NARRATIVE Following Reyga’s mission to the derelict station, the Captain tasked the engineering and science departments with investigating the planetside companion of the crystal found on the station. The goal of this investigation was to ascertain if the crystal could be used to safely transport the insects to another location.
Teams from Reyga established a base camp on the surface and started to collect data. A control site was selected and used as a baseline for scans of the floura, fauna, and soil of the crystal site. The scans revealed the following:
- Life near the crystal showed signs of evolutionary adaptations to the crystals energy. This was confirmed with genetic scans.
- The surface near the crystal contains alloy samples that match those taken on the station.
Together, these two data points suggest the site was once improved, likely enclosed and protected, and that the crystal has been present for a substantial period. A rough estimate places the site at 100,000 years old based off data from the station.
At this point, focus shifted to the crystal itself. It was here that the first signs of life were observed. The crystal emits radiation, as documented by previous missions. Ensign Sadaann sent a low energy pulse of the same frequency, which was returned by the crystal. The next pulse we sent was at the first harmonic to the base, to which the crystal returned the second harmonic.
A second form of communication was attempted with prime numbers. Three separate sequences were sent at the base frequency. One with two pulses, one with five, and one with seven. The crystal continued the prime sequence, sending seven, 11, and 13 pulses in return.
I deemed this sufficient evidence to shift the mission focus to potential first contact. It was at this point the crystal seemed to be displaying some unknown symbols along with some known scientific and mathematic formulae. Teams are working to establish a common language, but additional data from another site is likely necessary.
RECOMMENDATION Implement first contact protocols. Identify and locate a site to establish a basic language. The station is a prime candidate.
RECOGNITION Ensign Sadaann’s performance was agreeable.
OOC More Kelt stuff. Thanks Sam!
