.

Contact was re-established with Durgon’s Treasure, and First Officer Grell responded, stating their Captain was deceased and that both ships had major casualties on all decks. Rescue shuttles from Forrestal were mobilized immediately, in addition to all available runabouts. Runabouts were instructed to tow both Ferengi vessels to Forrestal’s location in the safety of Okchii I’s shadow.

Doctors Valusia and Vardi were released from their bridge stations to begin establishing treatment areas aboard Forrestal, utilizing both the sick bay and cargo bay four. A security Red Alert was declared, for the purposes of containing irradiated patients in secure areas so that the Forrestal was not put at extended risk.

At this time, both Ferengi vessels were declared a full loss by both Forrestal engineers and surviving Ferengi crew who were well enough to assist in an integrity evaluation of the Ferengi ships. Both were moved a safe distance from Forrestal and summarily scuttled.

Casualty figures for both Ferengi vessels are listed at 197 dead, 102 wounded.

Please see medical reports for details of triage and treatment of survivors.

RECOMMENDATION Recommend further listing of Okchii system as a travel hazard. Contact Ferengi Commerce Authority in regards to loss of two vessels. Refuse payment to same for loss of those vessels, as cause of loss is in direct correlation to poor judgement of Captain Durgon.

RECOGNITION Recognition to Commander Dellir for astute handling of Forrestal’s deployed fighter and shuttle assets. To Doctors Valusia and Vardi for their skilled operation of their stations during cross-training, and then excellent medical acumen for their treatment of wounded Ferengi crew. Recognition to Lieutenant Drush for her tactical awareness and preparedness during tense moments between Forrestal and Ferengi vessels.

OOC This was the final event of the Okchii Mission chain. Thank you to all who participated!

ADDENDUM
Medical report as follows:

Casualties on the side of the Ferengi mining team were as reported with 197 dead and 102 wounded. From the 102 wounded all of which have extensive radiation poisoning with tissue burn, 67 are expected to make a full recovery with proper treatment over time, 33 have serious organ damage, 30 are now blind or suffering from severe degradation in visual perception, 12 have neuralgia in 1 or more extremities, and 22 suffer from varying degrees of cognitive mental degradation.

As one might infer there is much overlap in symptoms. See full report attached for the detailed breakdown.

Also expected is that the most severe injuries occurred on the bridge and other outer most, unshielded locations in the Ferengi vessels with most of the deaths occurring onboard the lightly shielded mining vessel, the Latinum Prize.

Decontamination is ongoing, with some resistance as there are a few of the injured claiming we are “taking what is rightfully theirs”, despite most of the articles and possessions of the crew being irradiated beyond the reasonable ability to decontaminate. For the safety of those who are more caution minded than avaricious, we are recycling most everything brought with.

RECOMMENDATION It is most imperative that the previously recommended advisory is disseminated as quickly as possible, or else we will see more casualties among the covetous and the curious, as well as those that are tasked with rescuing them. If this system wishes to be left alone, planet included, then so be it.

RECOGNITION LT Vella Vardi, for her initiative in instigating the triage.
