NARRATIVE On Stardate 99783.6, and in response to orders given by 38th Fleet Command, USS Midway responded to Research Station Kappa Epsilon in an effort to obtain status of the station, as it had not checked in at its requested interval.

Upon arrival at the station’s location, it was immediately determined that the station had sustained considerable exterior damage, and appeared to be venting atmospheric gasses. A quick visual of the location revealed that a Borg Collective Sphere had positioned itself near the station, and was most likely the cause of the attack. Ship was ordered to immediate red alert and shields were raised. To prevent transporter intercept, a security team, lead by LCDR zh’Vhenda was ordered to Runabout Devraux to attempt rescue of the ten humanoid life signs determined to still be on the station. At this time Midway was ordered to shield the runabout from attack and an emergency transmission on all Federation frequencies was sent.

Moving to engage the Sphere, orders were given to fire available weapons, and CMDR Akaela conceived a unique attack to fire a quantum torpedo in a random direction and then bait the sphere into striking that warhead. During this engagement period, Midway was struck numerous times, losing weapons briefly. Continued hits from plasma torpedoes and kinetic cutting beams would result in damage to sensor systems, various hull damage and breaches. Engineering teams, at the direction of LCDR Flynn and LT Drush performed emergency repairs. Damage to the sensors on deck 3 resulted in systems damage on the bridge, causing the destruction of several terminals, causing flash fire burns to CAPT Vel and LT Drush. LCDR Wescott provided immediate emergency aid at this time to both wounded. During these attacks, a small contingent of Borg transported aboard the ship, but were quickly contained on deck six, subsection twelve.

At this time, the Borg Sphere was lured into the randomly fired torpedo, causing the sphere to strike it, resulting in a noticeable explosion on the southern hemisphere of the vessel. CMDR Akaela ordered all weapons fired at the sphere, most of which struck it, and causing the sphere to seemingly detonate. It is suspected that the sphere triggered an auto destruct sequence. Recently restored sensors were able to detect a tight beam transmission that was sent from the sphere prior to its destruction.

Upon returning to Midway LCDR zh’Vhenda advised that the station’s research had been compromised, and that all records had been copied and downloaded by Borg drones that had previously boarded the station. The drones that had boarded the ship, due to their control node of the Sphere being destroyed, were able to be transported off of the Midway and into space. Midway was ordered to return to DS13 for emergency repairs at this time.

Damage: Weapons on backup power. Sensors damaged. Hull damaged in various places. Various hull breaches.

Casualties: Ten Fatalities, Twenty Two Injured to include Captain and Operations Officer

RECOMMENDATION Follow up must be performed to determine the destination of the transmitted signal (Towards Romulan Space). Project listings at the Research Station Kappa Epsilon must be reviewed to determine the Borg’s target. Midway requires immediate repairs.

RECOGNITION CMDR Akaela for her deft handling of weapons systems and attack patterns. LCDR Flynn for his fast engineering diagnostic skills and calmness under pressure. LCDR Wescott for her immediate and expert treatment of wounded bridge crew. LCDR zh’Vhenda for her bravery on leading an away team to rescue the station’s remaining researchers. LT Drush for her handling of operations for the first time in a crisis.
